Halloween was a very ancient holy day, it wasn't as many thought to be a conspiracy coming from the candy factories and stuff, No! it was ancient and sacred. some of the beliefs in it were as ancient or more than Rome itself, so why to to disgrace it? it was good that people wanted to celebrate it. dressing like whatever they thought it would be good, well Romans after all, they wouldn't fully know Halloween. There were monsters, wolves... ghosts. Yes Lares had been invited to the party too, everyone in New Rome. And the lares went there and had fun too, ironic... real ghosts in a Halloween Party.

Among them was one called Nicholas, Nick was anew lar, still was getting used to all of what being one meant, but at leat he wasn't alone, the one he loved, the one that he would do anything in the world and the underworld, his Kaylee, she was also a lar. She became one for him and he becamoe one for her... Romantic... too SHakespearean! together in that world between worlds, together they had been learning together how to... exist as a lar in New Rome and Camp.

Nick invited Kaylee to go to the party with him, he had told her it would be fun and they could mingle around letting campers know that they were there to help them and guide them. He firmly believe that with their short knowledge, they could be guides, at least warn the young ones about the behavior of their ancesters ad not to comit the same mistakes as the ones in the past. Nick was waiting for Kaylee, by the entrance.

Kaylee tugged her fingers through her hair to make sure it was at least a little presentable. Not much a lar could do to dress up, really. She was still stuck in the same clothes she’d died in. She’d never really thought to venture into seeing if it was possible to change clothes. Did lares have their own department stores or something? Oh, now she was curious. She’d love to take Nick to some lares department store and see his reaction. With his great taste in fashion, he would probably have a field day finding he could actually get a new outfit. The thought made her smile. Plus, she could get his advice on what she should get. After all, beyond the part of him having great taste, he was the only person anywhere whose opinion she really held that close to her heart. Which was one reason she had been nothing short of ecstatic when he invited her to this party. Going on a date with Nick was always a treat, but getting to go to a party too? That sounded like a lot of fun.

Given that, she practically ran (thank the gods for flat Mary Janes. Cute and easy to work in) to the party, only slowing down when she got within sight of the entrance. There he was. If her heart were beating, it would probably be speeding up right about now. He looked as handsome as ever. And he was waiting for her. She’d never stop thanking the gods that they could be together again like this. Losing him in that stupid war had been horrific. Sure, she had helped the camp during the day, but her nights were spend alone and miserable, wishing she could see him again. She took a deep – if unnecessary – breath to keep from getting the sniffles. Like the time he’d met her on Temple Hill the first time after the war, after he came back. She’d totally cried then. She was arguably a push-over when it came to that. She’d cried when she first saw Bambi for the gods’ sake. Though that had been from sadness, not the sheer joy she’d been crying from at Temple Hill. Now it was like every time she saw him was a time worthy of celebration.

Kaylee smoothed her t-shirt again, thankful she couldn’t feel the chill in the air, and walked up to him with a smile. “Waiting for someone?” She didn’t even bother waiting for an answer, though, but instead leaned up and kissed him softly, just briefly. “It’s good to see you. As always.”

Nick breathed deeply as he waited for Kaylee, he didn't need the air, he didn't even feel it going into his body because in fact his lungs didn't get air anymore. human reflects, that wa all. But needed at some points, he needed to remember what was to be alive, to help those who were still. He observed at the people walking in. Good people... he also noticed that the Praetor was there, his brother, Remus Stone. Some people thought it had been heroic what he had done about saving his life, but he thought that he had only done what was correct, saving the life of his brother.

that made him remember it, he looked down a moment and looked at his clothes, he still looked like a roman, well maybe a modern version of a roman Centurion. He was wearing dark jeans and black shirt the day he died, also over his common clothes of teenager, his full armor, the one that Rhiannon had helped him to get. The armor of the traitor, still it was Roman style. He had lost his helmet in battle, so he wasn't wearing it anymore, but the rest of his armor was there, including his sword. He smiled and thought that it was good, no matter what he would always be the roman soldier, part of the legion.

Suddenly he heard the angelical voice of Kaylee as she approached to him. He smiled at her and kissed her back when she did it. He held her closely, happy to check and double check that both being lares could touch each other. He looked at her face and smiled, she looked like an angel as always, pure and innocent. "Waiting for you, my always lovely half of my entire existence, my soul." he smiled a bit more and then nodded. "Well, it is a pleasure to have you again between my arms. Shall we... walk in?"

Being dead really wasn’t as bad as it sounded. Sure, there were things she missed out on, like, well, like breathing. Like any hope of ever having a family of her own. That sort. But all in all, it could be worse. Thankfully, Mors had agreed to let her come back. She would have been perfectly fine in being a spectator of her beloved as he grew old and had his own family without her. Sure, it would have stung at first, but knowing that he was happy would have made it worth it. However, as it turned out, the Fates had another thing in mind for him; something she was still getting over herself. She still remembered back to that moment, that horrible moment, when she had held him in her arms and watched him breath his last on that wretched battlefield. That had broken her. She had thought she had lost him for good. Where would he go? What would the judges say? Would they send him to Elysium for his heroic sacrifice? Or would they be pitiless and send him to the Fields of Punishment to suffer for leaving camp? Or would they just break even and send him to the Fields of Asphodel until his soul rotted away and he was nothing more than a lost nameless spirit? Either way, she knew that she was stuck here in the Legion and she would never see her beloved again. Somehow, though, Mors had answered her prayers in ways she couldn’t have imagined. It had never even occurred to her that he would want to come back to this place that held so many bad memories for him. Yet here he was in her arms. At the memory of it, she hugged him a little tighter and tried to breathe in his old familiar scent, which, of course, was no longer there, even if she could smell anymore. All the same, he was here with her, and that was what mattered.

She lifted her head from his chest and beamed at him. “Nick. My Nick. My everything. You say I hold your soul, but indeed it is you hold mine as well. How wonderful it is to be with you again.” She smiled at him fondly and reached up to hold the side of his face in the palm of her hand. To her, they could just as easily be far from this public event, just the two of them. For the rest of forever. His words, though, reminded her that the alone part was not the case at the moment. They were going to a party, which she had to admit, she was excited about. For a long time, since he had left Camp Jupiter, she had had no reason to be social beyond her duties here, both as legionnaire and then as lar. She laughed. “Of course, let’s go! After all, what is a proper Halloween party without ghosts?”

Nick looked at Kaylee and smiled, he held her arm as they walked into the party. He thanked the gods that he could still touch her. He had noticed that he couldn't touch the living ones, but other Lares and of course Kaylee, he could. It had been a blessing. He remembered when he had been alive and she had already died. when they had met, the few times she tried to save his already damned soul. they couldn't touch, not even a bare trace of his finger over her cheek, not a slight kiss from her sweet, soft lips on his skin. Nothing!! That had also helped his mind to get even more lost, because it helped him realize that she was really dead, he wasn't going to be able to be with her anymore, that after War passed, he would go to tartarus or the Fields of asphodel... but he would never be with her again.

"Look! Lance and his friend, the Vulcan girl. I think they are characters from a children's movie... right?" he said looking at them, they were Wall-E and Eve. "and over there... isn't that Ethan from fourth, with his girlfriend?" he smiled and then looked at Kaylee again. Mors and the judges had been too kind to him to let him be back and again with her. then as they walked some campers nodded at them, Evelyn from third, Julia from first, even Kyle the medic, was there too and smiled at him. Nick felt a bit of peace when he saw their looks at him, they didn't seem to be mad at him, but happy to see him again. "So... would you like to dance?" smiles at Kaylee and offers his hand to her.

Kaylee was more than happy to hold on to Nick’s arm as they walked together into the party. It had been horrible to be away from him while he was with Saturn. Finding him in that mess of a battle had been a blessing, but perhaps not at the time, considering she had done what a lar could do to hold her living beloved in her arms as he passed from his life. Not the most pleasant feeling. The odd thing was, part of her could touch him them. As his soul was separating from his body after the moment of death, she could feel it like a warmth in her arms, until Mors took him away. She had cherished the memory of that last touch so long. Then one day, he showed up again as a lar and she found her afterlife complete once more. Now she could fully touch him, embrace him, kiss him. They were finally together again. And it was wonderful.

She looked over to where he was talking about and smiled. “Aww, aren’t they sweet? I think you’re right too. Though I can’t place it. I haven’t seen a movie in-… well, a long time. Say, we should do that. You know, if we can.” She really wasn’t sure the complete rules of being a lar. Maybe they could like rent a movie and watch it that way? Where though? Before she could put much more thought to it, he pointed out another cute couple and she had to smile. “Aww, they look like they’re having fun. And great costumes.” She walked with him and smiled and waved at some of her friends as they passed. Everyone seemed to be having a good time, which was excellent. Then he caught her by (pleasant) surprise by asking her to dance. She smiled brightly. “Really? Of course!” She took his hand and bowed, then placed her free hand on his shoulder, waiting for him to take the lead.

the lights were perfect for the party, Halloween was dark and bright at the same time. It was a symbol of something that finished, like the Harvest time, that finished and you got then the opportunity to start new projects, new things, a new year in Nature. The lights and the whole decoration was that, not only the already comercial Halloween, but the ancient one, the traditional one. Maybe the kids from Trivia had something to do with it. He'll ask later to Erich, that was on third and Nick used to be his centurion. Then he continued walking with Kaylee by his side, he noticed other camper, people he used to know, people he was glad were alive and enjoying the party.

He smiled at Kaylee and held her close to him, he could feel her hand on his shoulder and the other on his hand. He brought her closer with his free hand placed on her waist line. the music was being played in the room, but for him it was far, like just a soft sweet accompaniment in the back of his mind. Looking into her eyes, the world simply dissapeared, everything was just about her. her eyes, her smile, her soft hair. "Remember last time we danced?" he asked and smiled remembering it. It had been almost 6 months before the past war, in fact a couple of weeks before she died. He had taken her to the lake and they had had a nice dinner in a boat in the middle of the lake, then they danced on it.

Kaylee was dead, sure, but she couldn’t be happier. After all, she was with Nick. Forever. Just him and her. Well, and their new jobs as lares, but that was just details. They were together. And at a party! Kaylee had never had horribly much occasion for parties, being as… not very social as she was. That and Camp Jupiter didn’t really have a lot of parties to begin with. But this, here with Nick as ghosts at a Halloween party? This looked like fun. She gladly held his hand and they walked in, looking around. This place reminded her of Ryan. He would love it here, just add a bubble machine and he’d be set to go. She smiled and waved at one of her newer friends that she was helping out regularly, a young daughter of Vulcan. She was sweet. Didn’t like to fight, so the war had her all jumbled up. That and the fact that her teacher had been brutally murdered had scared her at first. Poor thing. Hardly 13, she was. This war was new and frightening for her. But Kaylee would be there for her.

But first things first: this dance. She smiled like a school girl with a huge crush as she looked into his eyes. This was so perfect. Everything about him was perfect. Every little detail. She took a moment to absorb them all, like perhaps this might be the last time she could look at him, though thank the gods it wasn’t going to be that way. She let out a soft laugh at his question. “How could I forget? Every moment I spent with you was the most romantic and wonderful thing in the world. That night especially. I thought I might fall in, but I knew as long as you were there with me, it would be okay.” She reached her hand up from his shoulder and brushed his soft cheek. It was cold, since he was dead, but to her it was as warm as though he still had blood running through his veins. It was refreshing and familiar.
