Mattie had noticed her old sword wasn't balanced for her anymore. Too knocked around and chipped in the war or she was just growing more, again. Would make sense. She was still in that awkward puberty stage, heck, she had to get fitted for all new armor before the war and the person said it would only be temporary because she was still growing and that it would probably last her a year, at most. Mattie didn't mind growing up, it was just a bit weird. Getting use to wearing a bra, which, sports bras were now her favorite thing. Less complex than those silly double barrel sling shots, which was seriously what Mattie thought they were when she first saw them. But she was learning about the more feminine side of life. At least she had Eve to help with that. She was probably the most feminine girl Mattie knew, thanks to Remus for that. If her brother wasn't friends with her, who knows the direction Mattie would have taken. Speaking of Eve, Mattie had always wished Remus would have dated her. She was nice and caring, plus Mattie, though it was biased, liked her a lot better than Felicity.

Speaking of her brothers relations Mattie needed to talk to him. Perhaps when he came by. He promised he would help her find a good temporary sword with good balance. If he remembered and showed up Mattie would have to be the good little sister she was and bother him about rumors she had heard. A few days ago she had a young Venus girl practically tackle her in the mess hall to ask if it was true that Remus had moved on and was dating that Eve girl because she saw them kiss. As far as Mattie knew he was still grieving so she didn't know how to respond. She wasn't one to follow after rumors, unless it involved her siblings love life, mainly because she liked to be nosy with them. Therefore, she needed to get to the bottom of this rumor with Remus. If he was indeed moving on, Mattie would be thrilled, especially if it was with Eve, but she would also try to make sure he was truly okay with it. Considering what he went through. She knew it was a difficult topic to bring up with him and to be honest, she had always avoided any mention of his deceased fiance since the end of the war. She didn't know how to approach it, but she wanted to help her brother as much as possible. After all, besides being a brat to him, she cared for him, that was just part of being a little sister.

Remus had a diversion. A more than welcome one. He signed his name on the piece of paperwork he was working on and glanced at his watch. Still ten minutes to get there. He smiled and stood up, went to Jason’s desk, and dropped the paper – this one needed to be signed by both of them – in his inbox before heading to his room real quick. He gave the flower Eve had given him that now resided on his windowsill a quick drink of water and grabbed his own gladius before heading out, Argentum in tow. Aurum was with Jason… wherever. He thought he remembered checking Jason’s schedule offhand and, no surprise, he’d taken up helping fourth cohort train today. The praetors usually did help out with the trainings when paperwork didn’t bury them; had to keep in shape just like everyone else. And he was pretty sure he knew Jason’s hidden agenda too, as if it wasn’t obvious. Heck, he used to do the same thing. Back when Felicity was a centurion, he’d volunteer to help with her cohort all the time. Mostly because he found her giving orders and kicking butt extremely hot. What? He was not only a guy, but a son of Mars. It was just in his blood. Though recently – really recently – he started pondering helping out another cohort for similar reasons. Gods, he was so predictable. The thought made him smile to himself as he walked to the armory.

When he got there, he had to check his watch again. Three minutes shy, but of course his little sister had beat him there. She was always so eager for a good fight, and getting a new sword for a child of Mars was like getting to have two Christmases in the same year. Or Saturnalia. Whichever. It was odd, really, how some people here practiced both holidays, seeing as in ancient times that was practically unheard of. Back in the day, polytheistic Romans and the small but growing group of Christians were always at odds with each other, but here, it was like they finally got along. Confusing, that, but he went along with it. Plus, he rather liked the decorations…for both holidays. He entered the armory, Argentum immediately going up to Mattie, happy to see her. If those dogs could have emotion; he really wasn’t sure. But either way, they liked Mattie. And several other people whom the praetors kept company with frequently. “Well, well, the Hobbit beat me here. Guess I owe you a smoothie then, whenever you feel like redeeming that one.” He smiled jokingly, using one of his myriad of nicknames for her. He loved his sister, he truly did. He just showed it a little funnily.

Mattie heard the footsteps before seeing her brother and his faithful metal companion enter the armory. As Argentum bounded over to Mattie a grin spread across her face and she knelled down to pay the metal dog attention. Whether or not it recognized attention she wasn't sure. That was where she preferred actually dogs over the metal ones, but the praetors dogs were honestly amazing too, just if Mattie had to choose between having a metal pet versus a live one, the live one would win out. She rolled her eyes at Remus's comment. Hobbit, really? Oh well, it was better than some of the other nicknames he gave her. Plus, if she was a hobbit that meant she could have as many meals as she wanted. Yep, thats right, Mattie actually knew what a hobbit was despite living her entire life within the confines of the camp and New Rome. There was a book store in New Rome and she may have visited a handful of times, not any more than that though. Wouldn't want people suspecting her of slacking in the training department.

"I'll redeem it the same I redeem all my others. Make you go broke in one day." Mattie said with a slight smile before standing up straight, she was always one to make sure she had good posture. She hated slouching, besides, it made her look more formal and in charge with a good posture and that was what she was going for. "And, you're late. What did you do, get lost?" Mattie asked sarcastically, giving her older brother a hard time, as was her job. Besides, she could have gone worse. She could have asked if he was distracted by a girl, which was really tempted to do but decided against it. She wasn't sure how he would react to that one. Shrug it off maybe and avoid the topic of females for the rest of their time together? Well, that wouldn't work for Matties other motive of finding out just what exactly was going on with his love life. She didn't want to be the last to know something like she was when he proposed to his last girl. Then again, given what all was going on, she couldn't be mad at him for that. Still, she wanted to know and would hold him at sword point till her told. Okay, maybe not that extreme, especially since Remus was a way better fighter than her things to him having practically double the years on her in the legion. Details, who needed them. Mattie walked over to the swords and picked it up, swinging it in a control manner, making a dissatisfied face before putting it back. "None of them are as familiar as my old one." Mattie half muttered, annoyed at the fact she outgrew her last one still.

Remus smiled silently as Mattie greeted Argentum. He remembered back when he first was made prator, not long after she came into service, and immediately she seemed to take to the idea that he had dogs now. As did he, really. I loved Argentum and Aurum. They were loyal like real dogs, just minus the showing any sort of emotion. That he knew of, they never even wagged their tails. He sort of hoped that the one Nova was working on – only after she got a bit better, of course – would show a bit more emotion than these two.

He chuckled at her idea. “You would do that. I certainly owe you enough. “ Argentum padded back over to Remus when Mattie stopped paying him attention. Remus checked his watch and shook his head. “I am not late. I am perfectly on time. Don’t blame me just because you got here early.” He knew she was just being, well, being Mattie, so he didn’t take her too seriously. Not to get him wrong. He took his sister plenty seriously, but he could certainly tell when she was just intentionally or jokingly trying to get to him. “I would have been early had the toilet not tried to eat me,” he added in jest. To be honest, he would do just about anything – strike that, he would do anything – for his little sister. The same went for Charlie, even though he rarely talked to her. The truth was, thanks to that, he was just closer to Mattie in general. She was annoying in a different little sister way. Yet he could tell that Mattie at least looked up to him, and that made him feel like a real older brother, a feeling which, come to find, he really enjoyed. Not because it gave him power or fed his ego, but because he felt like… it was hard to explain. She looked up to him despite knowing all his flaws. They had each other’s backs.

He walked over closer to her, stopping far enough away not to be in the way of her practicing, and nodded. “I remember being your age. I went through four swords in just as many years. It sucked. But then you stop growing and at least so far as I can tell, you find that one sweet spot of a balance and don’t have to get a new sword again unless you break it. So it’s worth getting through the tough years for, trust me.” He picked up one of the swords, obviously out of balance for him, and took it by the blade and offered it to her. “Don’t worry, we’ll find you one. Here, try this one.” For the heck of it, he picked up a bigger sword to test himself. Hey, while he was in here, he couldn’t exactly help but play with the toys. Force of habit.

Mattie gave a slight, short laugh at his comment. Yes, that would be something she would and she would probably do it, but not to the extent to make him broke. But definitely to the extent where it would cost him a whole day out of the office and to ruin his diet by eating a whole bunch of junk food and having fun. She was still a kid, sure, she loved training, but she liked having fun with her family too. Especially since it seemed all the family she had gotten close to had died. Her mother first, Valerie second. If anything had happened to Remus in the war, she wasn't sure exactly what she would have done. Third times the charm to a mental breakdown, right? "Early is on time and on time is late. Therefore you are late, and don't blame the innocent toilet on your lack of punctuality." Mattie joked at him, continuing to give him a hard time.

She listened to him and the only thing she got out of that is the reminder that Remus was old. Well, compared to her at least. Maybe for his next birthday she should just give him a card with "You're old" written all over it and the inside to say something like "Yeah you are, now deal with it." Heck, if she couldn't find one with that, she would make it herself. But his birthday was so far away from right now. Not fair, by then she might not remember this ingenious idea. "Yeah, yeah. Got it old man. Still, growing up takes too long." Mattie said as she put the sword in her hand back up and grabbed te one that Remus offered. It was a bit too heavy, it probably wasn't for Remus and she tried not to show it on her face as she lifted it up and moved it around before making a face and putting it back.

"Plus growing up means you have to do adult stuff. Like date people. Oh, which reminds me. Remus, are you dating Eve yet?" Mattie brought up nonchalant as she picked up another sword and tested it out, this was seemed pretty close to balance. Maybe just a little off, if she couldn't find one better she would have to go with it. "Because some Venus girl told me she saw you two being really... close." Mattie added before looking up at her brother for clarification. Honestly, he should have suspected word might have gone out on the rumor mill and for it to eventually hit her ears. She just wanted to know why she had to wait on the rumor mill for this one. And honestly, she really wanted to know her brothers own feeling on this. She was also a Mars kids, she knew relationships were weird, okay, so she thought it was extremely weird and that may be because she was still young and it wasn't a top priority for her at the moment. She honestly hoped it never became a priority for her.

Remus smirked. Oh, Mattie. He loved her to death, but she was a little annoying. Then again, wasn’t that her job as a little sister? Probably. He’d still do anything for her anyway. Lose a whole day and gods only knew how much money to spending time with her when she finally took him up on all those promised hang outs. There certainly were enough of them to do some real damage. “Then my watch must be slow.” He was joking, of course, but no harm in having a little fun with his sister. No doubt she would have no problem at all dismissing that made up excuse too.

He shook his head at her little taunt and held back a chuckle. “No, if I was that old, I’d let loose a hundred balloons tied to my house and float away with an odd little kid and a talking dog.” Yep, that was right. He knew about a select few random Disney and Pixar movies. Wouldn’t Felicity be proud of him referencing Up? But she wasn’t here. He didn’t dwell on that one. He was starting to get pretty good – if he said so himself – at stopping those thoughts in their tracks. Usually it involved thinking about training or Eve or… well, no, that was pretty much it. Happy thoughts. Which was why he also tried to avoid worrying about Josh. It was hard though. But even now he pushed aside those thoughts. Which left him with wondering what Eve would think if she caught him making Up references. Or, for that matter, what the young daughter of war in front of him thought about it. Eve… she might think it was cute or something. He hoped. Cute was sort of good, right? That being said, he’d probably skewer anyone else besides Eve who called him cute, but coming from her he imagined it wouldn’t be horrible. Mattie, on the flip side, yes, he could see her rolling her eyes at him for what he just said. In fact, if she didn’t, he would be surprised. “Say, speaking of movies, there’s one coming out soon about World War 2. I think it’s rated R, but when it comes out on DVD nothing stopping me from renting it and maybe you and I can have a movie night if you like?” Knowing Mattie, she wouldn’t much mind if it was rated R, at least not for violence. It was apparent the people who rated films were not Romans, seeing as their threshold for violence was so low. He could do without the nude scenes, but this was a war movie with a cast of all guys that he knew of, so chances were there wouldn’t be any sex scenes. Not in a tank behind enemy lines. Yikes.

He had to admit there for a minute his mind had sort of strayed a bit, but she was soon talking again, so he brought himself back to pay attention. Roughly six seconds into paying attention, he found himself flushing a nice shade of red. “Not nosy at all, are we? Well, so far I can’t really answer that. I asked her out, yes, but she didn’t really accept or decline. She just sort of… well, she said it was just dinner. So I don’t really know what’s going on. You’ll be the first to hear though once I figure it out.” Then, seeing as this was Mattie and she seemed to be a professional at embarrassing her big brother, she made him blush even more when she continued. “Mattie! Stop snooping, runt.” His tone was teasing, though. He would probably be paying really close attention too as soon as she got into dating guys. Take them out for the trial-by-sword. That was his job, after all. “It’s complicated, okay? But yes, I did ask her out. I’m just waiting on a full reply to it.”

Get a new watch if that one was broken. She rolled her eyes but kept her comments to herself. Always a comment back with Remus it was like he was five. Okay, no that was mean. She use to think it was funny and try to see how many excuses he could pull out of the air, but she was fourteen now, obviously way too old for it. She was officially a teenager and that mean not being a kid again, obviously. Got to love the way young teenagers think, acting like their so mature and adult like when in truth adults act like big kids.

She gave him a weird look at the mention of such a weird thing. She knew it was from a movie, but it was a movie she never watched which meant it was lame. Who would watch lame movies? Therefore, she rolled her eyes at him yet again, which honestly should have been expected if anyone knew Matilda Blair, of course if you knew her you would also know she would never let anyone call her Matilda, unless she was in trouble. Like, Remus could use it if he needed to be extremely serious with her, but just everyday use? No, she would rather punch you in the face for it. It was such a feminine name and gross. Mattie was more rambunctious and easier to yell out on the field. Two syllables were easier to yell out rather than three. Yet, she smirked at the second type of movie he mentioned. "Oh my gods, yes! It wouldn't be the first rated R movie I've seen. What's it called? What part of World War Two? The war in Europe or the Pacific? Because you know, both are equally important but everyone always focuses on Hitler, which wasn't even the main American focus. I mean yeah, what that idiot Hitler did was stupid, I blame his dad honestly. Nothing good ever came from those demigods. But the war in the Pacific, thats fun to learn about. Sorry, I... I really like World War Two...." Mattie ended up finishing with. In all honestly though, it was true, she owned a good number of books on the subject and always wanted to see the museums and monuments associated with it. Not to mention the movies, her most recent favorite being Monuments Men, that was a fantastic movie.

Mattie scuffed. Why was things complicated? If you liked someone and they liked you back what made it so hard? "I don't see whats so complicated. It's simple. She's likes you, you like her." She clapped her hands together. "You two should be like this, inseparable by now. She needs to hurry up and reply. You two have practically been meant for each other since day one, plus I like her better." Mattie said, which, if anyone took her clapping her hands together to mean anything beyond being inseparable should shake their head. THat was just her form of reiterating her point. Mattie doesn't know the exact things that happen in a relationship and to be honest she rather liked it that way because if it wasn't as simple as what she said and it was complicated it gave her all the more reason to not want one.

There she went again, rolling her eyes at him. Seriously, her eye muscles must be hugely strong with how much she rolled those eyes of hers. He chuckled. “Keep rolling your eyes like that and they’ll screw right out of your head.” Then she went all excited about his idea for a movie night and that sort of made up for likely being labelled lame and or stupid in her mind. He had a reputation to keep up here. “Well then, I expect you to give me the honor of treating you to said first R movie. It’s called “Fury”. From what I saw, it looks like it’s about the German front, so sorry about that. The trailer made it look like a lone tank got through the lines and had to face like a ton of German soldiers on their own. Something like that. Looks good. Lots of fighting, so you’ll probably be transfixed the whole time. Not that I wouldn’t be too.”

Then the topic changed and gods, how he wished they could still be talking about war and its related presence in film. That was at least easy. Explaining to his runt sister how dating was actually a little more complicated than ‘you like her, she likes you’. Yeah, not so much. “Oh, you just wait. Your day will come and you’ll come back to me and tell me how right I am.” Sibling joking (sort of). He raised an eyebrow when she smacked her hands together as an example. “Mattie, it’s not like that. I mean, yeah, she does need to reply before I go grey, but it wasn’t that long ago that I asked her, so I’m not really worried. Just have to give her time.” Then he stopped short and let out a sharp laugh that he wasn’t sure was really all that comical or not. “You like her better, do you? Maybe we should change the rules so that little sisters set up arranged marriages for their older brothers then, huh? As long as turnabout is fair play.” Not that he would use that to his advantage or anything. No, he loved her too much to wish her ill. “Then again, as your older brother, I do reserve the right to interrogate any of your suitors by word and sword. And, oh, I intend to do that.” He chuckled. Second key tactic: when cornered, turn it back on your foe. Sure, Mattie wasn’t really his enemy like at all, but he could still turn it back on her like a good annoying older brother. “And since you’re snooping in my life, I’m also allowed to snoop in yours. So if I hear anything about a boy having a crush on you, or vice versa, he’s getting an invite to the Principia.” Just keep her focused on that and no more talk about who he should be hooked up with, right?

Mattie couldn't help but laugh at his reactions to what she was saying. "I'm all for setting up my older brothers love life. But, you're not allowed to do mine just because of the fact that I don't plan to have one, ever." Mattie said proudly. It wasn't like she was just saying that, it was honestly what she believed at the moment. Love was stupid and she was better off without it. She saw the pain love could cause and it looked worse than any battle inflicted wound, which made no sense to her so she stuck with the things she knew for certain and that was battle. After all, they were in a legion to fight, not hook up and make babies.

"Which means you don't get to invite anyone to the principia, ever. Sorry, not sorry." Mattie said with a laugh. Any attempt of turning this on her wasn't going to work. Besides, it wasn't like there were many guys her age that she even thought were cute. That and she tended to scare them with her aggressive nature when it came to battle. In fact she had made one guy in her cohort cry when she was yelling at him. She didn't intend to make him cry but she couldn't help him if he was a wimp and couldn't take some hard criticism. She wasn't going to sugar coat anything. If they wanted to have someone chastise them nicely maybe they should mess up in front of Clare, not her. Oh well. She didn't care what they thought. Sure she would help them out if they had a problem but her priority was making sure that her cohort was strong enough to survive a war with the least amount of causalities. Which this task was a lot harder than it looked since they were one of the bottom rungs of the principia. But Mattie tried.

"But about that movie, we should definitely go. And you should pay for everything and let me get an extra large popcorn with soda. Puh-lease?" Mattie asked giving her best little sister pout that she could manage. After all if they did end up going to the movies she wanted to make an event of it and since she follows a strict diet during her time in the legion whenever she gets to spend a day out why not pig out?

Remus chuckled and shook his head. “Oh, Mattie, you’re adorable when you’re in denial.” He was teasing her, of course. Girl like her probably hated being called adorable, which, naturally, was why he said it. “I bet you already have a crush, don’t you?” She didn’t of course. He knew that well enough. She was Mattie. She was young and weird and bullheaded. Boys to her were like rodents or something. Small and insignificant. He wouldn’t be surprised if he was the only male she even talked to. She was just kind of weird like that. Then again, he really couldn’t talk. He’d been through that phase too. He used to think girls were gross and stupid. Even his sisters for that matter, though he at least talked to them. The other girls, no way. They were simply too weird. Then it changed to seeing them as fellow soldiers, then, well, easy enough to narrow it down to one word: Felicity. That note she’d sent him all that time ago confessing she liked him? That had kind of been the tipping point for him; made him think. So really it was all on her head, in a good way though. Well, until the war. Now he was in a conflicted spot, and part of him admitted he might just be trying to fill in the gap that she left behind. He quickly shoved his thoughts somewhere else.

“Oh, but I will. You just wait. Any guy that looks at you funny gets a big brother talk.” Was he teasing again? Maybe. Maybe not. He was protective of her, but he knew better than to scare off all the guys. He did want her to be happy. Sure, she wasn’t ready now for a boyfriend, but someday she might be, and he didn’t want to be the one to ruin it for her. He’d act tough, but he did care. He wouldn’t go for blood the first time a guy asked her out. Just, you know, only that way if he dared hurt her. Then, yes, he would go for blood.

Oh gods, there was her trademark little sister pout. She was seriously a pro at that. She could kick someone’s butt one minute, then wrap dear big brother around her finger. Yep, no guy who ended with her stood a chance. He chuckled. “You’re determined to make me go broke, aren’t you? Alright, fine, my treat. I’ll throw in a box of candy too if you promise to share.” Yep, he was s sucker for his little sis.

Mattie huffed and gave him an "are you kidding me?" kind of look. Seriously, like there was anyone for her to even crush on at the moment, let's be real. Heck, this time last year she was actually considering the hunters with how much she thought guys were gross but then she realized she wouldn't be able to hang out with her big brothers and that was saddening and was the main reason she had decided to stay where she was in the legion. That didn't mean she thought the prospect of liking any guy was any less gross, she still thought that way and while it was true she thought Nova and Lance were cute she thought of being in that situation would actually freak her out a bit.

"Well it's a good thing you won't be pulled away from your work to do that, now isn't it." Mattie said as she gave a winning smile. Finding herself on top in this argument. Remus might be jumping from girl to girl these days but that doesn't mean she'll ever be that way with guys. Even if Remus had only been with two girls as far as Mattie knew she wouldn't even ever be with one guy. So ha! Take that big brother. He wouldn't ever have to talk to anyone if she had a say in it and she was determined to put her foot down in this conversation.

Her lips stretched into a huge grin as she suddenly hugged him. He really knew how to make things awesome. Even if he did tease her, oh well that was his job, just like it was hers to be nosy. "Deal! Oh, you can invite Eve too if you want! And you two can actually call it a date. But don't worry, I'll give the supervision to make sure you guys don't do anything gross like make out or something. Because....ew." Mattie said as she shivered a little bit at the thought of watching her brother make out with anyone. Even if it was with Eve who she liked a lot better than his last choice in companion. But she could seriously defeat and kill off the ugliest of monsters and not even gag but the thought of watching her brother lock lips with some girl made her stomach churn and her face pale. Seriously how could he even manage to do that! It was disgusting.

Remus smirked at that look she gave him. Ah, good old Mattie. In all seriousness, though, he hoped she did someday find someone. She was great at being independent, but he wanted to see her as happy as could be. Okay, so he’d been happy before he met Felicity himself, but now he was doubly happy. Something that would probably be hard to convey to an annoying little sister. He didn’t want to be the annoying ‘I told you so’ kind, but he did want to be right here. Then again, this was Mattie. No telling what would make her truly happy. Probably fighting someone. Second thought, that did sound like fun. But he digressed.

“You say that now.” Sure, he’d just decided that it might not be all bad if she never found someone. The whole finding happiness elsewhere and him not having to threaten some guy’s life if he made her cry sort of thing. However, that did not mean that he would not tease his baby sister. It was a sign that he loved her, right? Right. Ooh, idea. He smirked. “Maybe I should hold auditions. Interview every guy here reasonably aged and see if anyone is worthy of you. Then we can make it into one of those gods-awful reality television shows. I can see it now: Mattie Blair is… The Bachelorette.” He finished off his bit with a good laugh. Yep, she was going to kill him.

Then the topic changed and bam, he was strangle-hugged. He smiled – a genuine smile – as he hugged her back. He teased her all the time, but he really did honestly love her. Whenever he decided to retire, he’d put in a strong work for her taking his place. He knew it was something she really wanted, and he wanted to do anything to help her get it. She would be a good leader. He had every faith in her. He chuckled. “Nah, I’m kind of thinking this should be just you and I. So no worries on making out. Just me buying you candy and popcorn and us stuffing our faces and watching a movie. How does that sound?” He ruffled her hair and grinned. “Well, tomorrow I only have something in the morning, til about 11. We could go after that if you’re free. Check showtimes and if we’re not in good time for a showing, switch to the Barney And Friends film. Kidding, probably go grab some chow or ride something at the boardwalk if you want.”

Mattie wrinkled her nose at the thought of her brother holding auditions for someone to become her boyfriend or husband. It was weird. Plus, it wasn't fair. She didn't get to hold auditions for who would be his girlfriend. Honestly, if she had him and Eve would have been dating years ago. Oh well, at least they were together now and he was happy. Honestly this was the most relaxed she had sen her older brother in awhile and that was definitely saying something. "The Bachelorette? Please, sounds like same lame show Venus and her descendants would binge watch. Count me out. Plus, you're not allowed to do that. I didn't get to do that with you so obviously it would be unfair. Duh." Mattie stated like the whole thing was completely obvious and that Remus was obviously an idiot, normal little sister mindset of course.

Mattie smiled and nodded her head at his comment. "Yeah, the extra large popcorn with extra butter and then the biggest thing of candy and oh! A super large drink. Puh-lease?" Mattie asked as she did her best little sister pout on him again. Not that she would eat it all herself. She had full intention on haring with him. She couldn't' eat it all if she even wanted to. True, gaining weight wasn't important to her, she would burn it off with all the training she did. That was her secret for staying so small. Anyone who actually saw her eat would wonder why she wasn't in the infirmary for obesity problems. She ate like there was no tomorrow and then trained until tomorrow. It all worked out in the end for her.

"Deal. Though I know how disappointed you'll be at missing your beloved Barney. But I'm just too mature for those silly childhood shows nowadays." Mattie said as she tried her best to make her voice sound mature but she couldn't hold it as she broke out into a grin laughing some. It was just so unlike her. Plus, she was still at that balancing point between a kid and a full grown teen. She could get away with being coddled and a dork and everything else. Even if she only showed that side to her close family and friends. Everyone else just got to see her attempt of being a robocop like Remus. Though honestly, more like a scary military general. If she was a normal mortal she would definitely become a drill sergeant in the army.

Remus loved to taunt his little sister. It was all out of love, of course, but heck, she did it to him practically since they met. Especially in the love area. That Valentine’s Day event when he’d finally gone out with Felicity? Yep, never heard the end of it. Then all that rubbish that happened with Felicity? Same. Now with Eve. Thanks the gods Mattie was finally happy, though sometimes Remus questioned her because how could she really be happy for him when he still had awful nightmares about that war, about one instant in particular? About the feeling his seeing his fiancé die before his eyes? How could she be happy? Whatever. At least he wasn’t alone anymore. He tried not to dwell on the idea that it might just be fall back, going to Eve. He had to believe that it was real. He had to love her.

He turned his attention back to the annoying little brat in front of him. “I wouldn’t be surprised if it is, actually. And hey now, I am to allowed, Miss Judging Her Brother’s Love Life. I’m sure if you had the chance, you’d arrange a marriage between me and Eve right this minute, wouldn’t you? Thus, I am within my rights to hold auditions. Ha.”

Thankfully, the arranged marriages talk only went so far as soon as he brought up their common traits. War movies, usually rated R, for a – hold old was Mattie again? 15 or 16, going on Making Her Brother Feel Ancient? – whatever age she was kid and her go by the rules brother who would have to actually break a rule to get her in. However, it was a rather large loophole in the rules, so he liked to think that even one of his ego’s girth (and Mattie would probably argue, his butt’s too) could fit through. He grinned and feigned staggering back, shielding his eyes. “No, not the pout! My weakness!” He straightened and ruffled her hair. “Of course. If I’m going to go broke, it’s probably going to be on your head, and it better be a fun way to go.”

He chuckled and shook his head as she made a show about Barney. He really shouldn’t have brought that up if he valued not being teased with it. Mattie always had a way of making anything into her own personal ammunition. “That’s right. You’re the My Little Pony fangirl. Would explain why you have the pajama set for it.” He was teasing of course. She didn’t have the pajama set for anything that he knew of. Then again, he never saw her in her pajamas, so for all he knew she could have anything.
