Notes: yes!! first thread Kate/Nova BF4ever!!

It was difficult to describe how Nova really felt after war. She was happy to be alive, in fact she had asked Lilith McKinnon to take some offerings to the Temple Hill while she was in the infirmary, she had done it too after she had gotten out. She was alive and capable to help around in the forge at least, she had already done an arm to Jason, but only with the help of Lance. She had enjoyed all the time they spent together, but still she felt bad for dragging him there to her side every single day... maybe he got something better to do than hanging around with a criple... right?

And that thought brought us to the next problem or issue. She felt she was useless at every point in the battle field, maybe she could be of some use in the forge, but what about the battle field? she was a granddaughter of the all mighty Bellona, she had some skills in battle, maybe not with a sword, but for sure with her Chakrams, but since the injury, since she realized she would never move her legs again, she had lost the like for those things, or better said, the joy of using those chakrams. She also tried to avoid anything that could be close to the fields of Mars, the archery range or the obstacle curse. She simply wasn't in the mood for those.

But that day... well she hadn't see Kate in a couple of days, so maybe if she went out and look for her would be better than waiting in the forge. So the first place she thought of was the archery range. She pushed the wheels of her chair, Edmund, Lance, Ronan have told her to upgrade her chair, and for sure she could do it, but... then she would lose all kind of exercise, at least like that she could push and work with her arms. She got to the archery range and looked for Kate.

The war was still fresh in Caitlyn's mind. How could it not be? Of course, a little more than a month had passed, but healing time meant a little next to nothing with it was just a repeat of three years ago. A war at ten and a war at thirteen. Welcome to the Legion. Even though she would've liked to say she was more prepared this time than the last time, she had still gotten knocked out somewhere... sometime during the fighting. Next time (although she prayed to the gods there would be no next time), she would be ready. She wouldn't get herself knocked out. She'd keep on fighting until the end. Maybe that way there could be less deaths. Less sadness. Even though all the centurions had laid training back for the time being, Kate was trying to take as little time off as possible. She needed to train and get better still. Raised in New Rome by former Legionaries, she saw no other way than this life. Train. Get good. Serve. Save others. When she was little, that's all she could think about. Now that she had lived through two wars, it was certain that it was all she could think about. She had to help protect this place, or die trying, just like her mother and brother had.

So, even though she had the down time, she still decided to go to the archery fields to practice. Sword... she could work on a little later, but right now, she had to practice her aim on missile weapons. True, being a granddaughter of Apollo had its perks. She was no where as good as her mother had been, but she had a bit more ease with it than others. Almost like a whisper along her finger tips and arm muscles as she aimed the arrow. That, along with Legion training had given her a certain confidence in her target practice. How you practiced was how you played. She had gotten most of her targets during the war. Monsters, both human and non human. Although she tried not to hit vital parts, her quiet, usually unspoken rage did come out every now and again. Mostly on monsters. She tried her best to stop herself with the humans. They could've been like her. They could've had their reasons... maybe... maybe... Oh, who knew? They attacked them!

Kate drew her bow and fired at the target, yards away. It hit a little off center, but Kate had felt a slight change in wind. Ah well, she should've accounted for that... it could happen in real life, on the battle field. She always had to prepare... As she turned around to aim at another target, a familiar figure caught her eye. "Nova!" she smiled and jogged over, her hair in a messy bun. "Haven't seen you in a few days! What've you been up to?"

Nova looked at Kate and smiled at her, it was nice to see a friendly face. Not that the faces in the forge weren't, but she simply needed some girl time, and she could only get that kind of time with Kate or with Mattie, or both, in fact both were her best female friends, and she loved to hang out with them. At least she had loved it before war, but the moment she looked at her friend, with that messy bun and her bow in her hand, she knew she still liked to hang out with her. She lifted her hand from the wheel and waved at Kate as the red haired girl jogged to the place where she was.

Nova pushed her chair closer to where Kate was. Mattie and Lance were her other close friends, all of them were the ones who had helped her get through the deep, deep hole where she had been since she found out that she would never move her legs. She had spent days and nights in the Forge, she tried to seclude herself in there, trying to find out if she was still good at something after she lost her legs.

For weeks she had thought that she was nothing more than a dead weigth and that there was nothing she could do to help the legion, her cohort or even herself, but then, as always, her friends came to rescue her. It wasn't that her brothers or her centurion didn't try to help her, in fact they tried very hard to make her understand that she could still do a lot for the legion, but in her head, she was still a dead weight.

But then there was Lance, going into the forge every day, risking himself to get burnt by Ronan or even by Nova, every day he visited her there and took some food, because he knew she would had eaten at all. Kind but true words he spoke to her everytime he walked in there. Then there was Kate, hyper and like a beam of light in the darkness of the Forge. and finally Mattie... strong as her goddly parent and grandparent. Kate and Mattie took her out of the forge, and also both of them spoke to her with true words.

Finally all of them made her realize that she wasn't a dead weight, she was more than that, she was still Nova even when she could walk or couldn't throw chakrams. So that day she went to look for Kate also to ask for some help. "yeah... I finally decided to see if the world was still here..." kind of joked, then smiled at her friend. "you need to practice a bit more, right? I'm sorry if I interrupted it."

Nova and Mattie had to be her closest friends in the Legion. They were all around the same age, and even though they were separated by cohort from Mattie, it made little difference. They all found themselves getting together and becoming friends somehow. There was no way to describe the amount of relief she had felt after she found out they were alive during the war. Nova had to use a wheelchair, but that didn't matter at all. Nova was still her friend, and Kate would stand by her. She had gotten that way by fighting in a war, for gods sakes. She was an honorable warrior who had sacrificed things no kid had to sacrifice to help other people. If anyone had a problem with that, Kate could always shoot them in the shoulder. And there were jerks out there. Well excuse them if they didn't walk away totally unharmed. Lucky bastards. Everyone got injured someway during war: physically, mentally, emotionally... or all three. Besides, she wasn't the only one who'd stick up for her friend. Nova also had Mattie, siblings in the forge, the rest of her cohort, and a quiet Mercury legacy who was also in the forge a lot. She had a great support system going, but it just took yourself and a jerk to take you down. From what Kate saw in the forge, the other forgers had no problem with that. Although, one or two of them seemed to give off a vibe that if anyone looked at Nova funny, they'd be next in the fire pits.

Of course, Kate had expected her to be a bit down on herself. Who wouldn't be after losing the loss of their legs? After some time and a lot of love though, Nova adjusted. She wasn't her state and she was a damn valuable Legionnaire still. She gave a slight grin at Nova. "Still turning." It felt like this before... that odd feeling after the quiet of a war. Everything and nothing had changed. It was almost like... nothing had happened... but everything had happened... "Nah, done enough for today. We're still on a loosey-goosey training schedule. So I'd say enough," she said, putting the bow across her body. She shook her head. Interruptions (especially from a friend) were more than okay. In all reality, Kate was still half fighting to shut out the battle field shouting that took over her head whenever she picked up a weapon. Gods, they'd all need psychiatrists. If war took its toll on the older people of the Legion, it certainly did on the younger ones, even if they didn't even fully understand the extent of it at the time. "Not at all," she grinned. "I'd much rather talk to you. By a long shot," she smiled, jumping over the barrier that separated her and her friend. "What's up?"

Notes: Sorry for the wait!!

Kate was right, since war ended, and with one of their centurions injured and the other injured first and then trying to find that centurion from fifth and then the rest of the abductees, the trainings of the second cohort had been slacky, really loose. so people had the chance to relax, to rest and to heal, not only physically, but also mentally. One of those was Nova, she had needed weeks to get out of her room and months to get out of the forge. But finally she had decided to do it. She knew that self pity wouldn't take her anywhere, and she was also hurting her brothers and friends.

"Yeah... I just hope Miss Yates and Mr. Mitchell feel much better soon." she knew that they had a new centurion too, August Mitchell. People didn't like him, they kind of hated the poor guy, but he seemed nice, for some reason when she had looked at him she hadn't felt repugnance, but pity. But good pity not bad one. Besides she had seen that nice medic, the one from fifth cohort, with him. She seemed to spend a good time with him and he seemed happy, so maybe it was only people's prejudice that kept him so cold at everyone else.

"Well, in that case I can show you this!!" she said and took the crossbow and the chakrams from under her seat. she wanted to show her friend the crossbow, not the chakrams, in facts she looked at them and sighed, then put them back under her seat. She knew she needed more movility to use those. and in her current state, she wouldn't be able to use them properly. after leaving her beloved weapons again in a place where she couldn't see them, she looked up at Kate and showed her the crossbow. "I've been working on this beauty!" she smiled wdely at Kate and showed her the weapon that had already some arrows in its place, ready to be used.

"It is semiautomatic!! Mattie said it was a nice piece, but I also needed you to tell me what do you think about it! do you think I could use it in a battle? you know, instead of my chakrams, with the crossbow I only need to aim and shoot." She smiled and then move a bit pushing her wheels to the shooting spot, so they could try the new weapon. "I'll show it to Lance as slong as he has some time." she half blushed at the mention of her male's friend name.

Kate would be lying if she said that she didn't like the break from the hard training schedule. As a member of the second most prestigious cohort, it was expected. At the same time though, she was still just thirteen: she got tired and (gods forbid) lazy at times, just as any other teenager. Preteen. Whatever a thirteen year old was called these days. She knew that eventually her would pick up again, but right now, she just relished the few weeks of calm. Plus, it gave her time to recuperate from the war. No one should've been recuperating from something as traumatic as a war at any age, especially nothing under twenty-one, yet here all of them were. Twenty and younger. Ah well. It was the Legion... maybe they were just having bad luck... for three years in a row. Yes. That was it. They were just in a bad luck streak... things would get better.... They would. The past month's events had bubbled up feelings that she rather not address. Healthy? No... but too late to do anything about it. No. Positive things... Surely the infirmary and forge combined or something could do something to get her friend her legs back. If anything, Nova deserved that.

"Same... I heard Cousin Tessa keeps trying to get into the forge but she's been locked out," she said. "Heard anything about that?" Stubborn Romans as they all where. Even on brink of death they'd keep training, keep forging, keep fighting, keep... whatever-ing, even if they were on the brink of collapse. It must've been frustrating for her, being put on bed rest when she always had so much to do: run the infirmary, forge, and run their cohort. Seriously, if anyone needed a vacation, it would be the centurions, Uncle August, and the praetors. And then there was her Uncle August. "August? I haven't heard anything about him... do we know what happened? Is he okay?" Another horrible thing about wars... sometimes things got so hectic with so many lost, or injured, missing, or dead, you didn't hear about everyone you wanted to. In this case, she hadn't heard anything about August.

The thirteen year old's face brightened as Nova pulled out two items from underneath her chair. "Sure!" Her friend was always making lovely things. An artist, mechanic, and forger. It never ceased to amaze Kate what she produced in there. Today, her friend happened to have a crossbow and her chakram. But then she put the chakram away. One day Nova would have enough confidence and motivation to use it again, Kate believed greatly in that. But for now, she'd let it slide. For now, she'd just be her friend and give her support. "That's amazing!" Kate grinned, looking at the crossbow. She had never even thought to do semi-automatic or anything like that, really. She gave a nod. "Of course I think you could use it! It's so cool that you even thought of it! I mean, I wouldn't of thought of semi-automatic or anything," she said with a slight laugh as they moved infront of a target. "I bet he'll be impressed," she said with a slight grin, nudging her friend's shoulder slightly.
