It'd been half a year of traveling, and Rhiannon had seen quite a bit as she floated over the undiscerning mortals. Not all of it bad. The geyser of emotions that bubbled in her chest where a strange mix she couldn't quite put her finger on. Here she was finally able to touch down at home, or at least as close to home as she dared to go at the moment. There wasn't even a call she sent out to let the boys know she was back. There wasn't even much conversation with them really. New powers where spotty at best, and vastly dangerous at their worst. So she'd been trying to take her time getting used to them, strangely calm considering she died.
Pure white fabric was draped across her in a traditional Roman style. Along with her dark hair they seemed to hover about her, floating on the air lightly. Being back in New Rome simply felt different. She couldn't put her finger on it, but she also couldn't say the feeling was for the city itself. After all, she was here last time as a living demigod. Now she was a Nymph. Dead or alive she wasn't sure how to pin exactly where to place herself. Though supposedly immortal was also an option. To be honest she felt death was more than deserved in her case. Painful and prolonged, but inevitably death. Though…immortality always seemed to her a terrible punishment as well. Perhaps not as immediate, however in the end it seemed to be the worse of the two.
Camp Jupiter was an amazing place, a refuge for those who were blessed or cursed, according to whatever they had lived, with having gods' blood in their veins. It had been that way for a very long time and no matter what, it seemed that as long as demigods existed, it would keep exist too. It had its perks but also its bad things, military camp was... both in fact. People learned how to defend themselves, but also they were sent to fight. Pain was always involved. But in order to guide the younger generations, there were some creatures that were meant to help throughout the years and centuries... Lares.
One of those was Nicholas Robinson, kind of new in the job, but still eager to help others. He didn't want new generations to fall into his same steps, he didn't want them to follow the path of pain and sorrow... the path of the repented traitor. He had been a demigod, in a moment of blinding pain, he betrayed the camp he had sworn to protect. Then he died protecting it again. Weird how things for people happened. Now he had been nlessed and cursed with the duty of being a Lar, a guide for those who were in need of guidance.
that very day, he was mingling to the Fields of Mars, he enjoyed going there, helping some kids to get better in their fighting techniques. He had no demigod powers, but he still knew how to fight, how to be... the best in an army. suddenly he saw a nymph there, beautiful creature... then he recognized the face of the nymph. "Rhiannon... rogers." he said and half smiled. they used to be friends, even traitors at the same time, friends in crime and then... in repentance.
She was spotted. Kind of obvious since she wasn't hiding, but she kind of wished people wouldn't recognize her immediately. Not to mention it was Nick. Someone who she couldn't help but admit she missed while she was floating around with nothing to do. Existential crisis happened, turned her around and around inside of a storm, and finally passed. Humans passed below her, and as expected they did many terrible things to each other and the creatures of the world. Less expectantly, they worked together to protect one another. Gave the last bit of food they had to a friend. Nursed wounded animals and let them go. With nothing else to do Rhiannon was forced to look at both the light and the dark sides of humans, and face the same in herself. Six months seemed like both a very long time, and a fleeting amount of life. Being back among the demigods of New Rome already felt sureal
“Nick.” She smiled and waved a bit, something she had done with small children who noticed her on her travels. Though she reminded herself that it was not really in her character to smile. To wave at people. Who was she really? Traveling around there was a different side to her. Smiling, laughing, yelling. Was she happy? Yes. Was she happy here in New Rome? Yes. Being lonely, or paranoid, did not change either of those facts. With Josh she was content, and happy, and loved. Without him she could fill the void with other people, their laughing, their conversations. Gaining all that new knowledge made her happy. It eased some of the burden of her heart. It helped her realize what she had done wrong and what she had done right.
Nicholas looked at Rhi as she looked at him and even waved weakly at him. He half smiled and nodded at her. he moved forward and reached the place where she was. He looked at her and circled her, he was admiring her, the new her. He chuckled a couple of times and then even smiled a bit more as if he was agreeing with whatever he was looking at in that moment. For him it was nice and weird, nice and strange to see her in such new body. He remembered her upset, angry, emotionless, covered in blood, fighting, in rage... But he had never seen her like that.
"Well, it is a pleasure to see you again, rhiannon" he smiled at her. For sure comeing back from death was difficult. In his case, he looked the same as when he died, but had no real body, just energy and few could really see him or even touch him. It had been a difficult thing to get used to, not to be touched at all. In her case, well, she was a nymph as far as he could tell or a spirit. But for sure she could be touched, something that would help her to get used to her new body. "So, nymph? spirit?" smiles, there was no trace of the past rage and sourness of his soul. And looking at her he could tell she had change that too.
He circled her once more, then stopped and smiled at her. Wide earnest smile. But could she be holding back the negativity that she had before?
Nick was dead. A Lar, returned to the world of the living for whatever crazy reason the gods had come up with. To be honest she felt as though once someone died they should stay dead, unless it was Edmund or Josh. Those two she'd drag back to the land of the living so she could kill them for being so stupid. As soon as she could she got an iris message to them so they wouldn't go storming the underworld. Maybe they were never planning on doing it for real. Josh had gone crazy but left her in that black hole that was Orthys, but she had thought about this already. It had gone over in her mind, and really it didn't matter. The past simply didn't matter anymore, you had to look ahead of you or you'll trip and fall. It was her way of living, it always had been. Learn and move on.
He circled her like a vulture, it was a little disturbing to be honest. Pulling a bit at her rob to adjust it, making sure it covered her properly. Stupid Roman gods and Nymphs with their strange clothes. At least she could control the wind so there was no sudden burst that would move the fabric in an unwanted way. “Yeah, I guess it's nice to see you too….” a reply given with a hint of awkwardness and uncertainty she didn't normally hold around others. It didn't hold the contempt and dislike her tone used to hold though, nor the lack of emotion she held in Orthys. “Nymph. Trivia turned me just as I was dying, and I ended up somewhere...else.”
Nick looked at her and laughed when she said that she 'guessed' that it was nice to see him too. He shook his head and then looked at her again. when he came back as a Lar, he feared that his escence had changed in any bad way or simply changed! That wouldn't had been good, he was who he was and if he was going to come back as a Lar it was because he was going to let other generations to learn from his mistakes, and how could they learn about them if he had changed in the inside, how could he tell them what he did right or wrong if he no longer was Nicholas Robinson!
Kaylee had told him that he really was himself, that he was only less angry. Then he questioned his own reality, what if losing that anger made him lose who he was?! Maybe he needed to keep his anger and his confussion to teach and help others! But then months passed and he thought that he was ok. Then Kaylee started to lose her motivation and he asked himself again if it was because inside they really changed their primary DNA information! But in that moment, looking at Rhia and listening to her, he realized that his fears were false. She was now a Nymph, but her basics are the same ones, she still didn't like to be touched or looked at, she still was herself and he was glad for her.
He sighed and chuckled. "Well, Trivia always loved you very much crazy one." winked and then stopped surrounding her and sat on the grass, well... as if he was on it. "come on, have a seat. Tell me about the world outside the walls."
No doubt she was a bit insane. None at all. Still, she wasn't like she was in Orthys and neither was Nick. It was just his way of reminiscing, though they had been crazy they were also the closest they had ever been. It must have been because they saw sides of each other no one else saw. Even now, even Josh. There where states of her own mind that Nicholas and Edmund had seen that Joshua hadn't. It wasn't as though it was a secret, or something she wanted to hide from him. Only that she didn't want to be in that state of mind again. “Yeah. That's one way to look at it, but I never saw something like immortality as a gift. Sabes?” a smirk graced her lips as she spoke the lightly familiar word. They used Spanish to communicate a little bit, and especially when he would loose his mind and revert to his native tongue.
Scooping the robe underneath her, the dark haired girl sat on the grass. At least as best she could given her limited control over her own powers. Her body only fully touched the ground once in a while, as though she bobbed up and down slightly. Lucky for her this body came with some grand kind of inner ear orientation fluid system. If it had been her before she might have gotten sick from all the movement in every direction possible. At first anyway, before she learned to control her bearings. Perhaps one day she would learn to move and flip as easily as a child of Mercury. Agility and balance would be her best bet, once she learned how to control it.
“The outside world huh? Well, there's a lot I guess.” There always had to be a starting point, and Rhiannon had to pick her favorite little kid from the bunch. As best she remembered the story she told it. A boy and a pack of stray dogs that seemed to follow him around town. They'd all do odd jobs about the poor village, and eat together as the sun set. How the dogs seemed as though they tried to pick up human speech, and mannerisms. A few funny things the small group did. Some heroics they pulled. Finally in the end they all got a house to live with an old couple, and they could eat more often than just at dusk.
