The End of The Rainbow { Amelia }

Rodrigo Moreno had absolutely no idea what he was doing with this armor. He wasn't able to put it on earlier and could not get it off now. Granted, him not being able to put it on earlier did let him see that beautiful girl again. She was the only person he ever felt like an idiot around. He couldn't keep his cool like he use to be able to do around girls. If Sabella saw him with the way he acted around her he had a feeling it would be the best ingredient to tease him with. He still needed to find her. He had asked around but most people didn't want to deal with a newbie but he had gained the information that she was here in the camp. He didn't know much else than that and hadn't had the freetime to seek her out. He hadn't realized this legion life would be that tough, though his time with Lupa did seem to be a preview. He barely made it out of there alive.

But anyways, with a grumbling stomach and armor still on he made his way into New Rome, nearly crapping his own pants at the talking head who yelled at him about the spare gladius hanging on his hip. He didn't know no weapons were allowed and that god had been frightening! But luckily he got through and with the small amount of money he had to spend in New ROme he bought a super soft white bunny rabbit baby toy. True, he never thought he would like someone who already had a kid but... there was just something about her, he wanted to get to know her, make her laugh, see that smile light up her face. Plus, her kid was super cute, even if she was drooling some in her sleep when he met her. Either way, he agreed to have dinner with them and with the toy in one hand as a present he waited at the fountain, that was where she told him they would meet up. Granted, he was a tad early but he didn't know what else to do and did not want to risk getting lost as this was the first time in New Rome.

“Please hush. Yvette, please!” Once more, she tried fruitlessly to get the passy in the baby’s mouth to try to calm her. No dice. She picked her up out of her high chair and rocked her back and forth. And Yvette screamed. “Come on, please?” Then that moment of give away. The baby yawned in the midst of her screaming. Aha! “I knew that warm bottle would put you out, missy. Now come on, just calm down and you’ll be happy and sleeping. Just fall asleep.” Rock, rock, rock. More yawns. Finally the wailing slowed and she stared up like there was something fascinating on her mother’s nose. Then the eyes got droopy. Then they closed, then finally she passed out. Amelia smiled and after a moment longer holding her, placed her gently in her stroller and headed out of the apartment for the elevator.

The moment the elevator moved, the crying started again and Amelia would be lying if she didn’t want to curse very loudly. So she got in the bag on her shoulder and fished out binky again, the one attached to a tiny blanket, and helped get it in Yvette’s mouth, which, thank the gods, calmed her down considerably. She smiled to herself at the small victory and exited the apartment complex.

She checked her watch. Okay, still time to spare. Only, as she walked to the fountain, her heart sank. There he was. Oh, she’d spot him anywhere, and not because the armor. Because he was so striking. And those eyes. And the features on his face. And his stance. She’d recognize him in a mime suit. She hurried over. “Rod! Oh, I’m sorry to make you wait!” And cue the fussing again. She sighed. “Aaaand, now you can see why I’m behind. So um… why are you still in your armor? I mean, not that you don’t look good in it, but aren’t you uncomfortable?” She tried to keep facing him as she knelt next to the stroller and retrieved the fallen – thankfully only to her lap – binky and tried to replace it. It worked momentarily, at least. There was that.

At the sound of the angelic voice he turned around smiled. There she was, even though most people said blondes were gorgeous he liked the darker hair, especially on Amelia, it had a way of making her eyes more striking and highlighting the prominent features of her face even more, which made him nervous and if he wasn't able to get a hold of himself he might not be able to talk clearly for he would be tripping over his words. "It's okay." He said with a slight chuckle. "I was early anyway, plus, I guess little ones are a bit of a handful." Rod said with a slight question in his voice, he never experienced life with kids that weren't his age since it was just him and Sabella, no younger siblings.

He glanced down at himself and even though he hated to admit he added sheepishly, "I didn't know how to take my armor off and got tired of wrestling with it, plus, I wanted to pick up a little present, maybe it will help with the crying?" Rod said as he brought the fluffy white stuffed bunny into view. He hoped that it was okay and Amelia wouldn't take it out of context or something. He just thought the little one would like it and okay yeah, he had a hunch that if the kid of the girl liked him it would make the girl like him more so he could spoil the little girl. That was okay, right? Besides, Amelia had told him that the girls father was a god so he imagined she was a handful to deal with alone and if a bunny could distract the baby for awhile, he figured Amelia might take it as a blessing. "I know it's corny and such and maybe cheap compared to what she might be use to but..." Rod ended with a shrug not wanting to admit he spent all of his first bunch of denarii on it. That was not something you would admit to the girl you liked.

Gods, he was handsome. And the sunlight gleaming off his armor (and his eyes) made him look like-… well, she would say a god, but she only liked a couple of them. He was better. Everything about him was perfect. Just seeing him, well, if she wasn’t hurrying behind a stroller all flustered and rushed, she probably would have gone all mushy or something. But as it was, she did at least blush for no apparent reason. “Okay, that’s good. I’d kick myself otherwise.” She gave him a gods are you so right smile and nodded. “Very much. But… kind of fun.”

She had to giggle at his response to her question and that cute little slightly embarrassed tone. Awwww! Adorable! “I already know you’re a knight in shining armor, so you didn’t have to dress the part too,” she teased. She simply had to. “No, no, I can help you. And you’ll get it. It just takes practice. Between you and me, once when I was new here, I had so much trouble with my breastplate and I was too embarrassed to ask for help that I actually went to bed in it.” She laughed at the memory, also hoping knowing he wasn’t alone would put his mind at ease. Then he mentioned a present and she had to smile because there he went being perfect again. Yvette seemed to agree because, in her little stuffy-obsessed mind (yes, she was at that phase) she sniffled, but as soon as that toy got within her line of sight, she was sure it was hers and she immediately reached for the fluffy thing. Which was a real pain in stores where there might be stuffed toys. Or when Amelia accidentally brought one of her balled socks into her view, because apparently balled socks looked a lot like toys to the infant. There was even one time that Amelia had to relinquish one of her sock balls to the baby for inspection. Once Yvette realized that it was not good for pulling at or eating or whatever she happened to be in the mood for, she discarded it and turned her definitely ADHD attention to something else. Since then, Amelia guarded her favorite fluffy house socks with avid detail. She shook her head with great enthusiasm at his comment. “It’s not corny at all! I love it! And obviously, so does she. It brings out your caring, sensitive, adorable side. Which, for the record, is incredibly attractive. And she’s not used to that great of stuff. I mean, single mom with rent bills. She has her toys, but they’re just average. Really, this is wonderful of you. I-…” She blushed at the corniness of what she had been about to say and how badly she wanted to just hug this wonderful guy, but that might be awkward. “Right, so, ah, hungry? My place is right this way.” She turned the stroller around and set off for the apartment complex again, slow so he could keep up in all the awkwardness that was a new set of armor.
