Following The Leader (FLASH Ken)

Kit came here a lot, she realized as she walked into the circus maximus. It was high noon, so there were no trainings or games or anything. It was rather sad seeing it so silent. She walked out right to the middle, no weapon, no nothing. The light breeze blew her red hair, so she dug in her pocket and pulled out a tiny claw clip and pulled part of it back. Then she did a slow circle to look around what she had to work with here. Winter. Hard-packed earth. But California, so not like it was cold. Or, you know, there wasn’t snow. So clean and decently good slate.

She walked to the edge and took a landscape shot using her fingers like a frame. “Ready.” She took one step. In her wake, a couple little stems started pushing their ways up through the hard earth her feet were loosening. She grinned. “Let’s do this.” She set off, sprouts coming up as she walked, a little row of green soldiers with thick stems as they grew taller and thick but narrow leaves peeling away on either side. Before long, she had a full circle with an nice little opening at one side, then she turned and started inward, the plants following.

Usually Ken was a very peaceful guy, he looked for peace more than war even when his father was the all mighty Mars Ultor. son of Mars that always looked in calm and always negotiating so he could help his grandmother to achieve some of power for her, some vital force that in these days seemed to be so little. even critiziced by some of his siblings, but Ken never seemed to care about it, he always was smiling and trying his best to control the Mars rage inside of him.

But that day it seemed to be impossible at all cost. He had a horrible nightmare, he was in war and due to all of what he was, people that he cared about died before his eyes. Charlie, Remus,... Kit. He woke up covered in sweat and panting. He knew it had been nightmare, but sometimes Somnus gave you those to make you realize where were you lacking as a Roman.

so Ken didn't go back to sleep, he went to change clothes and then went to run, but as he still felt uneasily worried, he decided to go to the Circus Maximus. Maybe there he could train a bit as an ancient gladiator. He got to the impressive place, but for his surprise it was already occupied. He walked closer and saw a well known for him red head. Kit was training there. So he decided to observe for a moment and what he saw impressed him deeply.

"Maybe you could let me train with them someday" he said and tried to smile, but he still felt the rage he felt after his nightmare.

Kit was walking along, minding her own business as cornlings followed her around in her efforts to throw off both winter and anyone who tried to train here. She was making a labyrinth. Out of corn. What? Her mom’s specialty was harvest-y things. Corn just happened to be right up her alley. She’d completed the outer rim and was now headed in to make the inner workings of this maze. As she kept walking, the outer rim, in order of her past steps, kept growing. Where she’d initially stepped was two feet tall and already showing promise of a few ears. The bonus? It was chilly out, yes, but she didn’t really feel it. All she felt was the energy radiating between her and the ground as the corn was brought to life. It was a healthy warmth. Like when you sat out in the sunshine on a May day. Or soaked in a hot bubble back. Well, that did make sense to compare. Water and sun were the major elements to these plants needed.

Since she was so in tune with the earth in this moment, she almost felt the footsteps before she heard them. She glanced over her shoulder and finally stopped walking when she saw who it was, a big smile on her face. “Hey there! Come on over!” She laughed at his comment. “Are you referring to me or the corn? Because nutritionally corn will kick your butt. Physically, you terrify me,” she teased. She could tell there was something off about his smile and she was determined to get a real one out of him, so tactic one was joking around. “But in all honesty, what brings you this way? Most people are doing sane things like eating lunch. Then again, what’s the fun in being sane?”

Ken looked at her and smiled when she said that about the corn. He had been talking about the plants, he considered that it was amazing the way some children of Ceres could create such amazing weapons. They could say that they weren’t that, but he was a son of Mars and he perfectly knew when something was being used as weapons, even plants or living subjects as demigods. He remembered Ryan and Lexi, they were also children of Ceres and both of them had an amazing way to use plants and protect others. He even remembered how they died, it had been sad, but real and effective.

He chuckled and walked closer being careful to not step on any of the leaves or parts of those corn plants, he didn’t know how could they react if they felt that someone is endangering them. He looked at her again and smiled a bit."Well, I would love to train with you, but I know you are far stronger than I am, and I also think that your plants are an incredible weapon of defense.” Well, definitely that morning was his Mars side winning over his slight Pax side. He didn’t know why, he only knew that he felt as if he was burning inside, maybe still part of the nightmares.

“I’m not really hungry, Kit.” He smiled at her and then tilted his head. “But the same questions goes at you, why aren’t you eating some good food?” He smiled and then approached to kiss her cheek.

Kit folded her arms behind her back and rocked on her heels a bit as he approached, just taking him in. He really was pretty darn amazing. Her heart had been crushed by that fool of a boy Hydee, but… when she was around Kenshin, it felt better. Much better. He made her smile. So this particular moment, being here causing mischief with her corn maze to be, and then him joining? Well that just made her day wonderful!

Then he joked – he was joking, right? He didn’t sound it, but he had to be – about her being stronger than him. Listen to him, all Mars-y. She laughed softly. “Me? Stronger than you? Cute, Ken.” She was teasing, of course. “But you flatter me. And my corn.”

Hmm, touche. He had a good point there. “Well, uh, hadn’t thought much about that. I guess I didn’t feel hungry either, so decided to come here instead.” Then he went and pulled a Ken. She blushed as he kissed her cheek and all those thought from earlier – the murdering Hydee ones? – disappeared into new fluffy little bubbles. She kissed his cheek right back and beamed. “Perhaps the mighty Ken would like to join me? Just, oh, five more minutes of leading the path and another couple to grow fully and we should have a menacing corn maze taking up the greater part of this fighting floor. Pretty much Daedalus level fun minus a Minotaur. But I can rig a few traps into it too to make it interesting. What do you think?”
