Books. There were probably a thousand of them here. Now that she was out of her summer evening class, it was time to do some personal research. She walked down the aisles, just for the fun of it. She knew this place by heart after that monster of a research project. She’d done it on her own specialty, Bipolar Disorder. Mostly because, well, she had it. So learning more about it helped her out, and she could also put her own perspective into the paper. It really did go pretty well. She got an A on it, so that was good. A B+ in the whole course. Not bad. She had been shooting for straight A’s, but night classes while in the Legion was pushing it.
She thought of her new friend, Mattie Blair. Hmm, that got her an idea. She made her way to the casual books section, most of them penned by people right here in New Rome over the years. It was a section she’d been to a couple times just to see what was there, and she thought it had the best chance of having just what she needed. She took about ten minutes to peruse the titles until she found one that it felt like it drew her right in. Nellie Pierce wrote it. She was still writing, though this had been her first book, Marie read in the intro. Back when she was still in the service she wrote it. She had been well known in her day as a rough and to the point centurion of third. And author! And this particular volume looked perfect for Mattie: “The Roman Girl’s Guide To Being Badass”. It gave Marie a good chuckle. It sounded just like her friend. Then again, Mattie didn’t need a guide, but flipping through the table of contents, it looked like it took it in a funny way too, as well as actual honest to goodness advice. And the info paragraph said she finished it when she was seventeen, so that was probably about right on target. Actually, she might read it too. She smiled to herself and headed off in her original direction to the psychology area.
