Nova knew that she should had been crazy, more than crazy! maybe she should only tell Mattie that everything was a weird joke, that she was ok with being in the forge and not fight at all, but Mattie would knew more than that, she would know that Nova was only feeling fear in that moment, fear in a legacy of Bellona wasn't right, she shouldn't feel it! She breathed deeply and tried to calm down. It was ok to be scared, Bellona herself told that to Nova only a night before that day.
She had been so kind to visit her while she was finishing some stuff in the forge. She told her about many battles, many occasions where she had been really scared, but she used that fear to be faster, stronger and even scarier herself, never let the fear drive her steps, but only use it as a fuel. Nova had listened to her words and she had tried to tell her why she was scared, but she just couldn't. She had told Mattie, but telling Bellona was something different. Yet, there goddess seemed to know what was hidden in Nova's heart. Shetold her how proud she was of her, not only for what she did in war, but about what she was doing in that moment and what she would do in the future.
Nova drove her wheel chair into the field and breathed deeply, she was trying to calm herself down also wondering what did Bellona meant with that about the future! Maybe she should leave some mangoes on Apollo's Altar or look for the augur... or maybe just focus on her present and beat that fear up.
Mattie was tired. She had barely gotten any sleep in the previous nights. Not only was she trying to make up tactics and training for the cohort but at the same time she was trying to come up with training for one of her favorite family members. Nova was by far her favorite cousin and seeing her in pain in that wheelchair and knowing that her self confidence was going down with each passing day was painful to see. Therefore when Nova came to her asking Mattie to help her with training she happily jumped aboard. Who cared that she had other things that needed to be done. This took precedence.
Mattie made a huge yawn as she made her way down to the field of Mars. She had set up things to try out for training for Nova. She knew it would involve a lot of core and arm work. But she would try to help out as much as she can. It wasn't going to be easy, she knew that. But if anyone could manage it, it was Nova, by far. Therefore when she heard the familiar squeak of the wheels on her wheelchair she smiled widely and turned to greet her cousin. "Nova! Hey, are you ready for training today? I think I have several different ideas. I just hope I'm able to find one that you actually like." Mattie exclaimed excitedly before almost yawning again, which she covered up with her arm so it wouldn't contagiously affect her.
Nova was still deep inside her thoughts, what she would do, what she really wanted, why Lance wasn't speaking to her... Well that was something different, apart from whatever she had been meaning to do there that day! She needed to focus deeply in what she was about to do, she knew Mattie was her friends, her cousin and all, but also she was a fierce centurion and she was doing her a huge favor by not only by training her, but also by tinking a good set of exercises to use when she train her! So Nova wasn't going to let her down!
Mattie's voice brought her back to the place where they were and she smiled widely as she always did. she pushed her wheelchair a bit faster and stopped when she got to where Mattie was. "Yes!! I'm up for anything you thought for me!" she grinned and then took off the hoodie she was wearing, under it she was wearing a work out bra and tight exercising tanktop. then looked again at Mattie. "I also picked this from the library in the city, it says it has exercises to warm up for people like me." she said and then handed it to Mattie. She had also been thinking about it and looking for info, so maybe with what them both got, they could get to the right exercises for her.
"I also thought on asking Jason... but now that he is married I didn't want to bother him." She shruged. She had also wanted to know how well was his arm working, if it needed a twerk here or there. The plastic nerves, the oil in the synthetic veins of the arm, it was a very complex work. "So!! what will we do first?"
Mattie took the book and flipped through a few of the pages. Some of the stuff in it was familiar, she had planned to use some of the suggested material but still, she would have to be sure to read the book when she got the chance. Unfortunately, that chance was not now. Granted it was only the first day of their training so they had to figure out what worked best for Nova and they didn't have all day either so they had to be smart about how they went about this, nor did Mattie want to put her favorite cousin into the infirmary.
"Thanks, I'll be sure to read through it. And I'm sure Praetor Kyoto would have helped out too. Don't be afraid to bother him. Heck, if I didn't bother Remus to help with my training I would probably never get to see him. Plus, I think they enjoy the breaks they get from work to spend with family." Mattie said reassuringly to her cousin. She knew that it might be stress inducing to walk into the principia and ask one of the praetors to hang out. Heck, for the first two years she would do that with Remus she would almost talk herself out of doing it entirely, that's how stressed out the scenario made her, but now it's no problem.
"Alright, we should probably get started on training then. Don't want to waste the day away." Mattie said with a smile as she grabbed some weights off the ground. Now, eventually I'll have you on monkey bars but I want you to warm up your arms some. Go ahead and do twenty bicep curls, they're only ten pounds each so it should be no problem. Since you have limited mobility it's mainly going to be arm and core muscles that we can work with, which is good because that means if you're ever on the ground you can probably beat an attacker with some great wrestling." Mattie said, trying to get Nova excited about the entire thing. She was worried that Nova would still be a tad hesitant about it all, even though it was her idea, Mattie did not want her to give up. Not for one moment.

Nova was still very nervous, what if she couldn't do it? what if even when she tried it wasn't enough and Mattie got upset at her?! she was nervous at simply not being able to move her upper body as she wanted. sometimes the pain in her back was a blinding pain, But she hoped that at least in that moment in that day, she could perform whichever activity that Mattie had planned for her. She smiled as her friend spoke to her, it was nice to see that she had liked the book, but Nova sighed and tilted her head when she told her to look for Jason, to talk to him.
"Yeah, but Remus is your brother, I have no blood relation with Jason, I don't want to bother him. After all he has no reason to pay attention to... me" She was going to say 'a crippled soldier' but she didn't, she knew how much that would upset Mattie. But maybe she had a reason to talk to Jason, maybe something more to help him than her. his arm. "Maybe I can visit him, but only because he hadn't gone to the forge to get his arm oiled and checked." She smiled slightly at her cousin, then she looked at the weights and nodded at Mattie, she was right, her arms and chest muscles should be in shape before anything, also the ones on her back, but that was something Nova always forgot.
She thought that it was a waste of time to work on her back muscles, when they were useles. She didn't realize that maybe if they were strong, they could give a natural hard base for her injured spinal cord and bones. Maybe Jason would have told her so, if she had gone and talked to him. "ok... I can do it..." she said and started working as Mattie told her.
Mattie wanted to mentally kick herself. She knew that Nova and Jason weren't related but they acted like it at times so it kind of, well, Jason and Ethan weren't blood either but they called themselves brother. Mattie just figured it was something similar with Nova and Jason. Alas, she was found to be wrong. Yet, she smiled when Nova did come up with an idea to bother Jason. Of course he had forgotten, it wasn't easy to get the preators to pull away from their job. Mattie knew from the time she was younger and was annoyed when she couldn't bother Remus every other hour to train her or get ice cream or something. Man, those were the days where it was so much simpler. Everyone knew Remus could punch their face in and respected him as such and it was long before he would even think of dating. It was just Mattie and her big brother. Oh well, times change, even Mattie was growing up, having just turned fifteen last December.
"See, and that's something serious. He needs to make sure that's checked on and everything, right? See it's the perfect excuse to go and bother him and trust me, I'm sure he would enjoy the company and break from his monotonous day." Mattie said, giving her best friend a happy smile. Watching her closely as she started on the exercise. The one thing Mattie did not want to see Nova was do was push herself too hard. But yet, Mattie knew if she kept babying Nova it would annoy her. Sometimes it was really difficult to find that happy medium. So, instead of mentioning anything she just kept a close eye, the moment she saw Nova showing signs of difficulty they would take a quick break before switching it up. They will get through this.
