Planting Roots {Clare}

Jason had sent a message to Clare earlier in the day asking him to meet her at a specific address in New Rome. It seemed like a really vague residence and he was sure he might grow confused once she found herself in the residential district of New Rome, but he had a surprise. I mean, he had been debating it for awhile. But gods, he was married to a gorgeous woman and he couldn't even spend every night with her due to them being in seperate lodgings. Sure, Clare had spent the nights a few times in the Principia but Jason wanted something that was theirs, private. He knew Remus had Felicity's apartment. Didn't he deserve to have a place with his beloved?

So that was what he had done. It wasn't much. Just an apartment and it didn't have any furniture. But hey, they could find that togther. Already he was worried she might not even want the apartment. It was one of the really good ones in New Rome and if he wanted to visit her cousin Felicity she was just around the corner. He thought it was a great place. A few kids lived nearby with their family and the shops were just a couple of blocks down the road. It was a sweet little place.

Jason had has these thoughts through his head as he walked to the location himself, arriving there before Clare, which was good. He didn't want her to just be standing there all alone and confused. She was his adorable little Clare Bear. Gods, he still couldn't believed they were married a couple of months now. Still feels like it was yesterday that he saw her walking down the aisle. He'll never forget that moment. It was the moment he felt like he finally done it. Found the girl of his dreams and held on to her.

Clare looked over the note he’d left her one more time with a smile before pocketing it. She checked the mirror in the bathroom one more time to make sure she looked presentable. Sure, some joked that once you were married, you could more or less let yourself go, but she didn’t believe in that. She wanted to always look nice for him. Always wanted to dress up for him as if it were their first date. The thought of which took her back all that time to that actual first date. Him standing there waiting for her for the Valentine’s Dance, looking so dashing. She’d acted a little silly, she realized now, but she’d matured since then. Now she was a centurion. Now she was married. She was setting off in the next stage of her life, even if she still was a legionnaire. It was all so exciting. Oh, that memory of their big day, seeing him smile as she walked up the aisle towards him. It was so perfect. And their whole honeymoon together just being together. The sights of New Zealand were beautiful, of course, but nothing compared to his eyes. Or, you know, the rest of him too. But his eyes…

Anyway, she clipped her hair back on one side and smiled to make sure she didn’t have anything in her teeth or something unpleasant, then set off to meet her husband. The walk to New Rome was thankfully uneventful. She passed other training cohorts, but Jason was good enough to check her schedule to know she hadn’t had to leave the cohort to Mattie for training to come see him. He’d asked her on an off time. He was so thoughtful like that. So she got to Terminus and that went smoothly as she never carried her gladius into the city and he well knew that. She never gave him a hard time, so he usually returned the favor. She pulled the paper from her pocket as she entered the city and headed in the direction he’d told her to. Odd thing was: she knew this route. It was the one she usually took to visit Felicity. But the address on the paper wasn’t Felicity’s, she knew that much. She paused at a little shop that had the most intricate paperweights in the corner of the display window. Things that looked, odd as it sounded, really rather Roman and not that prissy missy. And, well, Jason was always tied up with paperwork, so…. She smiled and ducked into the shop quickly and picked out the best one and bought it for her favorite guy, then headed out to meet said favorite guy.

Back to the puzzle of where she was going, though. She followed to the address, completely confused. Why was she in the residential area? This made zero sense. She held tight to the present bag with one hand and the paper with the other, until finally she got there and saw him. Sure, she was still confused like crazy, but he was there, so it couldn’t be that bad. She hurried to him and hugged him tight just a moment, then pulled away and held out the bag. “I got you something on the way. Come on, open it! Then you can tell me why on earth we’re here.” She added with a laugh.

Jason had been lost in his thoughts, thinking about quite a lot of thinks at once that it wasn't until he heard the running footsteps toward him that his focus was taken away. He turned toward the woman he swore looked better than Venus and held on tight to his wife just as tightly as she held onto him. These were his favorite hugs. These tiny moments of just holding her small frame within his arms. Just one of the many reasons why he was happy that she agreed to marry him and share forever together.

But of course, the hug ended, they always do. He beamed at the gift as he opened up the bag to look inside. "It's great, though makes me worry about how much paperwork I do that paperweights seem a good gift now." He said joking while giving a chuckle at the end. He leaned in to kiss her cheek. "Thanks Clare Bear. And as to why I'm here, well, figured I'd surprise you." Jason said with a smirk. Not elaborating on his plan at al, mainly because he was still trying to figure out the best way to announce it. I mean he had a couple of ideas but he had one he was really wanting to try, even if it turned out with her mad at him.

He pulled at a bandanna from the back of his pocket. "You have to put this on. Trust me, I won't let you run into a tree, maybe. Kidding! I love you." Jason said. Okay, maybe he was in a teasing and joking mood today but c'mon, he was really happy about what he had done. It was a celebration. He just silently hoped that CLare would see it that way too. I mean, they had been married a few months and he hated the nights were he would have to fall asleep without her in his arms. It just wasn't fair. Sure, legions fault and all but they both only had about a year left so, why not? They could afford it. So, here goes nothing. "It's a surprise, if you're wondering. And hopefully you'll think it's a good one. Just, put the bandanna on, please?" Jason asked, giving a little pout as he looked at her like a lost little, begging puppy. Yes, he was a tad of dork, but only really around her. If Ethan saw him like this he would never live it down.

Jason hugs were the best. It was official. Even with his artificial arm, he still gave the best hugs ever known to man. Which meant she was very reluctant to let go, but there was still the fact that she wanted him to open the present she'd gotten him. Hopefully he liked it. So she pulled away from the hug and pressed the bag into his hands and beamed as she waited for him to open it. His words made her laugh. "You can use a paperweight just as easily on one paper. Perhaps you could use it for the pile of love letters I've been working on for you." She grinned and nudged him with a laugh.

Oh, a surprise? Her expression lit up. Last time he pulled a stunt like this, they went to the aquarium and she left with a ring on her finger. So it fell to reason that she would be a little giddy. "One of these days I'll come up with a good surprise for you! But alright, this time I'll let you have it," she teased. And a bandana? She took it from him curiously. "No, I know you're not going to walk me into a tree. Probably more like a brick wall." She laughed, definitely joking. With a smirk, she leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Love you too."

She fidgeted with the bandana. "So I don't even get a hint? Not a teeny tiny little hint at all? Except that it's a surprise?" She made a pouty face for good measure. And then he had to go and trump her. Seriously, Jason was a pro at this. He made her own attempt look bad. She resisted the urge to hug him again. Actually, no, you know what? Forget that. She hugged him again, and threw in a kiss for good measure. Still with her arms wrapped around his neck and the bandana dangling from her hand, she smiled at him. "You know you're adorable, right? In the manly sense, of course. I'll keep your secret though. Won't tell a soul you're secretly a big teddy bear. But for right now..." She let go and took a step back, "Time for me to stop seeing things." It took her a moment or five to successfully tie the thing around her head, seeing as it kept getting tangled in and yanking on her hair and she would have to pull it free and try again. Finally, she got it secure and reached out a hand to where she'd last seen her husband, managing to accidentally hit him on the chest. "Sorry, sorry."
