Josh has been away for a few hours already, checking around while Felicity and Ethan went to talk to someone, he trusted his brother enough to know that he would tell him if Felicity contacted Saturn, besides he didn't think Felicity called the Titan if Ethan was close, Felicity might had gone nuts lately, but she wasn't that stupid! so when they asked him to continue guarding she just woke up and sat on his post to take care of Ed and Lyn. but when the first signs of a new day were showing up, he knew that he would have to start the fire to cook breakfast.
So as he was starting the fire, he mentaly made a note to thank Ethan and even Felicity for waking him up. As every night since he broke that oath, he had the same kind of horrible nightmare, for sure it was sent to him as a warning of what he would be facing when he finally had to meet his destiny. He hated those nightmares and usually he was a lightsleeper, he would wake up easily, but that nightmare was different, he could never wake up on his own from it. So when Ethan called him, he wasn't mad at his brother but thankful, but he didn't tell him about his curse, just nodded at his request.
He was thinking of that as he looked at the Fire getting stronger and he smiled thanking goddess Vesta for that beautiful and comforting fire. Then he went to the food bag to get some eggs and bacon, that is when he saw Ethan and Felicity coming back from wherever they had been.
Teleporting the first time was not the best experience in Felicitys life and dong it a second time did not by any means hope to improve the experience. Luckily her stomach had already been emptied from her dinner due to her first teleportation, now she was left to dry heave for a few moments, which was not a better experience. Never ever again. At least this torture lead to a benefit for her, namely, finding out that Remus wasn't dead. No, he just found himself close enough to it that caused Felicitys daughter of pluto ringing in the ears to begin. While it relieved the brunette in knowing that the love of her life wasn't dead, she still couldn't hide the anger growing inside her for whoever the heck it was who dared to lay a finger on the son of mars. Now, Felicity didn't know the camper, but she knew who lead the camper to doing that. Her beloved grandpa who said that he would make sure Remus was safe.
Felicity thought hard as she made her way back to the campsite. What were Saturns exact words? Probably something about him not laying a hand on Remus, which he technically kept, but still. If that stupid Titan expected her help now, well he was out of luck. Not saying that Felicity had turned pro-God overnight, no, she was never on anyones side but her own. She wanted the best for her and the people she cared about it, namely Remus. Siding with the Titan did not benefit him at all. She took a deep breath of the morning air and the hint of smoke filled her nostrils. Josh had to have still been up and was probably cooking. Felicity grimaced, the thought of food was not appetizing at the moment but the thought of a warm fire was.
As Ethan went about his own business upon their return Felicity made her way towards Josh. She stood to the side of him, staring at the fire. "I wanted to um... thank you for taking Ethans post so suddenly like that..." Felicity said as she did an awkward fidget. She hadn't exactly been nice to anyone lately plus Josh and her had an awkward enough history. Still, she needed to thank him, she just couldn't bring herself to look at him when she did. There was a lot of things in the air between them. Felicity needed to tell Josh about her plans for Saturn, which was going to be risky enough if she remembered his siding right, and she also wanted to ask him about those bags under his eyes that had been gradually forming. He was suppose to be leading the quest team but they couldn't perform well with a sleep deprived leader, she wanted to find out exactly what was keeping him from sleeping soundly.
The bacon was already on the hot pan, frying in its own greasy fat, with that distinguished sound of it and the smell that floated in the air, when Felicity came closer. But Josh didn't even look at her, lately with all that barrier she put between people and herself, he didn't even try to talk to her anymore. He would try to protect her to help Remus, but nothing more. So when she stood next to him, he just kept looking at the bacon and trying to find a way to get rid of those nightmares that were draining his energy.
suddenly as if it was part of the dreamland that he left far behind when Ethan woke him up, he heard Felicity's voice talking to him. He looked at her with his brows knit, not really knowing if she was really speaking to him or not. but when he saw she wasn't looking at him and that she talked about him taking ethan's post, he knew she was really talkiing to him, so he decided to reply to her shy words. "no need to thank me Felicity, if Ethan and you needed to go so early and secretly, it must have been something important." he then looked back at the fire and the food.
"did you fix whatever you needed to fix? or to do?" He asked and then looked at her again, he still worried about her even when he didn't want to accept it. He didn't love her anymore, He loved Rhia, but Felicity was his first love and his female friend, after rhia.
At his question Felicity managed a nod but then she realized that she wasn't looking at him, what was the possibility that he was looking at her? She glanced at Josh only to be slightly stunned to see him looking at her. Yet, she tried to keep composure."Yeah, I had to check in on Remus.... I had come to fear the worst." Felicity said, trying to sound calm but the thought still scared her. Plus seeing the love of her life covered in bandages made her heart ache and the hate swirl in the bottom of her stomach. The scent of the bacon just made her feel sick. She pointed at her ears. "My death senses were ringing. I just knew it was associated with Remus. Turns out he got attacked at camp and it was pretty bad, but he's healing, and he's alive, thats what matters." Felicity finally explained.
She studied Josh a moment. "Josh..." Felicity started before taking a breath. This was going to be harder to say then she thought, especially to Josh, who was one of the people she pushed away the most, but he was probably the only one who could help her with her situation. Her plan to go against Saturn. She needed to tell someone, someone she could trust, which was oddly enough Josh, despite him apparently siding with Saturn. She kneeled down so that she was more on Joshs level and stared at him. Hoping that her eyes gave detail to just how fragile she was at the moment, to let him know that what she was about to say was not a joke but the genuine truth.
"I'm not giving him the relic. When we return to camp I want that relic given to the praetors and then I'm going to talk to my granpa and make sure I make my point clear when I tell him that our pact is over. And before you ask, yes, I am prepared for the worst. And I do know what the worst can hold." Felicity told Josh, careful not to mention Saturns name because you could never be too sure when the titan was overhearing and Felicity was not prepared to die before making her stand against him. She would do this not only for herself, but for the ones she hurt in her wrong choice, for the ones she pushed away, and for everyone else.
Years had passed since he met Felicity, it had been something good to meet such an amazing and strong girl. It had been a well, not common way to meet and to get to know someone, He should have been 13 years old when he decided to practice some of his thievery in camp, teleportation was still something that made him faint out of the migraines he got, so... something inside the camp should have been much better.
So he got into the fourth cohort and stole a lot of things from it, but when he saw what Felicity was keeping in a box, he saw it was a very personal thing and he tried to give it back, but well, the daughter of Pluto saw him and tortured him with her shadows, he deserved all what she did.
After all those years, Josh thought he knew Felicity, until her breakdown. When that happened all what he thought of her had to be put inside his mind and try to adapt to the new Felicity. well, Saturn rot everything he touched, maybe he finally rot Felicity's heart too. But now with her by his side, listening to her voice, he wanted to think that she was the same Felicity he met so many years ago, back in the fourth cohort.
He snorted when she said she was worried about Remus. "Remus is undefeatable... you know that..." But hate to shut up when she told him what had happened to Remus, she had just spoken to him, so that is why Ethan helped her, they went to find a rainbow! He breathed deeply and then smiled again at her, his better pokerface on. "See... no one can kill Remus, no one at camp at least, so don't worry!" but he was worried, he knew that Remus was in a lot of danger, on a hand he was Camp's leader, Jason was too, but Remus... well he was the perfect general they had. and on the other hand he knew about Saturn, he had told him everything he knew!
But his thoughts were interrupted once more by her voice. "yeah?" he replied and looked at her again, she was squatting next to him at that moment. He was smiling, but then he lost his poker face the moment she told him her new plans, and her voice and looks told him she was telling the truth, at least it was good to be a liar, he more or less knew when someone was lying to him.then he thought, what if she was, what if it was a test from Saturn? But at that point of his life... "are you insane?... he won't accept it too well, he will kill you Felicity..." He didn't act like a Titan's follower, he acted like her old friend.
Yeah, everyone thought Remus was some strong buff leader who seemed invincible. Keyword, seemed. Felicity knew everyone was capable of dying. Heck, she's brought up a few well known seeming invincible leaders from the grave for a short chat. No matter how good you were with a sword or with power, you were always given a date to die. Therefore all these words of "Oh, its Remus, he'll live" did not settle well with her because she feared the day when other people will realize that he was capable of dying.
She watched as Joshs poker face completely crumpled. She bit her lower lip nervously. Felicity was well aware of the cost of doing this, that it could mean her death and judgement day in the Underworld, which probably wasn't going to end well either. Yet, Felicity knew Josh could tell a lie therefore she wasn't going to throw her walls up around herself like she had been doing. Josh was one of her longest friends, he deserved to see Felicity as she was, not the guarded one she had shown everyone, except Remus, for the past few years.
Felicity took a deep breath as she eyed a strand of her hair in her face, she swiped it behind her ear and looked back at Josh. "I know this. But I have to do it. I helped bring about his return, it's only fitting if I help bring about his end. Even if it costs me my life. I'm not afraid of death, not if its for a good cause. Once Saturn knocks out my last breath of air, I won't die miserable. Like I said, I'm prepared for the worst. I hope he does kill me actually, it would probably be easier to deal with. That way I'll be judged fairly in the Underworld rather than face trial at camp for my actions."
She eyed the fire again. "I probably shouldn't have told you. You're going to go and tell him now, aren't you?" Sure, she probably should have had more confidence in Josh to not do that, after all, they were, or rather, had been friends, at least before Felicity put cement fifty foot tall walls between her and everyone. They even had the potential of becoming something more at one point in time, which Felicity admitted, probably could have ended a different way had it not been a complicated time, one she would rather not experience again. Josh had always been there for here, even though they met in a not so pleasant way. Felicity should have been able to trust him, which she obviously still did subconsciously, but she was worried about whether or not Josh would put his friends or his loyalty to Saturn first.
Josh moved and turned the bacon on the pan so it wouldn't get burnt. He tried to calm down himself, he knew Felicity wasn't the reckless one, well not always, but by her words he knew she had already decided to do what she had told him she would do. But he knew it was a stupid move! even more because of how she talked, she talked about dying as if it was something so easy, something that wouldn't hurt her and the ones that loved her.
"No... that isn't the hard stuff... hard is to face justice back in camp, hard is to look into the eyes of the ones you hurt and ask for their forgiveness... dying... dying is easy if you don't take into account that you'll hurt others and that you'll face tartarus when you get to the other side..."
He said both thinking on her and on himself, because that was going to happen to him the moment he died, he would go directly to tartarus, and Rhia would be left alone. He looked at Felicity and smiled at her in a gentle way. "you must live and fight Felicity..." his smile couldn't hide the worriment in his eyes, the dark bags under his eyes and the deep pain in his soul.
He laughed at her last question and shook his head eagerly. so he had been a good performer! she really thought he was a Saturn's minion!? Then he looked at her again and got closer so no one else could listen to what he was about to tell her. knowing that she could be the lier one, maybe she was better performer than he was, but he had already lost his soul, the only difference now was how soon or late he would face his destiny in Tartarus. "I won't tell him... I'm not really working for him..." He said and smiled at her with a rogue smile.
She scuffed at his words. Hurt others, by her death? Like who? Her dying would bring about a calming sense in a lot of people. Remus wouldn't have to try his girlfriend and decide whether death is suitable. The camp wouldn't have the face of a traitor staring back at them everyday, the face of someone who put their lives in danger for stupid selfish reasons. She was about to argue against him when he uttered that one sentence and she looked into his eyes.
The pain, the tired, the worry that were etched into the teenagers eyes made her stop her usually defensive argumentative attitude from rising. How old was Josh? A little older than Felicity. Just a teenager still. The lives they have each lived, full of pain and calluses everywhere, even emotional ones. It wasn't fair, but yet they kept living. Living to fight another day. But what good was this doing them? Must live and fight and fight and fight. Why couldn't they live to live? The look in Josh eyes made her heart hurt as she thought about all that. Before she knew it she had thrown her arms around him in a very quick hug, one that probably wasn't the most comfortable, before putting her arms across her own chest and looking at the ground. Even a hug would be enough to make Rhia hate her more, but it was a good moment for it, and Felicity felt like Josh needed a hug, probably a longer one but Felicity wasn't going to test her luck either. She was pretty sure Josh had some disdain for her like a majority of other people she use to be close to.
She shook her head. "Perhaps. But I'm always living to fight another day. Besides, even if I was to survive my encounter with Saturn, I still have to face trial at camp and just because I have a good relationship with a preator does not mean I won't face equal justice." Felicity said as she stared back into the fire. She didn't dare risk looking at Josh. Just like his eyes told a story of weary and pain, hers did too and she had never shared it. She was too afraid to open up that way, being vulnerable, by that seemed to be the only thing she has been since going on the quest.
Her eyes went wide at his statement. She looked straight at him with worry and shock. "You're not? But I thought...?" Felicity started, knitting her eyebrows. What exactly was Josh doing? Did he understand the risks? Was he really prepared to die for this? Rhia seemed so committed, so Felicity naturally assumed Josh was in the same boat. Felicity swallowed hard as she whispered, "Does he know?" Stupid question. If Saturn knew what guarantee would Josh have to still be breathing?

Josh looked at felicity after he spoke like that to her, he was really worried about her, he didn't want to think what Saturn could do to her when he found out that she had betrayed him, and in a way he knew that he was also scared because it would be his fate too, or would it be worse because he had fooled the father of titans and gods? While he was looking at her, she spoke again, she was so confident about it, she really thought it was better to spare Remus the pain of try her.
"I think Remus would rather have the opportunity to save you, than leaving you in HIS hands." talking about the titan. "besides... all of us will be in a trial after this... you, Rhia, the others, me... so don't worry, he won't have time to focus on you only" he winked but his eyes were worried, scared and tired. but then suddenly out of nowhere she just hugged him, it was a short tight hug, he opened widely his eyes and then looked at her when she pulled back. He smiled at her and hugged her back, tightly and for a bit longer than she did. "I missed you Felicity, you really are my friend and I would be one of the ones hurt if you got killed."
He pulled back and smiled at her, then shruged and looked back at the fire. "I'm very good at fooling others... I could even fool the big ancient guy..." smirks proudly of himself, but then sighed and frowned. "I needed to approach and get to know the plan... protect Rhia from him and herself... I also tried to protect you... but I'm playing a double spy here... to protect camp from HIM." He said in less than a whisper, he knew that maybe Vesta was listening to them, but she was with Olympus so he wasn't scared of her listening, maybe it would be better if she listened that Felicity wasn't with Saturn anymore.
Then he looked at her and shrugged again. "I don't think he knows... well... if he knew I would be dead by now, right?... and in camp... only Remus and Jason knows... " he said but thought agains that maybe that was something to do with the fact that Remus was attacked and almost got killed.
TAG: Felicity WORDS: 404 NOTES: sorry it is short.
Felicity nodded. Josh had a point. Once everyone who was found out to be siding with the Titan were discovered then they would all face trial for their actions. Thought, at least as far as Felicity knew, she would probably have the worst trial. During the beginning of the Titan uprising she tried desperately to have all attention turned onto her. That way no one else would have to face any possible torture or trial. As much as Felicity got annoyed by Rhia, she didn't want to see her, or anyone else involved, turned in and made to face the camp in denial. After all, Felicity committed the worst crime against camp. She was the one who faced Tartarus and brought Saturn on the road that would lead back to his rising.
"Just imagine for a moment Josh that you are in Remus shoes. You are looking down at the girl you love and everyone in camp is calling for her death. You know that her crimes warrant her death and that it would be the fair and just thing to do. Yet, you also have your personal feelings to deal with. You are faced with doing the thing that is right or doing a selfish act. I don't want to put him into that situation." Felicity said truthfully. Just the thought of Remus waging that battle in his head was enough to bring her into the fetal position and cry about all her mistakes. After the hug she studied Josh as he said that statement. It made her just want to cry again. But she had to have a better game face on. Her and Josh were the oldest ones on the quest, they had to show that their years of training would help lead the others in the right direction. So, no matter how much emotion was creeping up and threatening to erupt out of the daughter of Pluto, she had to swallow them done and tell Josh the same thing she tells herself in regards to her death and the people she cares about. "You'll move on. Everyone always does."
Felicity couldn't help but let a tiny smirk flash across her lips. Josh was putting himself in the line of fire to protect others. It was a characteristic they both shared. Two very unlikely people to have such a trait, but perhaps that's what enabled them to get along so well. Yet, as Josh continued, he did bring up a good point. If the Titan knew of the existence of Josh double crossing him why not wipe him from existence? Use him as an example to anyone else who thought it would be an easy ordeal to backstab the father of the Gods. Unless..."Unless he knows and is planning something far worse than death. That's what I'm afraid of also Josh. That one he knows of my plan, and now your plan too, that he won't let us off easy by ending us, that he'll do something far worse than death. Something that would leave us never returning to our normal selves." Felicity stated frantically. Now, not only was she worried for her own self, but for Josh too. Perhaps when she confronted Saturn she could find some way to help Josh out and keep him out of the line of fire so he can continue to do good for the camp. Out of everyone, he was the one who deserved to live a happy life the most.

Josh took a stick from the ground and with it he moved and scrambled the burning wood to keep the fire alive and warm, the weather was getting colder day by day. He listened to Felicity's words about what would he do if he was in her boyfriend's shoes. Well that was an easy answer, if he was in Stone's shoes he would take Rhia away keep her safe from whatever the gods and the camp would want to do with her. But he wasn't Stone and Felicity wasn't Rhia.the praetor and the daughter of Pluto had a sense of loyalty and honor that neither rhia or him had. not at some levels, so he knew theat even when Remus would try to save Felicity, he would do the right thing and Felicity would accept the punishment.
He got up again and looked at Felicity with a calm peaceful smile of his face. "I'm not Remus, because I would keep my girlfriend safe from harm... but I think that you have a point, even when his heart got completely destroyed after the trial and your sentence, he would make the right thing and what law marked." he sighed and then snorted lowly, so she was going to keep her wall up, ok that was good, none of the other members of the quest needed to knoq that something bad was happening with they oldest members, they needed to feel safe. "then I'm sure you'll do it too... if I die first."
The bacon was crisping already and the sausages were getting a darker color, so it would be soon time to get the bacon off the pan and put the eggs, but he waited a bit more, this talk to Felicity was important and the food could wait a bit more too. He looked at her and smiled in the playful way he used when he was calm about some crazy plan that was formuling in his mind. "well... I think I already face something worse than death, so... I'm fine with whatever comes for me, as long as the ones I care about are left aside unharmed." He then knelt again and put the bacon on a plate and put a pair on eggs on the pan.
It was scary, YES! it was scary! but he would never let her or Rhia know how scared he was about his fate. what could Saturn do to him to hurt him more than facing at eternity in Tartarus where he would see day by day all what his soul already feared?
Felicity sighed as Josh made the comment about how obvious the difference between he and Remus were. Of course Felicity could not hope to have Josh understand Remus, well, he did in a way, but not a lot of people were able to understand Remus. He kept himself hidden except to show himself as the leader of the legion. It took years of trying to crack him for Felicity to pry him open and many awkward moments after for him to even begin to think about the prospect of dating. If it wasn't for her he wouldn't be in this mess he was in now. Again, all her fault it seemed like.
She raised an eyebrow at the snort Josh produced then gave him a stern look at the following sentence. How dare he use her own sentence against her! Of course she would have trouble moving on when, no, if Josh died. However, if she argued him on that subject he would just shove that in her face. There was no way to win it seemed. "You know I probably wouldn't be able to. Girls are more emotional than guys are." There, maybe that justified her argument.
The aroma of the food reached Felicitys nose again as a slight breeze made the smell move towards her. She breathed it in. Enjoying the smell and trying to ignore the tiny grumble that had emerged from her belly. She studied Joshs face, he had on one of those smiles that seem calmly crazy. It seemed almost out of place given the circumstances but it was Josh. Felicity was no expert on him, she left that job for Rhia, if anyone should understand him it should be that authority hater little soldier from the fourth cohort. Speaking of the ones Josh cared about, his sentence just now made Felicity just stare at him. She didn't know exactly what to say because honestly, she felt the exact same way. She sighed.
"Well, look on the bright side. Whatever worst than death situation that faces you, also faces me. So we can conquer Tartarus and show all those horrible monsters who is boss." Felicity said, hoping to add some light on their conversation. Couldn't really say that they were having a bright and cherry morning but hey, at least the announcement of morning meant that they were still on Earth. Any day they had left should be a good one because their days were numbered and this quest did not help matters.
The cold wind blew over the meadow where the quest group was camping, it was only a reminder that time was passing fast and cruel. Saturn for sure was getting more followers by the second! Winter was almost there, they had already been out there 4 months! almost 5! and being homesick was already starting to wreck the spirits of the questers, which wasn't the best in the position that they were. Camp and Olympians depended on the success of their mission, but they hadn't been able to find the relic and without it, they wouldn't be able to go back to camp, to the people they already missed!
That feeling got Josh at a slight second when Felicity talked about dying and moving on. It had made his heart shiver, the idea of losing her or any of those that he cared about and on top of the list was Rhia. But a second later he looked at her and smiled when she said that maybe she wouldn't move on, well that had been a good reply. So she would really miss him if he died. He felt good and some warmth in his soul, but also bad, because maybe both of them would face lord Mors sooner than expected and they weren't going to be able to stop it.
"well, it is ok... I'm glad to know I won't be just a shadow in the memory of the people I know." he said and then put the sausages on the plate. and checked that the eggs weren't burning just getting that special golden-brown on the white part of them. He then got up and looked at Felicity, she told them how it would be a great adventure to be in Tartarus, and she was right! he must have it as an adventure. but... could someone cursed have anything as an adventure? He sighed and decided to tell Felicity about it. "Felicity... I broke an Oath over styx... I have a free ticket to tartarus, the worst part of it... not only a traitor to the gods, but a traitor to the Oath."
An oath? Broken over the styx? Was Josh mental? Felicity had no idea what kind of emotion played upon her face. Maybe a mix between anger and disbelief, but while also being upset at the same time. Or maybe she was pulling an Edmund and her face just stared back at Josh blank and stone like. Given the circumstance it was most likely that expression. She had honestly no idea what to say to Josh. He didn't need to worry about what would happen once he died, his fate was already sealed in stone. Tartarus or bust.
"Josh..." Felicity began, then stopped. What was she going to say? Oh, that was too bad? Or that must suck? There was no words to try to help Josh, to try to make his life easier to deal with. As far as Felicity was aware you were condemned to Tartarus once an oath was broken. But, wasn't there always a way around stuff? There had to be something like that for a broken oath over the styx, there just had to be. "There has to be something, someway to make sure you don't go to Tartarus." Felicity said, ending her broken sentence.
She looked at him with determination. For the days she had left she would try to find a way to help Josh. He didn't deserve Tartarus. He was just trying to help everybody he could in the only way he was able to. It wasn't fair. Their lives weren't fair. This situation wasn't fair. Why couldn't something end happily for them? Why must it always end in depression and despair? Felicity glared at the fire, deep in thought. There just had to be a way. Perhaps she could talk to her father, but would Pluto really have an power over the Styx? It was in his domain, maybe. Or he might at least know something. One thing was for sure, Felicity was going to try her best to find Josh a 'get out of Tartarus free' card.
Felicity's face told him how doomed he was, she was a daughter of pluto, so maybe for sure she knew more about the Styx and the oaths there. Her eyes told him all what he needed to know about his one way ticket to Tartarus, she had just confirmed it. But he shouldn't let her know that he was aware of how doomed he was. He only kept smiling at her, in the same confident way he smiled when he was calm about a good plan for a burglary.
Then she also spoke about finding a way to keep him away from tartarus, there he shook his head and held her hand in his. He feared for her, she was already in deep troubles, her father would have to use all his power to keep her safe in the moment when she confront Saturn, so he didn't want her to ask for any kind of favor for him, he wanted her to keep all the golden chips for herself! "I'll be fine Felicity, you know me... I'm sneaky and for sure I'll sneak out of that punishment too, don't risk your chances of getting a favor from the gods on me... I don't deserve that."
He said trying to convince her that he would be fine and that he also had a plan to skip the punishment. It wouldn't be the first time that a son of Mercury could get rid of some kind of punishment. So why couldn't he do the same thing? why wouldn't he be able to to at least make her believe that he was confident to end up in other place that it wouldn't be Tartarus? "forget about my stupid action, just focus on get your butt alive back from when you meet your grandpa, ok?"
