Remus had to smile; just seeing her period was something worth smiling about. Alive and well and with any luck, soon happy too. Because he would do anything in his power to make her smile. She could light up a room with that beautiful smile of hers. But when she started talking, his smile dipped. Her voice was shaking. Yet he had to give her kudos for her ability to not look away. He would give her the same respect. He could tell this was something that had been bothering her for some time now, though no telling how long exactly. At least she was being open about it now. Hiding it was never any good; it would only hurt her worse. So he felt honored that she trusted him with this.
So he paid close attention to her every word and kept his eyes locked on hers, despite how badly he wanted to just hold her close. Gods, how he wanted to hold her. Keep her safe. Do whatever it took to make her smile again. Finally, she looked away, but only with words that pierced his heart. He couldn’t allow this to happen. Anything that would hurt her so badly. He resolved himself. For her he would fight tooth and nail to survive. Just so she wouldn’t feel she needed to end herself. Even pushing up daises in the underworld, he could never forgive himself if she died because of him. He pulled her into a close embrace and stroked her hair.
“Felicity… my dearest Felicity. I promise I won’t let the Fates take me without a fight. I’ll do everything in my power to stop them, to end this war alive. And so should you. Because I need you. You’re my reason to be. You always have been and always will be. Just please, promise me you’ll try to live. I love you. I’ll always love you.” He kissed her cheek and just held her close. He felt defenseless right now, but he didn’t mind as long as she was the only one who saw. She knew him better than anyone. She really was his everything. And he… he was scared too. Scared to lose her. War was horrible and he’d nearly lost her so many times already. As he held her, he sent up a silent prayer to his father to protect her in the battle, to her father to not reclaim her soul any time soon. He needed her. Without her, he was nothing. She really was his life. Before meeting her, he had been a horrible person and he knew it. Cruel, calculating, heartless, emotionless. Now he had a hope for himself. No, for themselves. Together.
