A date! Sam grinned at herself in the mirror as she held up two outfits she was deciding between. True, Terry had seen her in her pajamas for that matter, since she had once stayed at his home for a few days to keep him company after he lost his brother. She still worried about him now, but it was a relief to see him frequently when she worked at his coffee shop. He seemed to be handling things fairly well now, getting through life one day at a time. That was the best anyone could wish for him at this point. And then one day, yesterday, he had surprised her… by asking her out on a date. Naturally, she had said yes. Since Robin had none-too-easily let it slip that he didn’t nor ever would have feelings for her, she’d cut off her own feelings for him as best she could. Which also helped because his death didn’t hit her as hard as it would have otherwise. Still hard, but not as hard. She still had considered him a friend, after all. Then she met Terry. At first she had thought they could be fantastic friends. Until she realized she was developing feelings for him. She didn’t want to ruin anything, so she acted the friend part her best. Until he asked her out. Then the butterflies in her stomach really went crazy. Now… now that it was half an hour away, well, they were doing cirque du soleil in her stomach.
Which led her to here: picking out the perfect thing to wear. Her first date with Terry. Actually… her first date ever, for that matter. She’d never been one for dating, had a few crushes, sure, but nothing had ever happened. Until now. Until Terry. She nodded to herself in the mirror and set down the shorts and blouse, and opted for the cute dress. It was her first time wearing it, and she thought it an appropriate time to take it out for a test run. After all, she wanted to look perfect. Or as close to it as she could. She ran a brush through her hair and pinned it back on the sides. Hmm, makeup. She had some foundation, but that was about it. She picked up the little container and looked back in the mirror. She wasn’t a supermodel or anything; there were imperfections on her face. Things the foundation would hide. But at the same time, like she’d said, he’d seen her in her pajamas. Without makeup. Bedhead. The whole nine. She set the foundation back in its drawer. No, she was going to go natural today. Like most every day, really. She wanted to look nice for him, but she still wanted to look like herself.
So she grabbed her purse with her apartment keys and left, locking the door behind her, and headed for the forum. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, not too hot, not too cold. There were a few fluffy white clouds in the sky, but not so many as to blot out the brilliant blue sky. She couldn’t help but smile, if not for the occasion, then at least for the good weather. When she got to the forum, she took a seat on the edge of the large fountain in the middle and smoothed her dress over her lap. There was no sign of him yet, but according to her watch, she was still a bit early.
