He hadn't expected much from a visit to that depressing place called New Rome, but for heavens sake it looked like a ghost town compared to how it was before. He heard there had been two wars in the past three years, which he guessed was why all that fighting had happened in New York not too long ago. Yet Tessa survived all that. The girl born from him and his first love, his first wife. She couldn't even hold a bow, the only thing she had gotten from either of her grandparents was her voice. He had been thankful for that at first, hoping monsters wouldn't come for her, and the day she'd have to go to the Wolf House would never come. He knew sending her away in the first place had been a selfish decision. He would admit that to himself at least, though not to anyone else. He was so young, a bit foolish, and went along with what the producer had suggested. He knew now that man had been just as selfish, wanting more time for him to be on set. Wanting to have more time for him to go to other movie releases and interviews. Wanting to give him some kind of tragedy so he looked better to the media. Yeah, Tomas knew all of that now. After the legion killed his little girl.
Tessa Yates was still alive, he knew that. He saw her, heard her amazing voice again. Also the son of Venus had seen her eyes, the brokenness in them. It spoke of seeing horrors no one should. Even before that he knew his daughter was gone, that the legion would train the compassion out of her. The same they did to everyone else. First hand experience in what the legion did to a person, though he had loved that daughter of Apollo she was a legionnaire too. He couldn't stay with her, and so they drifted apart. That girl he saw in the market place was not his daughter. She was not the sweet innocent baby girl he once held on stormy nights. The girl who would cry just because he said he was disappointed in her. She was a beast trained by the legion, and that was all she was now. He had seen some of the improvements in the condition of the people, and the amount of cultural diversity it began to hold. The food places where marvelous, but it was still New Rome. Still Camp Jupiter. Full of Romans, and their harsh mentalities.
He wasn't fond of the idea of going back to his wife and daughter with his mentality about him. It rubbed off on him, he fell back into the soldier mind set for a little while. Harden your heart, don't feel. Fight. He needed a place to unwind, and what better place than Las Vegas? Where you could blow over a thousand dollars in one night. He could find the new guys easy, getting money from them with only a little trouble. He didn't want to have anything to do with that Lotus Casino, it looked nice but he heard so little review on it. It couldn't have been any good. Which was his general look on life, stick with the popular places, everyone goes there and gives reviews. It has to be good, or it'll shut down. Several drinks later he started loosing money instead of making any, so he stumbled outside, putting his face into the cold water of the fountain. Up he came with a gasping breath, and soaked hair.
