There was always that chance that Mercury had been out and about. He liked to think of New Rome as his home away from the mountain. But to be perfectly honest, he liked the quiet on occasion. Not that he wasn't plotting and scheming, he was always plotting and scheming. He had opened up a few businesses here in the camp, mostly in the food industry, before turning them over to campers who had been out of the legion and looking for a way to make drachma. The chance to take over a business was important. It let them learn a skill that would help them in life. That was something that Mercury was proud of. Then there were people that really blossomed. They treated the businesses that he had given them like a child, they really took to owning a business like a fish or a duck to water. It always made him happy to see that happen.
But he was sitting on a rock with a picnic basket full of food near by. He always had food. Mercury loved food, but most of all, he really liked good food. He sat there with a book in his hands just enjoying the morning. It was quiet, there were no signs of campers tromping through the woods in some sort of excercise. Though he would bet at any moment, the first or second cohort would come blasting through the woods like a pack of elephants. They always had some of the strangest training excercises but they worked. It always surprised him how much first and second cohort could be so far above the rest of them. Not that he didn't have faith in his boy Josh to keep fifth above where they had been, but there was just something about the higher up two cohorts that managed to impress even him. With that being said, Mercury's ears almost twitched as he heard the sound of someone else in the woods along with him. Not that these were his woods. Chances were it was someone that liked to skip out on practice. He couldn't blame them, sometimes practice was just boring.
Mercury flipped to the next page in his book. Sometimes he liked to read but today it felt as if he was looking at the words without really seeing them. At this point he was a bit distracted, he couldn't even tell you what book he was reading or what it was about. Why was he so distracted, he wondered to himself.
