a f a d i n g no one As per usual, Edmund had returned to aimless walks around New Rome. It had been a rough month for him. He couldn't really imagine what it felt like for Josh, although he had a pretty good idea. It varied with everyone, but when you lost a close family member, you lost a family member. Same empty hole, same expecting them to walk through the door, same random, stupid things that would remind you of them. He had made the executive decision to take care of Art during the day, and then return to the forge at night. Compared to the last few times, Ed made himself go back quickly. He only stayed out around three weeks while he and Josh tried to adjust to their new life. Whether to make sure he didn't go all the way back to square one with the forge or to make sure he didn't think too hard on having another family collapse around him, he wasn't sure. For the longest time, Ed had hoped to feel nothing. And that's exactly what had happened. No screaming or smashing things. No feelings of anger or sadness. Just, blank numbness. For the first week, it had honestly scared him. Maybe his emotional center had taken one too many blows and had finally decided to shut down for good. Who was he kidding? He didn't have any emotions in the first place. Never did. At least, he shouldn't; he was Edmund "Emotionless Machine" Simons. He sighed slightly, Jupiter's words ringing in his head. Destined to never have a happy family, to never to keep one together. Well, at least his life made sense now. Maybe he really should just go into his Plan Hermit Crab. He'd never be able to hurt anyone ever again. He'd be alone and actually lonely, but that was okay. Small price to pay for all the hurt and disaster he'd leave in his wake.
