Well, this sucked. He’d had to leave Felicity behind due to work, but not just any work. A summons from the Fates. Usually, one could bank on that being bad. Honestly, he usually got along with the Fates, since they were all about fair play too. Those who do wrong, earn punishment, according to the Fates. Those who break their word, also deserve punishment, according to Orcus. They frequently overlapped. He worked with the Fates much over his years. They were… well as friendly with each other as anyone could be with those three. But a special summons? Well, forgive him if he was cautious.
And with good reason. As he left their… ah, residence… he was less than pleased. He didn’t have his cane at the moment, since he was in his Underworld form. The Fates were more used to that, so the moment he left Felicity, he’d changed. Now he was tempted to change back immediately just for that therapeutic clicking noise. Eyes that were a startling mixture of colors narrowed as he walked – no, trudged – without his usual confidence toward… Where was he going? What was he going to do? He knew what he had to do, but… he really wasn’t looking forward to it. He stopped by Cerberus’ stand and spent all of about a very distracted five minutes trying to get it off his mind, but it only nagged him further. So he did what he was supposed to do.
He went home. To Felicity. It was time to share the bad news. He decided to walk there, since he was really not wanting to get this in progress. This was going to be bad. Every fiber in his eerily gold body was telling him not to do it. He couldn’t. It was her. How could he do this? But he had to. The Fates had made that painfully clear. However, they were at least a little merciful. He got a choice. Bad, terrible, or downright cruel. Obviously, he would go with the least harmful one. It was just a matter of deciding what that would be.
Finally, he got to the familiar building and – odd though it felt – knocked. After all, he didn’t want to catch Felicity off guard. He gave it thirty seconds, then went on in. “Felicity?”
