Sam loved technology. Since she’d grown up away from it, born in a time when to listen to a song meant to find a local performing musician. Well, she did like that, but she also rather liked the little music box – what did they call it? CD player? – that she’d gotten for her apartment. She’d used it to play some Transiberian Orchestra (another great new find) while she took a relaxing bath last night, then again while getting dressed this morning as she listened to Styx. That was a funny one. They were named after a river, yet they spoke nothing of it. Very curious. They were good though. If only she hadn’t been with the Hunters when they were popular, maybe she could have seen them in concert. Now she was toying with the idea of seeing if some of these more modern bands would be in the area any times soon. Maybe she’d ask Terry to go with her. That sounded fun.
Speaking of Terry, she was just getting off work when she smirked and slid a little note onto his desk in the office room where he did all his official paperwork and stuff for the coffee shop. The sun still had an hour or two before it set and it was brutally hot out, so she hurried back to her apartment and changed into her swimsuit and hurried to the lake. The note she’d left Terry had been a secret request for him to meet her there when he was available. They could watch the sun set over the glistening waters together. Or, for that matter, they could be in said glittering waters as it went down. Just in case he took a little longer to get there, she packed her backpack with paper and pen and class list for next year’s kindergarten and headed for the water. When she got there, not many were still there. Eating dinner or something. Oh, she should have thought to bring food. Maybe they could get a late dinner. Oh! Or she could invite him over after this and cook for him. She settled in the grass and pulled out the notebook and got to work writing welcome letters to all the kids who would be in her class in the fall, humming that one song from Fantasia where Mickey was the Sorcerer’s apprentice.
