Today had never gotten easier. The day Diana had banished her. February 23. She finished her class and went home to shower, then raided the stash she had of those cute little tiny assorted chocolate hearts that stores baited kids (and their parents) into getting for their teachers. She had 24 of them. Perhaps it was a testament to her teaching skills that not a single one of her kindergarteners failed to get her one. She grabbed one of them – okay, two – and stuck them in a left over grocery bag, then headed out. She wasn’t on schedule today at her second job, so she was totally free and she knew just what she wanted to do. This day, in the past, had always made her feel sad. After all, she had lost her family truly and forever that day and been thrown out into a cruel and different world. She’d had to learn lessons the hard way. She’d had to grow up. Part of her never forgave Diana for that, but part of her thanked her. For if she hadn’t been kicked out of the Hunters today all those years ago, she wouldn’t be where she was now. And she was happy now.
She peeked in the window of the coffee shop and saw the warm smile she loved so dearly. There he was. Terry. He was behind the counter helping a customer, so she silently went in and snuck up to the line and waited patiently. When she got to the front, she gave him a coy smile. “Hey, handsome. Think the best guy in the world could set me up with a peppermint hot cocoa?” She slid the two drachma across the counter. “And company when he goes on break?”
For Terry February 23rd was like any other day in the calendar. He knew that it was Tuesday and he needed to make the orders to the closest farms for some dairy and also for some flour. He also knew that It was the day that he could take a free moment, a break from his job and go out to see his beloved girlfriend.
But that day the coffee had been full all day long. He was happy about it, but also a bit stressed, People ate faster than Ben could bake and well that was something they would have to work with later. Also a kid was running around and broke some mugs, his father caught him and paid for the damages, but still that had been a bit stressful. After some hours everything calmed down.
suddenly he heard the sweetest voice on Earth. He lift the sight and smiled at her. "Well, I definitely can provide you with both if you let me." He winked and then looked around and checked that everything was in order. "Let me make the beverages and then we can go wherever you want to." Smiles at her and leans over the counter to kiss her, then goes to prepare the beverage.

Sam kept a close eye on Terry as she was in line. He seemed a little… exhausted. She felt bad for him. She’d had her off day and here he was working himself to exhaustion. She pondered volunteering to come help out once she finished her drink. Yes, she’d keep that on the table. But once she got to the front of the line, her worry for him eased at the sight of that smile. “If I let you?” she asked with a light laugh. “More like it would be the highlight of my day.” Then Terry, being the adorable romantic that he was, didn’t even let the counter be an obstacle to get in the way of him kissing her, which was so incredibly sweet. Of course she leaned in to help him out, and kissed him back. “Depends how much time you have. The couch over there with the coffee table would be totally fine.”
She leaned on the counter and watched him like a schoolgirl with a playground crush, totally infatuated with everything about him. First of all, any woman with eyes could see how attractive he was. That windswept chestnut hair. Those sculpted features (okay, so like all of his body was sculpted, she had to admit, thinking back to the time they’d gone swimming together back when the weather was agreeable). Those eyes you could definitely get lost in way too easily. And that was just exterior stuff. Sit down and talk with him and you found out that he was also basically the best guy ever to walk the earth. Kind to everyone, even total strangers. So friendly. Smiled a lot. Gods, was she lucky. That, and she was totally staring, which, knowing her luck, he’d probably notice in about five seconds, which would result in her no doubt going a little red with embarrassment. But it was too late now.
Terry went to prepare the beverages that Sam had ordered, well in fact she only ordered one, but he wanted to have something too while they talk. A peppermint hot cocoa… He grabbed the glass cup and then put a peppermint shot in it then some cocoa syrup and then some milk, he walked to the machine and put the hot air metallic tube into the milk and started it on when it was ready he set the glass on a side. He walked to get another glass and he smiled and looked at the place where she was. The sight made him smile even more.
She was over the bar as a schoolgirl, he grinned and then sent a kiss at her and turned again to face the machine and prepare an Irish cappuccino for himself. When he finished he looked at Andrew, who was a young man working there, and asked him to watch over the place meanwhile he went to an empty table and chat with Sam. Andrew agreed and smiling took the order of the next costumer. Terry walked to the end of the bar and then handed the cocoa to Sam.
“A peppermint hot cocoa for the most beautiful woman in the world.” He smiled and then leaned down and kissed her lips tenderly and softly, so like foam rubbing her lips. “Shall we seat in that place?” he looked at an empty table by the window.
Sam enjoyed being here. One would think that, what with her working here and all, that the smells of coffee or Ben’s latest concoctions, or the lively colors of the place people might assume she took for granted. But in all honesty, none of that was true. She adored being here! Not as much as she adored the man currently fixing her cocoa, but that was a different kind of adoration. That and her enjoying working here just might have a slight bit to do with her love – yes, love – for that man.
Then he caught her and she blushed brilliant red. He blew her a kiss and no manner of being being supposedly grown up and adult and all that could stop the giggle from escaping. She blew him one back, but wasn’t sure he got it before he got back to work. She loved this. If this was what love was like, then today – leaving the Hunters – should be a joyous celebration! Sorry, Diana. The goddess had been a good mentor then, but Samantha was no longer a child with a bow. Now she was a woman with a class full of kindergarteners and an apron with her name tag pinned on it waiting in the closet some ten minutes’ walk from that. She had new responsibilities. And she had Terry. Her everything.
She took the cocoa from the dreamy man who had made it for her and smiled. “Thank you, oh noble and kind and regal gentleman, the likes of which every great king, mortal and immortal, wishes to learn from.” There was that soft kiss and she had to smile. With her free hand, she took his free hand. “Then there we shall go.” She led him over and sat down. “Sure they can survive at all without their superhero manager? At least, until we finish here and I join in the fray there.”
