Silence, minus the occasional rustle of the leaves at the slight provocation from the wind. Diana closed her eyes as the Alpine wind picked up her raven hair and let it play in the air. She opened her eyes with the release of a silent breath, pulling the string of her bow, having the end of the arrow kissing her lip on the string before she let it fly into the air. A few seconds later a thud could be hear in the silence as a bird of prey descended from the heavens, killed by an arrow from a goddess.
Diana placed the bow around her as she made her way towards her prize. Walking in silence she couldn't help but feel relaxed. This was her escape. It was a bit awkward without her hunters, she always felt like she would have to turn around to make sure they were all okay. But no, they were in America, not Europe, especially not in the Alps. No, Diana was here alone. She needed to try to relax, get her thoughts in order. With the war on the verge of beginning she was starting to feel anxiety with the memories of the last war still far too recent. The faces of the dead hunters staring blankly up towards the heavens, holding their wounds. The screams they let loose as their immortality left them while they defended the homage to the gods.
Why did Saturn have to come back? Every time someone was foolish enough to let him loose again death and destruction joined him, hand in hand. You couldn't have one without the other and to all those naive children who believed it was possible Diana want to shoot them point blank. Where did they conceive that foolish notion? Did they not recall that Saturn ate his children? No, instead they let the gods petty personalities get to them and decide to take teenage retaliation to a whole new extreme. Foolish demigods and mortals. Foolish gods for acting like they owned the place and could do whatever they bloody well pleased.
She approached the lifeless bird and stared at it for a few solid moments. How many hunters were going to be like that bird within the coming months? Dead, lifeless with their wound still fresh. Another soft thud could be heard in the silence of the forest as Diana dropped to her knees, feeling the warmth of the saltwater falling from her eyes as she started crying softly. It was a good thing she was alone, she normally didn't let the facade of a strong goddess ever falter. But all the faces of her hunters who had fallen came to her head. Zoe Nigthshade, gods, if there ever was a better hunter. She had died in the events of the last war. Bianca DeAngelo, a recent recruit had died during a quest leading up to the war. Many more. Diana remembered all their names and faces. It was getting to be too much as she began to thing about the hunters she had know, wondering how many weren't going to be with her next year due to this war. The silent cry had now become audible as Diana let her raw emotion come out into the silence of the forest.
