New Rome is a beautiful place, and with Christmas coming it seemed to be even more beautiful. people was going up and down buying tons and tons of presents for the people that they loved, brothers, sister, husbands and wives, children and parents, lovers... all of them were trying to find a good present for them and it was nice to see that even in the rise of a new war, demigods were still thinking on something happy as the change of gifts or Christmas morning, christmas eve.

People going in and out of the stores in Forum, and one of those people was Lilith McKinnon. She was buying the presents for her beloved ones, her family and her friends, also for that special boy that made her heart beat. She was already carrying the bags with some of those gifts. She found something elegant for her grand father Mors, Something casual for her grandfather Apollo that even when he almost never visited camp or her, she wanted him to have something too. Then she also bought something for Jason, Tessa, Lance and Ethan.

Then when she walked in front of a store of stuffed animals, she smiled remembering her other uncle, August. everyone seemed to think he was weird and tried to stay away from him, but she couldn't find a good reason to stay away from him, he was nice, gentle and sweet. besides people should understand that he had a very difficult job in the legion, he was the one that delivered the word of the future, he was the Augur! So for sure he had seen things that others couldn't even imagine!

She walked into the store and bought several stuffed animals, some that she knew that he would use to get the glimpses of future and then she also bought other ones, really beautiful ones,one for August a beautiful and cute rooster, which she hoped he didn't have to 'sacrifice', one for Ethan, other for Tessa and Jason, she even found one cute for Gunnar. So she paid for them and then walked out, thinking on going to visit August soon, but she didn't know that fates would have prepared for them to run into each other sooner than expected.

Why was he here? He wasn’t entirely certain to be honest. He didn’t like people. He really didn’t like crowds. He especially didn’t like crowds of excited people. And that was what the holiday season seemed all about to him. Nothing more than big, ugly crowds. He had never had any reason to like Christmas when he was little, or its Roman counterpart, Saturnalia, when he came to camp. It was nothing but something to get people to spend money and put shops out of debt for the rest of the fiscal year. It didn’t suit his taste. Then again, he had never had any reason to like it before. But now he had family that he was actually sort of closer than normal too. And Charlie as well, who wasn’t family but may as well be. He had Lilith and Jason as well, though, and neither of them were as hateful as the rest of this horrid place. Which was why he was here.

He felt like he should get them something for the holiday, whichever one they chose to celebrate. Would that be weird though? He’d never gotten anyone anything like this before. He didn’t know where to start. He wasn’t the shopping type. To be honest, he really wasn’t sure what type he was. If any. Ugh, why did this have to be so difficult? Maybe he would just wish said people happy holidays or something. That could work. He didn’t expect anything from anyone anyway, and getting a present without anything to give in return just made for an awkward situation. And considering he actually liked the people in question, he decided to spare them that. There, that wasn’t so hard, now was it? He had a plan, and he was going to stick to it.

So he set off to head back and train or something. Something that didn’t involve holiday crowds. That was when he walked in front of a shop just as someone was walking out and nearly ran right into them. “Watch your-!... Lilith.” He stopped short in his usual unpleasantries when he noticed who it was. Lilith McKinnon, his half-niece, though he preferred to think of her as a little sister. Made things less weird to think about. Being an uncle was a weird feeling, even if it was true. She was weighted down with several bags, then again, it seemed most people around were. He cleared his throat. “Sorry, thought you were… well, not you. My bad. Looks like you’re keeping busy.”

Walking out of that store, Lilith never thught that she would run into her uncle/brother August. He was an amazing man, underneath all that mask of being serious and not carying about others, was a very sweet, careing man. Lilith was proud of being related to him and even more that he called him sister and that he allowed her to call him brother. So when she walked out of the Store and suddenly crashed against someone, first she heard a harsh kind of voice, harsh but that she recognized, she looked at the man in front of her and when she looked at him, he also changed his tone, he spoke again but in the same tender way that he used when he talked to her. She looked at him and and opened widely her bright blue eyes, it was always nice to run into a family member, she smiled widely too and then grined. "August!!" she said and then giggled at how he appologized about his tone of voice. "don't worry... it was also my fault, I wasn't looking at where I was going." She said with a soft high pitched voice. when everyone looked at you as if you were a weird bug, the best thing was if others smiled at you. so she smiled at him. Then he commented about her being occupied and busy. She looked down and smiled again looking at the bags, then looked back at him and nodded. "Yes! Saturnalia is coming and I love those days! I always celebrate it." she smiled and then came closer to him and leaned up to kiss his cheek, then hugged him tightly. "It is so good to see you! tell me what have you been doing? What brought you here?" she asked and looked at him smiling. She didn't hide the bags, because it would have been extremely fool from her to do it, because he had already seen them. some people passed by and looked at them, most of them knew him, the Augur of Camp Jupiter, but they all thought only the surface of him, so they tended to stay away or not even look at him. She was invisible, not many people knew her and the few that knew her, treated her like a shadow, a ghost, so they also tended to not even care if she was there. She glanced at them and then back at August. what would her brother be doing out there, as far as she knew he didn't like to be out there and even less with so many people.

He really did love his sister, even if he was terrible at showing it. Thankfully she seemed to make up for it with her enthusiasm. He had to smile at her tone, the way she exclaimed his name and her light laugh. Most people didn’t laugh in his presence, so it was refreshing to hear. One of the reasons he so treasured Lilith. “No, it’s not your fault.” He didn’t like her blaming herself for anything, which he knew she did a lot. He wanted her to be happy and content with who she was, though he often worried about her. “I shouldn’t walk so close to doors, right?”

August chuckled as she talked about Saturnalia. “It is a fun holiday. New Rome really outdoes itself in the festival, but I suppose for one of the biggest Roman holidays, that only makes sense.” He’d never been to the festival himself, but he’d heard plenty about it. Maybe he’d go this year. Maybe. There were just so many people and so much… well, in short it really wasn’t his cup of tea. If he had someone to go with, maybe, but really all his family and his single friend were all dating, so would no doubt be going with their significant other. Ah well. Maybe someday. Maybe never. It really didn’t matter that much to him either way.

What brought him here. Well, that was a good question, considering he avoided this type of situation like his life depended on it most of the time. So he decided to start with the first question. First of all, because it logically came first. Second of all, because it was easier to answer. “Mostly just training and the occasional augury. Nothing out of the ordinary. As for why I’m here…” He smiled just slightly, more like he was laughing at himself on the inside than anything else. “Would you believe me if I told you I was thinking about doing some Saturnalia shopping too? I don’t even know where to start. Not used to, well, having people to shop for.” Wow, that sounded pathetic. It had sounded better in his head. Not by much, but hey. “What about you? What have you been up to lately? And I assume the answer to the why are you in New Rome is pretty obvious,” he said with a smile. Since she was holding the evidence and everything.

He was fully aware of the odd looks they were getting, but hardly cared. He was used to odd looks, almost wanted them in an odd way. It confirmed his belief that he would be all but alone, unwanted by everyone but his siblings here. That was all that mattered to him really: his job and his siblings.

Lilith looked at her older brother, well he was her uncle, but she loved him as a brother, no matter what others might say, and unless he told her otherwise, she would still call him like that, brother! He made a half joke about not walking close to the doors, or at least she thought it was a joke, because anyone should be allowed to walk near the doors, but maybe people like her would have to be more careful when walking in and out of the shops. "well, I think both should be careful, you walking in and me walking out!"

It was nice to be around him, he had this relaxing aura, for some reason for her he was like that, not like people in camp used to speak about him. She loved his voice and the way he seemed to never get tired of her presence. He talked about Saturnalia and Lilith couldn't help but smile even more, she had always loved it! since she was a kid and her parents gave her the most beautiful presents. they always celebrated it and enjoyed the time together, so why wouldn't she enjoy the holidays, even when the Titan spoiled it with his name... well originally was for him, but... he spoiled it!! "This is my first time at New Rome in Saturnalia since last war, so... I really hope they do a great job this year."

She listened at him while he described what he had been doing lately. He was a very busy man and she was glad that from time to time he walked out of his place, that he tried to get his mind off his divination and his trainings, he also need to be a bit more calm and relaxed. "it is good you get some rest from that!" She said and then tilted her head when he mentioned he wanted to buy for Saturnalia, but frowned when he said he didn't use to have people to give something to. She didn't considered herself as important as to be one of the reasons he wanted to go shopping, but she was glad he wanted to give gifts.

He was right, she had just bought a lot of stuff for all those that she loved and cared. "well, I can help you to put you in the right direction so you can buy all what you have in mind." she smiled widely. "I almost finished, so... I'm free to help you!"

August was pretty sure it was impossible to be upset around his sister (niece, whatever). He was having a bit of a bad day though – no news there – so he wasn’t really happy, but at least seeing Lilith made him, well, more neutral. Something like that. He took a deep breath, let it out, and gave her a smile. She was a good sister, probably the only person in this whole camp he actually got along with. A little depressing, yes, but that was just how it was. He’d accepted it long ago. But then again, hating his lonely life made having someone like Lilith in it all the more special. She brightened his day, kept him company, everything. He was a little sad to lose her now that she had a boyfriend to spend time with. Which reminded him, he would have to investigate this boy of hers. He had his duty as a big brother/uncle to make sure that Lilith only got the best. If she wasn’t happy, someone would pay.

But for right now, time with his sister was more important. He smiled at her. “I suppose so. I’ll keep that in mind for the future.” It was good to see her so happy. She had a way of lightening up the atmosphere around her just by being there. Her contagious smile – even to his frozen heart – her bright way of looking at the world. Everything about her. She was so happy and innocent; he wanted to protect her from the evils of the world. Which was one reason he was quite happy she had taken up medicine here at camp. If it came down to war, she would be much safer, he hoped, tucked away in the medical unit helping the wounded instead of out on the front lines. He nodded at her words. “I’m sure they’ll do great. It seems to me every year they outdo the previous one.”

August smiled slightly. “I couldn’t agree more: breaks are a necessity. Though yesterday I spent a solid forty-five minutes playing my violin in Apollo’s temple. My own sort of offering, and something to get away from it all. Actually a bit of a habit of mine, between you and me.” He did that a lot: go to his father’s temple both for the solitude and because it belonged to his father. It had good acoustics too. Perhaps that was intentional, though he’d never know. He chuckled when she offered her help. It was ironic really. “Well, actually… it would sort of spoil the surprise that way. Because you’re the one I’m shopping for. So what if I treat you to a nice lunch and we call it good?” He’d still buy her something of course. Hmm, maybe a portable medical kit to practice her skills. That sounded good. Yes, he would do that. Tomorrow, when she wasn’t around to catch him buying it. He did still want to surprise her.
