It was one of the worst kept secrets ever. But gods was it so much fun. The roman version of Fight Club. Of course it was something that was more along the lines of a one on one melee exercise without weapons or gifts. It did mean that Levi was on equal footing as the rest of his companions who decided to pay the 25 denarii to enter into these brutal training sessions. When your sword broke and your shield was too battered to hold against another blow, you always had your fists. Levi knew how much ‘brawling’ if you would, was something that could really save your life one day. It had done so on more than one occasion for him. Few people could really stand against a bare knuckles boxing match. It was brutal and it hurt him viciously more than once. But he had been training like this since he was little. With his two best friends, Jukka and Jussi, this was how he worked out his anger and aggression. He had broken his fists a few days ago, but now he was ready to take on his challenges for this night time melee match.
He grabbed his roll of athletic tape and a flask of ambrosia. That was a must to have at these sorts of things. On second thought, Levi grabbed a few bandages that he had made himself. He wasn’t as good as his buddy Jason, that kid was going places with his medical skill, but they were much better than his Wal-Mart brand counterpart. These had been soaked in an herbal solution that was good with helping clean and aiding in the healing of deep wounds and cuts. He was supposed to meet up with his buddies before going to this little bit of training fun. Sure the praetors weren’t supposed to know about the little get together that happened nearly every Friday weekend. Zidane was a cool guy and Levi had a feeling he would do great in this week’s pot. Of course he was the undefeated champ the past five weeks, so both Zidane and V would have their work cut out for them. Levi could only wonder how Vivian would do. There was maybe one daughter of Mars or two, but there wasn’t enough to post separate listings. But Levi had no trouble in believing that Vivian could hold her own in a fight. Zidane would really impress him. Levi stopped thinking before shoving the stuff in a gym bag before walking out of the barracks.
The sun was dipping low in the sky; Levi made his way to the forest. Above the tree line he could see a stream of smoke. Levi grinned. That was the bonfire. He stepped over the brush and fallen logs before moving his way through the underbrush. Already there were many people crowding around the large bonfire. Levi waved at a few people, a son of Vulcan who had mustered out just last year and then once to a friend of his who was a Son of Mars. Most of the Mars veterans and campers were extremely put out that a son of Venus was on the top tier of the match ups. Of course there was a reason behind it, but nothing would stop him from doing his best at fighting. IT was strange for a son of Venus to do so well. But of course he wasn’t exactly a normal son of Venus to say the least. Levi went ahead and signed in, putting the money for his friends to participate, or at least they acted like they wanted to. Well for now it was either fight in the match ups or wimp out.
