The Beginning of the End[Ryan, Nick]

What about now? The war preparation was far shorter than he had imagined. Last war was years before it escalated to a full fledged battle. This time it was perhaps a single year since this mess had started, and boy had it escalated quickly. It might not be the best of idea's, but Robin had made the decision. It was time to pay the demigods under Saturn's guidance a visit. He'd seen how the Immortal could mess up a child’s head, and he was worried for his nephew Nick. He had promised his sister Amelia he would do what he could for the boy as well. Their family was a fairly close one, Who else but the Goddess of Family would have one such as theirs? A little bickering, nothing unusual about that. Here and now, Robin wanted to make sure the Demigods and Legacies in that army to be okay, to live. He never much cared what side someone was on, just that they were true to their own heart. His vest lay atop a dark colored medieval style shirt, and his weapons were fit into a set of two leather belts. He looked a bit like something you might find in the Three Musketeers. He was not a complete fool, as many might believe him to be. Robin had his own rapier and a dagger on his hip as he made his way out of New Rome and towards the temporary base laid out past the Fields of Mars. He'd not use them to strike a demigod or legacy, though he would use them to block their attacks. If they should prove to be as hostile as people believed them to be. With the benefit of the doubt, he trusted they not be completely rash.

OOC: sorry, you guys don't have to match at all. his muse just kind of exploded >.< ic: 418 this is it boys, this is war this was it. the war was starting. ryan couldn't even believe it. seriously? it felt like they had just finished a war. the last one had only been three years ago, for gods sakes! with wounds still healing, they were once again forced, head first, into a second war. truth be told, he was terrified. just as terrified as when he had to face the first one. this is all what they had been training for. real life combat. ryan never wanted any part in another war for as long as he lived, but it looked like the universe decided to play a cruel game. for the first war, tensions had been steadily building for years. this war had come into being so quickly. two years of peace, then an angry, year long crescendo into a new conflict. the same conflict. saturn. the legion had been given a seven day notice. one week to get their crap together. as generous of rhiannon to say the least, and camp jupiter certainly hadn't wasted any time. if the praetors and centurions hadn't been in a frantic-get-your-butts-into-training-and-work-with-500% mode for the past few months, then the last week had been worse, if that was even possible. ryan had been training and teaching himself as many new infirmary techniques and remedies as he could. on top of that, he had also taken it upon himself to reassure the children. chins up, smiles on, make them as comfortable as possible before the harsh reality smacked them in the face. they were all too young to deal with this. heck, he was too young to be dealing with this. heck, all of them were too young to be dealing with this! the fifteen year old sat on the edge of the field of mars, playing one last song for his tree, Kaylee. this would be the last time he'd be able to see her until after the war (besides when he went near her on the battlefield). "you'll be okay..." he whispered, trying to convince her as much as himself. the poor, innocent, little sapling. he wasn't sure whether she'd be able to withstand the war if they all rushed each other, slashing, opening up the ground, producing hellfire, and all the other powers the demigods and monsters had. how many more trees would he have to plant after the war? ryan bit his lip and looked up, a figure entering his vision. "robin?" he asked, tilting his head. "what are you doing out here?"

What about now? It hadn't been beyond Robin's expectations to happen across a camper or two on his way. Though to see someone so far out from everyone else and not practicing for the war might have been a little different. Spying the rather peaceful Ryan wasn't out of the way, and he gave a smile stopping at the boys side. With a bit of a nod and his more than obvious smile he confirmed his own name. “Yes, a bit odd to see anyone all the way out here isn't it Ryan?” Of course the son of Ceres would be out here, his eyes glanced over a small tree the boy had seemed to be paying extra attention to. Oddly enough residual feelings of love and anxiousness seemed to fall on it's leaves. Probably from the boy himself, as plants did tend to feel emotions from humans for a time. It was the reason talking to them happily allowed them to grow better, while screaming at them left them to wither. “I was simply heading over to the Othrys Camp to have a chat.” sure he spoke of it as just another everyday outing, as if there was no significance to it at all. Though to him there was. His nephew Nick was important to him, and so was the safety of every demigod, here in camp or in the Othrys camp. He had heard a bit of the song Ryan had played for the plant, not much as he was still walking on his way at the time. Though in the empty field it wasn't difficult to hear some general acoustics from it. If only people would realize they were all just children. Human children in a war that they shouldn't be a part of. People change over time, and in a teenagers short time they can change a great deal. Still trying to learn about the world and about themselves. They should never be allowed in a war like this, and never expected to choose a side like this. They were kids. “Sorry it's a bit abrupt, but I'll be going. Lots of possible patience over there you know.” He smiled kindly at Ryan and started off toward the other camp again.

IC: 372 but this is the only way i know how Was it cutting into war time a bit close? Yup. But this was the only thing right now that would help him calm his nerves. Looking at a tree and reminding him that there would always be life after the world being a horrible place. It may be small life, but life non the less. As long as there was life, there was growth. "Kinda... but I wanted to check her... once more before everything happens." Poor Kaylee. She was just a little sapling, she didn't deserve to be stuck in the middle (or edge) of all of this. Even though he hoped for the best and kind of semi avoided thinking about the worst, he knew that there were going to causalities. The last war had been hell. Something told him that this one could be contender for being worse. Not that any war was any better than another... He looked up at Robin, his musings on paralleling the sapling with themselves at camp falling short mid sentence. "Really?" he asked, standing up. Not skeptical, not stunned, not in a you're-freaking-crazy voice. Interested. "Can I come too?" He didn't even wait for Robin's response before launching into a little spiel. "I've actually been meaning to go over there... y'know, with cookies and stuff, darn it I don't have them on me now, but that's not the point. I've wanted to talk to them too, see if there's any talking them out of it. I mean... Nick's my cohort leader, Simons... well, can't say much about him, but a couple of those people over there were my friends from fourth and... I just... don't want another war. Just.... 'cause," he finished quietly, looking back over at Kaylee. He nodded. "Yup, lots of potentials," he agreed, and followed him. He was sweet-less, but still, he had his optimism and he had Robin. Maybe they could convince these people that there could be another way. This didn't all have to end in violence and bloodshed. Maybe they could see that they'd been deceived all along. All he had to do was put Nick's mind back straight again. Ryan knew he wasn't in his right mind. Not since Kaylee died.

What about now? Robin had expected skeptical. He had expected stunned. He had expected the accusation of being out of his mind. He had not expected company. Giving the boy a smile he made sure his stride was one Ryan could keep up with. The height difference wasn't too great, but he was more legs than he was torso. It gave him a great advantage in fighting, long arms and legs were great for use with the rapier and dancing if he might say so himself. “Oh but it's dangerous and as an adult I'd be a poor excise if I didn't at least suggest you go back.” his voice wasn't too convincing, not that he was particularly trying to be so. Having company could both help and hinder him, but in the least he knew this boy wouldn't try to use any injuries sustained against those kids under Saturn's thumb. He didn't know Ryan too well, but from the emotions he could sense off the boy and the words he'd heard spoken about him, he had a nice idea. With a brief look over the boy he noticed not a weapon on him. He took the dagger from his hip and handed it to Ryan, because after that spiel he was pretty certain the boy wouldn't simply leave from a half hearted attempt at sending him back. “I bet the cookies would have gone over great too.” He said with a bit of a chuckle. Between the two smiling geeks you'd never imagine they were on their way to the camp of blood thirsty monsters. Creatures who literally ate demigods for lunch, and a few children who had been mislead. “I've always wanted an assistant, difficult to find the peaceful types who want to give everyone a chance though. Or five chances. Or infinity chances really. Few people want another war. Even Mars doesn't want this war, and you have to admit that is saying something.” To be honest he still saw Mars as his uncle, and saw fit to defend him when people would say he was nothing but a brute. Perhaps a bit of one, but like anyone else there was much more to him than just the surface. The big softy inside that loved dogs, and of course family. He'd never say that to Mars face, the god had a reputation to uphold, but he knew better. It wasn't long until they came upon the front of the camp. “Still time to turn back.” He said with a smile, though his own stride did not stop. The mobile fortress in front of them was a dark mockery of Camp Jupiter, similar in shape and built in a similar way but it's color and the feeling it gave off was more sinister. Though there was a wall between him and the ones inside he could feel the emotions pouring off the makeshift camp. This would be quite the ordeal for him, such strong emotions could overtake his senses. The same way a flashbang could. Those inside most certainly needed help.

IC: 415 honestly, i wanna see you be brave ryan only had one goal during this war: the least amount of collateral damage. he didn't care whether saturn or jupiter. he didn't want people to die. wounded? sure, that's what he was going to be there for: offering help regardless of side. human life was human life. a lot of the demigods who had left for saturn were just confused, blinded by the charismatic titan's empty promises and deluded future plans. he wished he could've gotten the courage to do something like robin had initiated, but the only thing he could do now, was happily go along with him. nick was over there. maybe he could convince his cohort leader. nick wasn't a traitor. ryan still loved him. he still had family within the cohort. Ryan had to grin.  "oh, thanks for the concern, but I'll decline. we're romans. occupational hazards," he said with a light tease. nope, ryan was going, the end. he looked down at the extended dagger. "no, thanks though, i'm covered." ryan reached into his pocket and took out a model staff which quickly grew to its normal size. he had asked the forge for an upgrade. they had thought he'd been crazy. ryan didn't want any sharp things ON the staff. just his good old staff that could retract. "i'd of probably ate half of them on the way," he laughed. "but yes, food, sleep, and logic and maybe a few of them could come to their senses." two peaceful demigods grinning and strolling towards possible death. nothing to see here. wow. even mars didn't want this? "wow..." ryan said softly. "i'll help! i'll work part time for you if you'd like." two chances, five chances, infinity chances with no want for fighting. yup, that was him. probably bad in a traditional roman's eyes, but him just the same. they were soon face to face with the entrance to saturn's camp. this was it. ryan exhaled and looked over at robin, his friend and fellow solider. keeping each other's back was just a credo around here. protect your fellow solider, give your life for rome, your friend, and your cohort. one of the things that ryan actually agreed with. "nope. you're stuck with me," ryan said with a smile, not even breaking stride. there were people in there who needed help, and ryan was going to try giving it to them. a demigod was a demigod, no matter what, they were all bound.

War was something that no matter who wanted to stop it, it would still come and devour all of the ones in it. Saturn maybe would be the only one capable to stop it, if only he had some common sense, but Nick knew better than no one what was to look into someone's eyes and know that there was no possibility to bring that person back to sanity, he knew it because he had seen himself on the water reflection, the onix black on the walls of  Othrys and also on some windows and mirrors, he had seen the insanity fighting to come again to the surface, but he couldn't just let it happen... not yet... he would have to keep it buried a couple of more hours... maybe only till war started, then he would free it and let it kill all the monsters who would hurt the ones he loves... right? He was walking a couple of yards away from the main tents, he just couldn't be in there longer without decapitate someone in there. S he decided to go for a walk. He was walking outside, thinking on what happened with Mars in San Fransisco, how he talked to him, how he let him know that in his eyes, Nicholas had been right, he had been right about killing those who cowardly killed Kaylee. he breathed deeply and then looked up to the sky, it was full of stars and it was so relaxing, then he also remember that first... "date" he had with Kaylee, that day when he begged her not to join Saturn and she, as the good tender soul she was, she agreed and didn't join the titan... "Carajo!!" he curse in Spanish, which he tend to do whenever he was really mad or excited. he thought that maybe if he hadn't done that, she would still be alive... traitor but alive, and after trial she would have been able to live a life away from the Legion... but ALIVE!! He still blamed himself for that, for not being there with her, for losing his mind and for being in that moment with Saturn. But he had already made a desision, and he wasn't going to betray camp anymore... he was there but then he had a mission, as soon as they got into battle... he would kill all those monsters and would give time some small leverage to win this war.
