It really was a wonder that he got permission for this. Good behavior or some such nonsense. It worked for him though. He had a metal mutt on his heels though, which was annoying. Oh well, whatever it took. He descended the stairs quietly. Or, it would be quiet without metal paws following. At least it wasn’t one of the praetors themselves. That would be infinitely worse. Here at least he got some privacy. That he knew of, these things couldn’t actually do much. The two coffees in his hands were awfully hot, but he wanted to bring one anyway. He was pretty sure that she hadn’t been given much in the way of proper food or the like down here. So that meant he was going to bring her coffee.
For a change he wasn’t wearing his overcoat, but considering it was June now, that was to be expected. He was, however, still wearing all black. He just preferred it that way. And formal, too. Not like a tie, heavens no, but not like a t-shirt either. Black slacks and polished shoes that made the softest of sounds as he walked. And a black button-up shirt with long sleeves. And, of course, his eye patch. Couldn’t exactly leave that one be, right? That one wasn’t optional. If he let light get into that damaged eye, well, it wasn’t pretty. Least it could do was a migraine and terrorizing whoever saw it. Come to think of it, only Evelyn’s mother had seen his damaged eye firsthand. It had made her go pale at the grotesque scene, but she was strong and hadn’t flinched… that much. Either way, though, he didn’t bother to let anyone else see it. Not even those he considered family anymore. He walked down the row of cells. “Audrey?”
