The brunette sat on a stump inside the woods, away from the noises of everyone milling about their daily business in the camp and in New Rome. She wasn't even sure where she fit into the scene anymore. She was figuring it out. She had just finally finished moving stuff into the new house in New Rome. So much things had changed since the New Year, it was definitely a whiplash and things weren't about to get any easier either. Her hand went down to her stomach were a small bulge was starting to form, not noticeable yet but she could tell the differences in her body. It happened before the quest but she didn't know until her and Remus were already away from the camp. She was so nervous about telling him too because they had just rekindled what they had what if something happened again. She wasn't sure what she could do, if she could handle a kid alone. She was feeling trapped and she didn't like it, but not trapped in a way she wanted to ditch, no not that. Just trapped in a way of anxiety. 

She looked up at the tree in front of her and gave a small sigh at the two sets of initials and the infinity symbol underneath them. Watching him carve that symbol even after everything broke her. She thought she had lost him and she never had, they tried to be apart but they always bounced back. She wasn't even sure how. But she knew watching him in that moment and finally breaking down in front of him and holding him close again, she knew she couldn't live without him and like, they made a kid now so even if she wanted to leave she probably wouldn't. 

She reached over to the bag of cookies she had brought along and ate another one as she watched the scenery around her until she heard footsteps. She moved quickly, unsheathing her black sword and turning towards the sound. She had been on edge ever since she came back, she knew people didn't like her, granted that had been that way for the longest time but now she was even more paranoid people might try something and she was going to be ready for them no matter what.

Remus headed home from the Principia, deep in thought. He was going to be a dad. The thought both terrified and overjoyed him. He stopped at a little side shop and poked around. Of course, he had no solid ideas, but he was in the mood to get something. He found two things by the time he left the store. One: a picture frame obviously made for a baby picture, since it had a teddy bear and a ball on it. Two: a clearance leftover chocolate Valentine heart, sugar free (because he had no idea what was good for a pregnant woman to eat, so let’s at least cut down on sugar?). He headed back to their home and let himself in. “Felicity?” No answer. So he set down the things he’d bought and headed back out. Maybe she was out with Clare talking about baby stuff, or out collecting information for her next big article. Wherever she was, he was torn between finding her just out of sheer need to see his lovely wife… or letting her do her own thing. So he wandered a bit, grabbed a cup of tea, and kept wandering.

It felt like a whole hour passed before he left New Rome to think about training on the obstacle course. He was walking along the edge of the Field of Mars to avoid the potholes of the most recent games when he saw a figure in a familiar spot. He knew that spot because he visited it a lot. But there was someone there this time. So he approached carefully and come to find he wasn’t quite careful enough because the brunette whipped out a Stygian Iron sword faster than any pregnant woman should be allowed to. He froze, hands in the air. “You wouldn’t slice your beloved husband in half, would you?” he asked with a hint of innocence. For all he knew, she could be on a hormonal rage and start yelling at him rapid-fire followed quickly by sobbing or something. He’d heard the stories from Jason about how it could get. But he was determined to get through this. Hands lowering slightly, he looked to the tree. “You visit it too? We should just combine efforts and come here together more often.” For the time being, he would ignore the delicious-smelling cookies she had apparently been eating as there were a few crumbs around her mouth. If he didn’t know her better, he would say it made her look less threatening, but he knew full well this woman could and did mean business.

Felicity relaxed once she recognized who it was and gave him a slight smile. "Course not. Just habit,  I guess." She said as she sheathed the black sword and looked at her husband, gods it was still weird to think of him as such. Just with all that they went through, seemed as though it would never happen and then with all the crap that came right after their vows, it was like they were cursed or something, at least things seemed to have smoothed out at the present moment. Hopefully they would keep up, she really did enjoy spending her time with him and he really did know hew better than anyone else, though Edmund and Clare came as close seconds to that. But she had been close with this man for over three years now, that had to mean something, after all they went through that only they would understand, it was weird to imagine them with anyone else. 

She looked behind her, back at the tree and smiled slightly as she nodded. "Yeah...it's just calming here." She turned the smile to him. "I wouldn't mind that, plus it would give me more time to spend with you." She said with a slight tease, though she wouldn't deny it, she had been awfully needy lately, not that she would let it show but she just wanted to be by him. It was so different than how she normally was. Usually she was okay with spending the day doing her own thing and then meeting up with Remus later and having meals together, so as long as he brought himself home from work that night. But now, ever since she had found out she was pregnant she just wanted him near her all the time. Gods, it was annoying. Plus she was afraid she'd snap at him or something or that he would judge her from all the food she was eating. Not that it was her fault she was pregnant, even though it takes two, you get the gist. 

She walked over  to him and wrapped her arms around him. "Did you get off early today or are you still getting swamped? Like, when things were really brewing with Saturn I felt like I never saw you at all because of your work. It sucked." She said as she gave him a slight pout.

Remus had to smile. “That’s my wife. All grown up and saving China.” Little Mulan reference never hurt anyone. Besides, the woman in front of him did have a lot in common with that particular heroine. Defying the norms, standing up for who and what she loved, enchanting the military leader. He found himself watching her, just admiring her. His wife. Gods, that was the best thought ever. He was married to her. She was pregnant with their child. It was – bar none – the best thing he ever could have dreamed of. And now that he was unabashedly staring and had no one outside the two of them to judge him for it, he took the time to enjoy the little things. Like the sparkle in her eyes. The warm touch of pink in her cheeks. The soft curl of her lips. The satin flow of her hair. … And the fact that she was, subtly noticeably, putting on weight. And it certainly was not fat. He loved everything about her. Absolutely everything. They’d been through hell and back together, but that was the thing: they’d done it together. She was amazing. A dream come true. And he prayed to every god that would listen that that little angel growing in her belly took after her. Okay, maybe not in the respect for rules department. He’d have to ensure that one didn’t happen, he thought with a mental chuckle, but he was sure Felicity would be in on that too.

He smiled at her words. “More time with you? You spoil me with your presence, dear. I’d love to spend all the time I can with you. Every time I see you it’s like the first smell of spring flowers after a long winter.” She was teasing and he knew it, but he didn’t care. For some reason, he was just in one of those moods where he just really wanted her to know how much he adored her. Maybe it was the lack of other people present that helped that. If anyone but her heard him talk like that, he’d never live it down. In fact, there was a distinct chance that she wouldn’t let him live it down either… oh well.

When she came over and hugged him, he held her close gladly. “Ronan needs more experience, so I gave him some of the tough, time-consuming things to test his worth. If he can’t figure it out, I’ll be there tomorrow. But yes, that means I am free and entirely yours.” He stroked her hair and kissed her on top of her head. “I know. It was awful for me too. You remember that photographer at the Valentine’s dance we went to all those years ago? I still have that picture. I keep it in my wallet for the hard days, so I can pretend you’re actually there smiling at me. Gets me through. But yes, the real smile from the real you is much preferred. Plus, photos can’t hug worth beans.” He chuckled.

Felicity shook her head with a small laugh. Way to show that secret side of yourself, Remus. He always did appear intimidating to those who didn't know him. And who could blame them? He was intimidating. He was a son of Mars and he was in charge of the entire legion and probably would never think of retirement if he could help it. Though who would want anyone else as praetor besides him? He did his job well, she wouldn't be surprised that if by the time the little one inside of her joined up in the legion it would still be Remus who was in charge and bossing people around. The kid certainly wouldn't have it easy. She just hoped that the little one took after her father more so than her in regards to planning ahead and following the rules. She knew she had a problem with it, she wouldn't deny that, it's a wonder how she did ever get involved with someone who was so anal about the rules. Oh well, not that she regretted that. Being with Remus was definitely not a regret. 

She noticed him staring and couldn't help but blush some as she hid her face slightly out of habit. Then she laughed. "Wow, you must really be in a good mood. You're being corny, and to think anyone could walk over at any instance. What on Earth would they think has come over you?" She said with a small laugh as she smiled up at him. He did have his corny moments, that was true. It just reminded her that there was that softer side to him under that hard exterior synonymous with his last name, no... not just his last name, their last name. Something that she had dreamed about for years and then worried herself sick over that it was gone for good only for it to work out in the end. they were just always drawn to each other. They had gone through things most other people would fear and they had done it together, it's hard to find someone to understand that feeling with. 

She grinned. "Entirely mine? Well... guess that means I need to figure something out to fill all that free time with then. Like, I don't know, baby stuff or eating food, because food is great and I'm like always eating now." She said, smiling at him and then laughed. "That's such a bad picture though! I was so nervous that day. Gods, I can't believe it was that long ago though. Doesn't seem like it some days. Are we really getting that old, Remus?" She said teasingly. Really though, she wasn't that old. She had just recently turned twenty the past December and she knew that Remus had a few years over her, that old fart, but he was a cute old fart and she loved him. She really wouldn't have it any other way, besides, it wasn't that long ago that she wondered if she would even make it to twenty, being a big three and all and having a sooner than average expiration date than her other demigod counterparts and all. And now here she was, married and expecting her first child, she still couldn't believe it.

Remus chuckled. Her blush was incredibly cute and, well, why not keep up speaking out and – okay, maybe a smidge – trying to bring it out more? “Well, you see, it started a few years ago when I got a date with this gorgeous girl who ended up turning into a stunning woman who happened to kinda like me back to the point where she granted me the privilege of putting a ring on her finger. Then there’s the fact that she makes a baby bump look gorgeous.” He smirked at her. “Let them come, let them hear, let them talk. Any Roman worth a denarius would know any real man would dote on his wife. Besides, anyone who doesn’t think I’m a real man at least knows that I can break their arm just for looking at me funny.” He laughed and shrugged. “Either way, we’re golden. Besides, Felicity Stone plus hormones? Even I am terrified.” He immediately laughed, which was half to show he was joking around and half because he knew saying that was dangerous and he actually was a tad nervous. “Kidding, of course. Have I told you lately you’re beautiful?”

Perhaps telling her that he was entirely hers after mentioning her hormones was a terrible idea, but he was her husband and he loved her and he would gladly get smacked if that made her feel better, then he’d probably buy her a smoothie and anything baby-safe her dear heart desired. He laughed. “Then let’s do that. Food and baby stuff. Or baby stuff and food. Whichever order you prefer, darling.” He chuckled when she whined that it was a bad picture. “Well, I’ve actually got all this…” He reached into his pocket and pulled out one of those wallet inserts of clear plastic sleeves. He didn’t carry the wallet it was intended for since denarii were coins, but it still held 5 little pictures. He held it up for her to see, turning the pages. The first was the one he’d spoken of, which was actually quite comical because they both really did look nervous. Then a sneaky picture he’d taken of her while she was training because to a son of Mars, that was incredibly attractive. Then the necessary wedding photo, then a mini version of the ultrasound picture. “See? I’m saving the last slot for the hospital when we get all three of our pictures taken together the first time.” He flipped back to the first and smiled fondly. “No, dear, we’re not. I am. You’ll be forever young and beautiful like the angel you are. So no worries. As long as you don’t mind helping this old fart push his wheelchair around after he gets too decrepit.” He teased, giving her a soft shoulder nudge. “Now come on, we have baby stuff to do and food to eat and then I am probably going to treat you to a foot massage because I heard pregnancy is awful on your feet.”

Felicity shook her head. Remus must have lost it. Kidding, of course. She knew that he loved seeing her blush, must to her own disapproval. She thought it looked embarrassing and him just adding more comments about her didn't help any of her attempts to conceal the blush so she just looked at him, trying to seem annoyed but couldn't stop the corners of her mouth from twitching up into a smile. Then she laughed at the hormones bit. She hadn't thought she was that bad with them, then again, she wasn't the one who saw her on the outside. Maybe to Remus they were a bit unbearable. "I could be a lot worse, you know that?" She said with a laugh before leaning up on her tip-toes and going to kiss his cheek. "You tell me that more times than probably necessary." She said, smiling up at him. He really was good about trying to compliment her whenever he deemed necessary, which was a pretty often case, not that she minded, it was just a tad much more than she was use to at times. 

She thought it over. She had just been eating before he arrived and she wasn't really all the more hungry, granted that might change. So maybe checking out baby stuff first wouldn't be a bad thing. She knew the basics of what would be needed, she remembered listening to Amelia and then Clare talk about it all. She felt pretty confident going into the pregnancy, but it was still scary. She wrapped her arms over the small bump that had grown, nothing a bigger shirt couldn't hide, thankfully not to noticeable to people who didn't know that she was pregnant. She wondered who still didn't know. She figured Remus would tell all of his friends and then maybe more, he seemed really excited about being a dad, and he would make a good one, she was sure of it. They had talked about it countless times before. Every time kids came up he seemed to light up a bit more, she couldn't help but smile with him. 

"Baby stuff first. I just shoved a bunch of cookies in my face, remember?" She asked, looking up at him. In reality she just wanted to take him home and cuddle up against him. She didn't want to deal with other people and such but she knew she had to and that Remus was more social than her. She was just being clingy to the man she loved and the father of the child she was carrying for him. Plus, she always felt safest in his arms. She looked at his wallet and at all the photos. She laughed, pointing to the picture of her training. "When did you take that one? I'm a sweaty mess and I'm pretty sure I was trying to not murder someone in the cohort." She said with a laugh. It was definitely before the mess with Saturn and before the amnesia, which she still had spots that were foggy and she couldn't remember well from before that time thanks to her grandfather, and it was before she was discharged from the legion. So, within the first year of them dating for sure. Seeing those photos made her smile though, even if she felt like she was awkward in all of them. "The last slot is a hospital picture? Great, so I'll look extremely exhausted and you'll be there looking perfect with an adorable baby. One more awkward picture for me!" She said jokingly, just giving him a hard time. 

She smirked at him and nudged him back. "Please, I'll be right there next to you." Then she sighed and nodded and started to head out of the forest. "You dote on me too much. I think I'll be fine with a walk. When its the last few months I'll definitely bother you more than, maybe force you to cash in all those vacation days you stock up on. For me?" She sadi, giving him a small pout, being her needy pregnant self. Which was very different than her headstrong independent self that she was when she wasn't pregnant, or sick for that matter. When she was sick she was just as needy.

She was adorable. He could tell she was holding a smile back behind that I’m going to kill you for this look. So he, in turn, held back the need to snicker. It was not easy. But he had a feeling snickering at an annoyed woman – who happens to be your pregnant wife – would be a real bad idea. Then the laugh from her came and he joined in. “I do know that. You terrify me, my dear. Always have.” He smiled at her soft kiss. “Which is still only half as many times as I want to.”

He watched her ponder it, holding her hand all the while and running his thumb over the back absently. “Cookies don’t count when there are smoothies to be had,” he laughed. “But I’m following your lead.” Then naturally, he had to own up to his little secret and show… the pictures. He was rather fond of them. He flipped through them, explaining them. Her reactions were perfect. “You were probably that and more, but dang you were awesome. Still are.” Then her comment on the hospital picture… well he was conflicted honestly. Part of him wanted to laugh at her joke, and his mouth did twitch up a hint from it. Then he sighed. “I’m not going to look perfect, trust me. Happy, but not perfect. But if you rather, we can skip that one. I’ll just go with first day home picture. So we’ll have a not awkward picture of a lovely woman, an old man who can’t stop smiling, and a tiny bundle of happiness. Sound better?”

He smiled and kissed her cheek quickly. “Maybe we can get a double wide wheelchair so we can sit together. Like a rolling loveseat.” He wrapped an arm around her middle back and walked with her. “Yeah, I’m kind of doomed once the baby is born, you know? I’ll still dote on you like crazy, but I’ll have to find ways to dote on a teeny tiny baby. I’ve had practice with you, but this is going to be a new one.” He chuckled. Then she went all cute and pouty about him cashing in vacation days. He had to laugh. “Dear, I will make male maternity leave a new thing if I have to just to help you.”

At his reaction to her comment on the wanting of a hospital picture she just kind of frowned and looked at Remus a moment. She didn't want to say anything but it always seemed he was trying too hard to just say whatever made her happy. Was she really that intimidating? Was he still worried from the last time they got in argument? She looked away from him and rubbed her arm, knitting her eyebrows as she headed out of the woods and towards New Rome. "I was kidding, you can take the picture, who knows, I might not look half as bad as I think." She said, giving a short, slight laugh.

She smiled at him though, he was so eager to be a father, she knew it was something he had wanted for awhile. She was just paranoid, silly hormones making her act all weird. "If you do that I might love you even more than I already do, which is pretty hard." She said with a genuine laugh before tilting her head at home. "Are you still going to stay praetor? I know you've debated retirement a few times now." Felicity asked her husband curiously. It was still weird to think of him without the purple adorning him, but she knew that typically praetors didn't stay in office as long as he had, though she knew no one was complaining.
