The moment he pronounced the number three, Josh felt the usual pull in his stomach. It was a horrible feeling if you weren't used to it, to Josh it was something normal, but not really comfortable with it. The worst part in his case wasn't that weird feeling in his stomach, but the pressure that each of the teleportations gave to his head. Short ones only gave him some headaches, but when he tried to teleport through long distances, his head felt as if it was about to get split with a burning red sword. and sometimes the effort and pressure was so much that he fainted the moment he landed.
Which was almost what happened the moment they landed in England. They landed by the shore of a small river, in a spot among some trees, so no one saw them just popping into that place. Josh still held Lyn and Ethan's hands when they finally teleported, but his eyes were clenched and he had a deep frown on his face. The pain of that migrain was killing him, the sounds around him were like half muted and at the same time the high pitched ones were increased by a thousand.
"I'm going to faint..." He thought but remembered his brother and little Lyn, he needed to be strong for them. He forced himself to open his eyes and was glad that they were among those trees and light couldn't hit them directly. "how are you guys? Ethan, Lyn?" he asked with a huge effort to keep his ideas in order while his head threatened to explode at anysecond.
Teleporting was fun. Teleporting with other people was a little less fun, but still fun. Though teleporting with another person taking some of the load helped a lot. Though he’d never been this far. New York with Jason had been his limit on distance, and that had still been a real workout. Teleporting all that far usually made him faint, and sometimes pass out. The first time he’d ever teleported, he had been out cold for two days. That was fun. No, not really. At all. Which was likely what would have happened if Josh hadn’t been helping. Which would have left Lyn on her own til he woke up. Not good.
However, it was still fun when they landed. He immediately let go of Lyn’s hand, stumbled a few feet, then promptly threw up at the base of a tree. Welcome to England! After he was deon losing his breakfast, he wiped his mouth with a leaf and went back to the others. “Well, that was pleasant. How you two holding up?” He grinned at Josh, even though he felt ready to throw up again. This was a quest, not a lose your lunch party. He had to show some seriousness. “I’m good. Never better. Wait a second.” He went back to his newly claimed tree and threw up again before returning, feeling a ton better. “Okay, now I’m good.” He was worried about Lyn though. Being a passenger couldn’t be much easier.
It was going to be the first time she tried this teleportation thing. She had shadow traveled with Felicity and Gunnar before, but that was something different, and a little scary. Less with Gunnar, because she trusted him, even if he was not in such good shape after the fact. He had passed out on the tile floor. This was different though, not the dark shadow travel thing, but something with the Mercury traveling. She had met him a few times, one of which he stole all the sandwiches she had made Ed. Though he also produced a big meal of other things right after, so maybe it was more like a trade Lyndis had no say in.
Gripping the boys hands tightly she waited for that tell tale number letting her know they would be going somewhere. In the midst of it she felt an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach, as if she had gotten punched hard in the gut. Pain and churning sickness flooded her small body, and her sight went dizzy. The scenery was still green, and Lyndis couldn't tell if they had left or arrived or what was happening at the moment, tears stained her eyes as she fell down to her knees. One of her hands was released, and she placed it on the ground to steady herself as the heaved into the grass.
After a good amount of her food that day sat on the ground, and her stomach ached from the sudden spasms, Lyndis picked her head up. Her throat burned, and she felt like she hardly had the strength to stand. Teleportation was not fun. That was for certain. She didn't know if it was distance, or anything else, but this was not fun. Her free hand came across her mouth, then wiped any reminisce back onto the cleanest part of the near by grass. Looking around she blinked back tears, taking deep breaths to try and steady her breathing again. "I didn't like that.” now that she could take a small look around, there was a small river and trees near by. It looked like they were in a little nature like area but there was still city stuff not far away. "Can I go clean up a little in the river?” She was feeling better, but the pain and throbbing in her stomach was slowly creeping up on her again. She'd have to force it to stop. Which was not the easiest thing to ask a ten year old to do.
Josh felt hos Ethan let his hand go and couldn't see where he went, but he clearly heard what he did. Well that was something normal, most people felt a very upset stomach after teleporting, there were some weird cases where the teleported felt different like Zidane that his legs failed right after landing or himself that his head felt as if a galaxy was going to explode inside it.
Then it was Lyn who also threw up. Josh let her hand go so she could feel a bit free and some space to finish with her stomach's business. He looked at Ethan when he came back as he rubbed Lyn's back. "easy Lyn... just let it finish..." He smiled at Ethan as he went to throw up again. Lyn asked for permission to go by the river. "you can do it Lyn, just be careful..." He said and sat on the ground grabbing his head with a hand, trying to get a hold of himself. "Ethan..." he said and forced himself to open his eyes again. "ask Lyn if she needs some of your Pepto..."
He breathed deeply and then grabbed his bag and opened it, he remembered that Rhia had told him that she was giving him a rune for when he landed in England and other for when he landed back at camp. He grabbed his head with both hands and had to breath deeply to get some fresh air and keep himself awake. He opened his eyes again and finally found it. He didn't remember well how to use them, but the few he could remember he did it and it worked! Minutes later he breathed in deeply and realized he had no headache, he felt fine in fact.
"ok, Ethan, Lyn how do you feel now? do you need some time to feel better? maybe if we wait here 10 minutes..." he said walking closer to Lyn to check if she was ok.
When he came back the first time around, he had to admit he felt really bad for Lyn. Guess that answered his question on how she was doing. And that answer would be ‘really kind of sucky’. Poor kid. Throwing up like that was no fun. Speaking of which. He returned to finish his own stomach issues. Well, this quest was certainly starting out nicely, now wasn’t it? People throwing up or, as he found out/assumed when he got back the second time, getting pounding migraines. He certainly hoped the other team was fairing better. Speaking of which, he couldn’t help but wonder where they were. Ah well, they would learn soon enough. At the cathedral, which he still wasn’t sure was the best idea but for landmarks it did work.
He nodded at his brother’s idea. “Yeah, will do. You sure you don’t need something? I have some Advil too…” Why did the quest have to be so far away anyway? Why not like the boardwalk in San Francisco? Or even just, um, Iowa? Somewhere closer than England. Which was a lot of places. Then again, there were worse places they could have been sent, right? Like Antarctica. That was a huge no in his book. Penguins were cute and all but Ethan and the cold got along about as well as an ice cube and a microwave.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Why was his brain so distractable? Well, besides the adhd. Anyway. He walked over to check on Lyn. “Heya, Lyn-a-bin? I got some Pepto to help your stomach if you want it. Or just about every other medicine under the sun too. Jason was sort of particular about packing my med bag.”
It was good the stream wasn't far away, because walking when your stomach was already upset was not the best thing ever. Dropping he backpack lightly on the ground near the river the small child of Fortuna knelt down putting her face into the gently flowing stream. It was cool and refreshing, and this entire beginning of a trip made her absolutely ecstatic about the fact she tied her hair back before leaving. The feeling of cool hands on her face startled her up and out of the water. Blinking through the water dripping off her eyelashes she spotted a water nymph floating below the surface with a smile on her face, before waving and swimming off. Lyndis smiled and raised her hand to wave back, they always seemed so nice. She didn't remember seeing them around much before she went to Camp Jupiter. Her face certainly felt a lot cleaner though, and in general she felt better. Probably the cool water, or maybe the water nymph who happened to be passing by.
One of her traveling companion came over, and with quite the interesting nick name. A smile flung itself across her face as she gave a small giggle at the name. "I'm good." Taking the top of her Disney t-shirt in her hands she tugged it up to her forehead and started rubbing her wet little face in the soft dry cloth. Pulling it back down over her face she let it settle, slightly wrinkled and damp, back into place. "Are you okay? Teleporting is not as fun as I thought it was going to be." she said as her normally chipper face scrunched into a kind of disgusted frown. She wrinkled her nose at the memory of something that happened only moment ago.
"Oh Jason packed your bag? He's a good doctor, he stitched up my leg twice! The second time was because I didn't listen to what he said and the first one didn't stay. I do what he says now." Looking up at Josh with her back to normal excited and twinkling brown eyes she nodded. "I'm fine! I wanna go find Ed!" leaning back on her heels she stood, pulling her back onto her back at the same time. "What's a 'cat the drill' look like? You said we'll notice it easily, is it big? Does it have shiny window things? Is it really different from all those tall square buildings with shiny windows? Is it cat shaped? Like a giant cat building? You said it had ornaments on it? Like bells?"
Josh finally breathed in deeply and felt that the remains of his migraine had left his head. So he was ready to continue on that quest. "I'll have to thank Rhia when we come back..." He said smiling, but then his smile just faded away, he remembered what he was doing, he was working on both sides, he just broke an oath made on the styx! Rhia would hate him the moment she realized about it.
He was thinking on that when he listened Lyn's voice. He looked at them and smiled at Lyn, in a way her neverending good mood always lifted his. She wanted to go and find Ed, well... Josh only wished that Felicity and Ed were fine and already getting to the Cathedral. He walked closer to where Lyn and Ethan were, it seemed that his brother was much better and Lyn even when she looked a bit paler than usual, she was fine. "Well, I'm proud om my side of the team... you're getting over the teleportation second effects in a pretty fast and good way!"
Then he looked at Lyn and his brows knitted as he also twistedly smiled and then shook his head slowly. "It won't look like a cat, unfortunately, but it will be a tall building, not squared at all..." he said and tried to remember the old picture he saw in the old files and books. "It has some towers with pointy ends on the top, and crossed on them." he smiled and then looked around and took a small map from his bag. "ok... we should check the streets and get to the cathedral, and if an adult asks why we're without adults, then well tell that we're siblings and that our parents are in the Cathedral, that you Lyn wanted an ice cream, ok?"
Good. Good was good. Yes, good was alright with Ethan. He eased a little, glad Lyn was going to be ok. He shouldered his back again and smiled at her. “Well, at least the medical part. I packed the normal stuff. Oh, but the mickey mouse bandaids were my idea.” He grinned. He had a feeling most people wouldn’t be fond of Mickey Mouse bandaids, but they could live with it. Mickey was awesome. “Though yeah, he really knows what he’s talking about.”
He listened as she talked about the ‘cat a drill’. He had to admit, it took him a minute to figure out what she was talking about. Right, the cathedral. He grinned at Josh. “We got the best team right here if you ask me.” Right, back to answering the question at hand. He was so scatterbrained sometimes it was horrible. But thankfully Josh got to it before him. Because he wasn’t really sure how to describe a cathedral. Especially not one he’d never seen before. Big with colorful windows was about as far as his descriptive skills went here. So let Josh take it away! Sounded perfect. He straightened his bag on his back and listened in.
And it sounded good to him. He was also rather glad that Josh had a map. After all, at least that he was aware of, none of them were all that familiar with. Where he’s gotten it though, he wasn’t sure. Ah well. Let that question go unanswered. The important thing was that they were prepared. Or rather he was. Or rather they weren’t going to get lost. Then again, as there were two sons of Mercury here, he had to wonder if it would be hard to get lost. Wasn’t Mercury supposed to have a really good sense of direction? He’d have to test that sometime. When they all got back from this adventure. When. Not if. “Sounds like a plan. And side note, if we did have to get ice cream for this plan to work, you would not catch me complaining.”
Her smile grew and her eye sparked at the mention of mickey mouse. She had only ever seen him once, and that was when she went to Disneyworld with Gunnar and Felicity. That was lots of fun, even if they only got to go on a scary ride before some things attacked them. She thought about that a moment. They had been attacked, even with Lyndis in their little party. What if Edmund and Felicity were attacked? She wasn't there to help them, she wasn't their lucky charm right now. Last time Felicity had gone a different direction while Gunnar took the lucky Lyndis charm back to camp. Felicity had been fine when she got back, and she even lead the monsters away from people so they wouldn't be hurt. She was a good person. That Lyndis was sure of, no matter what other people said. Felicity was a good person who was just a little emotional right now. That was what her dad said when people were mean when she knew they were nice. "I have a Mickey Mouse hat with my name on it! Gunnar gave it to me! And my shirt!" she said holding out her shirt for them to see the Lilo and Stitch picture on the front.
"We can't be the best team without Ed." she said pouting a bit. It was rather obvious who in this party she cared about the most. The though of Edmund brought up ideas about how to make the best team ever, and that brought up the people in camp she had made a family from. Her camp family, then her real family. The hunting parties they made. It was never all the same type of people, a hunting party needed individuals with specialties in this or that. She never really understood, but she knew a good party could not be made up of only one type of person. Not all sneaks, or all front line attackers. Going over the small list she spotted a Metallurgy person, word she learned from Remus, two light footed hiding people, a lucky charm, and Felicity she couldn't quite place. Perhaps the power person? The fighter? She wasn't sure. She saw Felicity fight before, but no one else. She was a good fighter. Ethan had medical stuff, so maybe he could be the medic? She knew a little slow remedy stuff, and how to bandage people up, but that was about it. Opting to work on her fighting, she spent the last week with Charlie and not Jason.
Lie? Why should they lie? They were on a quest. Josh and Ethan were old enough to be out on their own, it was just Lyndis that needed an older person right? She looked at them inquisitively, but decided to do as she was told. It wasn't important right now, but it seemed like everyone wanted to lie to people about what they were doing. She could remember Felicity saying something about it before too. "I have to pretend to like ice cream?"

Josh examined the map and looked around. It was true that all Mercury children had excellent sense of direction, yet Josh wanted to be sure, for some weird reason he didn't know if he could fully trust himself. Maybe it was because when he went out on those crazy and idiotic personal missions, no one was under his commands, no one could end up injured because of him, no one but himself. Now it was different, if he walked into the wrong alley, it wasn't going to be his neck the one which was going to be slashed, but it could be anyone in the team, his brother, little Lyn, Felicity or the grumphy Edmund. He would never forgive himself if something like that happened to any of them.
He was also listening to Lyn and Ethan and half smiled when they talked about Mickey Mouse and stuff with his face on it. He had been once to Disneyland, he took his brother Rickard there for his 12th birthday, they were there only for an hour more or less, then he brought him back to camp. But he understood Lyn's excitement. Then he looked at her when she told him that there was no team without Edmund. Josh sighed and nodded. "don't worry Lyn, if Felicity followed the commands, they should be close to the Cathedral by now, so we need to hurry"
Josh almost laughed out loud when he saw how excited Ethan was about ice cream but lyn wasn't. It was weird that a girl didn't like it, but he thought that it made Lyn more interesting, she wasn't the typical kind of girl and that was always nice... like his Rhia, she was unique! "No Lyn you don't have to pretend that, maybe we could buy some Ice cream to Ethan and maybe a pie to you Lyn." He smiled and put the map back into his bag and hung it from his shoulder in a crossed way.
"Ok, then we need to go in South-West direction..." he said looking at them and waiting for them to start their way to the Cathedral, he was hoping that Felicity and Edmund were there, so as that no creature smelled them so soon.
Lyn was officially in Ethan’s cool people book for having a Mickey Mouse hat with her name on it. He beamed at her. “Seriously? That’s awesome! And love the shirt. Stitch is a personal hero of mine.” He did his best not that great impersonation of Stitch’s laugh, which may or may not have sounded slightly maniacal but wasn’t that sort of the point? Anyway. Oh, oops, he’d said the wrong thing, judging from her pout. “Alright, how about we find the other two and become the best super mega awesome team ever that this or any quest has ever seen! Da Da-da daaaa!” Yes, striking a Superman pose was necessary, so naturally he did.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA. Lyn didn’t like ice cream? Ethan had to wonder for a moment what was wrong? Maybe she was sick. That had to be it. He would just go with that explanation. Because ice cream was probably the best thing since, well, ice cream. Or pie, yes, pie was good. So he just nodded along when Josh mentioned pie for Lyn. “I don’t need ice cream. I’m just being a pain. One of my many skills, you’ll find.” He made a joking low bow. “But let’s not waste money. We only have so much and you never know what we might end up needing down the road.” Dang, he was on a roll with smart (considering it was Ethan at least) things to say today. He was rather proud of himself. Maybe this quest wouldn’t go as badly as he’d feared after all. That would be nice. He had sort of feared that the gods were making a huge mistake picking him.
At Josh’s suggestion, he turned to what he was pretty sure was southwest. And given the whole Mercury directions thing, he had a decent chance of being right, right? “Onward!” With an unnecessary almost marching band sort of look, he set off for a few feet before breaking back into a regular walk, grinning back at both of them.
Throwing her hands in the air, she showed her excitement with Ethan. Then jumped next to him copying his hands on hips motion, looking proud and determined for a moment before smiling up at him. "Yep then we can be the best team ever!" the small girl threw her little fist in the air "And have the best adventure ever!" because that's what this was to her, a simple little adventure where they would have fun and possibly fight monster. She hoped they would fight monsters, what kind of adventure didn't have a little bit of danger spliced in?
Nodding along with Ethan, the petite child of luck looked up at her team mates. "We can celebrate with pie and ice cream and cookies when we're all done! Maybe go to Disneyworld!" celebration from a successful outing was necessary. They just had to have a party, more than just the annoying sweet things. Have fruit and stuff there too. Yes, fruit was delicious. "Let's go let's go! We can find Ed, and Felicity, then be off finding this thingy and then celebrate sooner! Though I'd like to stay outside camp for a little while and look at stuff."
Where was the sun in the sky? Was it morning or afternoon? The small girl who had grown up learning how to tell direction from nature couldn't be exactly sure. They had just teleported and while stars are wonderful for telling direction, the day time star was a little more picky. Normally it was just, sun raises in the east, it's morning, where the sun is is east. However she also knew the time changed. That was only because of her plane flight to California. She talked to the person next to her a lot and found out a lot of things until they went to sleep. For now she was going to be lost, unsure of what direction they were going or coming from. Josh and Ethan looked like they had a handle of which way they were going, so she was just going to follow them. She would have done that anyway, but been happier knowing she wasn't lost herself.
It was funny and weird to see how Ethan was acting. he reminded of himself, in fact they were the same age. Both of them were joyful, always trying to put a smile on the face of others, joking about almost anything. But the recent events, the things that Josh knew for sure, the powerful ones that he had seen and met, had changed him a bit or a lot.
He was still the guy who smiled at all times, the one who joked, the one who went into secret places and stole precious things only because... But also deeply inside, he was more serious, he tried to think more before acting, he was trying to keep everyone safe and sound, not only in the quest but also back at camp.
but when he saw Ethan smiling and making funny noises, he knew that all what he was doing was fine, no matter what happened to him, after he died and no one remembered him, Ethan would still be there, so as Lyn and the others back at home... Home... he sighed when he thought of the place he called home, there was Rhia... the only one who could make him sigh like that.
"ok... ok... then we will celebrate with a huge pie, icecream, cookies... I've heard your cookies are declisious Lyn." he said smiling widely at them. They didn't need to know the darkness that was swallowing his soul.
"the stance of superhero would need to be practiced... or maybe it is only that Felicity, Ed and myself are missing in that picture..." he laughed and continued walking. South-west wasn't that difficult to find, or sense, it was easy for him and also for Ethan, he saw how easy he just turned o the correct side, but Lyn...
"Lyn, just stay near us, and you will be fine" but then he remembered about Lyn's mother and he smiled a bit more, maybe a smal hint of hope was lurking in the corner of his twisted smile. "or maybe we should stay near you, like keeping a lucky charm." he winked at her.
They continued walking, the day was bright, or as bright as it could be in England, the sky was kind of grayish, maybe it was going to rain. It wouldn't be weird in that place. but the trees were green and the smell in the air was the smell of wet earth, something that in a way was pleasent. "the Cathedral is only 10 minutes walking from here, so we'll be there soon."

Ethan was beyond happy when Lyn decided to take after his silly posing and attitude. He couldn’t often say that he was much of a role model. Usually the model for what not to do. So he had to smile. It was a nice change. For once he didn’t feel like the camp idiot. At least in this little kid’s eyes, he was something cool. “You bet we can! And you bet we will!” It was settled. He was going to make Lyn his new unofficial little sister. She was too cute and fun to be around. He grinned at her, then at Josh as well. “Pie, ice cream, cookies, and Disneyworld. Dang, Lyn, I like the way you think. Brilliant.” He ruffled her hair affectionately and smiled. Yes, this was going to be a fun trip alright. Maybe a little dangerous and ominous, yeah, but with good people. Ed was questionable, but Felicity he got along with and Josh was his awesome brother and Lyn was just cute as a button. All in all, a good group to get stuck on an adventure with.
“Yeah, come on, you need to try it to. It helps if you imagine yourself with a cape flapping behind you and possibly people cheering. You should try it sometime. Though getting Ed to do it, wow, we might have to drug him to get him to do that one. Wonder how he is with caffeine and sugar…” A smirk crossed his face that indicated he was plotting. A normal expression for the legacy of Mercury. He smiled at Lyn when Josh told her to just stay near them. “Yup, we got your back. We shall defend you, fair princess, as your noble knights. Or jesters is probably a better term.” He grinned at Josh. “Good point. So it works both ways then really.”
He nodded. Ten minutes, sounds good. Just enough time for some inspirational music.” He cleared his throat. “I have often dreamed of a far off place where a great, warm welcome will be waiting for me!” he sang, continuing on with the lyrics to “Go The Distance” from Disney’s Hercules, one of his personal favorites.
Though it struck him as he sung why he loved that movie. A little nobody making something for himself. That was sort of how Ethan felt a lot of the time. He’d grown up in Jason’s shadow, often not wanted around except for Jason’s insistence. But maybe this quest would change things around. Yes, he was on his way. And he could go the distance. Or die trying.
A giggle escaped her as Ethan ruffled her hair, sure she had actually managed to brush it and tie it back for once, but she liked it. Her head wobbled slightly with him, even if he didn't put much pressure on it to push it side to side. She wrapped her arms around his midsection pulling him into a hug. "Thank you." releasing him she trotted around them, not really one to sit still while she was excited, especially after they just got her more hyper with talk of hero's and parties, and hero parties. Looking up at Josh she tilted her head to the side. "Do you want a hug too?" he sighed, and didn't look too excited. That was normally a sign people wanted hugs right? Little Lyndis hugged everyone, even Prometheus let the little puffy headed girl hug him as a greeting. Who could resist her hugs after all? For long anyway. Edmund tried, really tried to not accept her hugs. That probably didn't turn out how he planned, especially with this child calling him big brother whenever she could. It was special, no one else called him that.
"We can get Ed to do it! Maybe not with sugar, I don't think he likes sweet things. Like me!" she said that with a smile. There was so few things she and Edmund had in common, so she really treasured the things that were similar. Even if he didn't believe her that the pies and cookies she made weren't sweet like other things. Her grin widened at the mention of being the lucky charm of the party, her little fist pounded on her chest. "Best luck charm ever! Mr. Remus told me so!" she smiled proudly, Edmund and Felicity were just being silly, telling her she wasn't a good luck charm. She could only hope she wasn't so lucky that she deprived the party of an adventure. She believed, and trusted, nothing bad would happen to the party as long as she was there. If anything bad happened, she obviously wasn't doing the job she had been put there for.
Trotting after them, her energy was able to let her short little legs keep up with theirs. Looking up at them, Josh had about two feet on her while Ethan might be a foot and a half taller. She wasn't great at it, but she had learned how to tell distance a little. It was necessary when firing arrows after all. Ten minutes of walking? That shouldn't even be much more than a full kilometer. She trotted to keep up with the boys, though trotting was her preferred way of moving anyway. Even with the backpack full of essentials, which reminded her. She should probably drink from water after being sick like that. Reaching her arm around to her bag she kept walking, not looking in front of her really and just following behind Josh, she reached for what should have been the water bottle on top. Reusable of course, but instead found something fluffy. Pulling it all the way out she saw it was a teddy bear. She knew everything that went in that bag, checked, double checked, triple checked, the whole nine yards. This was not on her list. She stared at it a moment, still following along without looking where she was going. Then looked up at the boys. "I don't remember packing this."
