Once Upon a Dream [Lucy]

New Rome, the home of demi-gods, their kids, and well some of the gods who have homes here. Right now Pax wasn’t in the camp because New Rome had been calling to her. Why? Well there was chocolate here, but there was also something more important. No not something more like someone. One of the most important people in her life. Now all she had to do was find her daughter and they could spend some time together. Why was Lucy important to her? Well she picked who the fathers of her children would be and they had to be very special, that’s why each of her children were special to her. Lucille took after her so much in the fact she didn’t like violence and that made her heart swell.

Armed with a bunch of chocolate she made her way through new Rome looking for Lucy. She would find her and then they would be able to spend the day together, it would be nice to be able to do that. She hadn’t seen her little one in a long time and she couldn’t help but really miss her a lot. Thankfully they were allowed to actually see their kids now and get to know them. As she moved through New Rome she got caught up in looking through some shops and after finding some nice things she took her new bags and continued.

That’s when she spotted the girl she was looking for, her perfect daughter. You could say that she was shaking a little, be it from nerves or excitement she couldn’t tell. Finally, finally she would spend time with Lucy and actually get to know her better. Seeing as they looked about the same age she hoped it didn’t freak her out. Then again the kids should know that they didn’t age and well this was the result. Walking up to her she grins and holds out the bag for her. “Want some chocolate?” So she might not have any tact but what could you do?

Lucy was thinking about trying out for the community play. The play was to be Anastasia and oh, how Lucy wanted to play the iconic princess. It was using the plot of the animated film, as that would be much more family friendly than what actually happened to the Tsar’s youngest daughter. So she had her blue refurbished iPod and headset and sat on a bench and hit play and closed her eyes.

Before she knew it, she was in the role entirely. She saw herself in a grand palace, though she herself was in rags. Even though outside her mind it was still a little on the hot side, she could feel in her imagination to tense bite of winter in St Petersburg. She was Anastasia Romanov. First it was humming to the soft tune, then singing softly. “Dancing bears… painted wings… things I almost remember…”[/b She found herself swaying to a song she had loved since her childhood when the movie came out. “And a song someone sings once upon a December…”

In the lull between stanzas, she heard something awfully close. She opened her eyes to find a young woman offering a bag to her. She quickly hit pause and pulled out the earbuds. “I’m sorry, what was that?” She was trying to play it off that she’d just been singing. That and she was entirely confused by how similar this young woman looked to the image in the mirror whenever Lucille was getting ready in the morning. Even her eyes. Even her height. It was all very strange. “You seem familiar. Have we met?” It was an odd thing to say, but she still felt chills looking into her eyes. Like she had a twin she never knew about.

There she was, her beautiful daughter was sitting on a bench listening to music. No, she wasn’t just listening to music she was singing along to the song. She recognized it from the upcoming community play that they were going to do. Now see, this made her beam with pride! No one else in New Rome could play Anastasia better than her daughter. Lucy should get the part and then she would floor everyone with her talent. The sound of her voice carried and it sent beautiful music to her ears. She loved it and she couldn’t help but be enchanted by it. She nibbled on a piece of chocolate and stood there for a while listening.

Once she finally came up to her she couldn’t help but notice a lot of her own features that were in her daughter. Hearing her ask what was that she grinned to her. “I was wondering if you’d like some chocolate?” She offered it to the girl and sat down next to her. “You’re singing is very beautiful. She could sing very well and she wanted to hear more of it but she was actually a little scared to ask her to. As she looked into Lucy’s eyes she could see that they had the same eyes. It was amazing how many of her features Lucy had.

As she spoke up she shook her head and came out of her trance at Lucy’s question. Oh right! She was asking if they had met before. “You could say we’ve met before, once upon a November.” What? It was a play on words and she was born so close to December. She couldn’t help it to be ironic and maybe a little funny. “It was a long time ago but we’ve met before.”

Lucy hadn’t been this embarrassed in a long while. Caught singing in public to a song no one else could hear? With an audience. And then her audience of one actually asked if she’d like chocolate. It was so unusual, she honestly didn’t know what to say. “I… sure.” Then the other girl just had to go and mention her singing and make Lucy’s cheeks turn a brilliant pink. “Oh… you heard?” She tucked her hair behind her ear nervously. “Thanks…” This whole thing was so odd. A girl who looked so much like her, randomly showing up and asking if she wanted some chocolate, then nonchalantly sitting with her and complimenting her on her singing. She fidgeted with the earbud cord.

Then she plucked up the nerve to ask if they’d met before, unable to get past the odd feeling. Once upon a November? Of course, Lucy’s mind went to two things: Thanksgiving and her birthday. Both of which were in November. She distinctly remembered spending Thanksgivings only with her father. So… the thought struck her like lighting and she bolted up to standing, the ipod mercifully slowed still dangling around her neck so it didn’t crash against the cobblestones. “Oh my gods, I’ve got a twin!?” She felt so stunned even when her precious little music box was released by the earbud safety cord and clattered to the ground, protected well enough by its rubber case. Either way, she didn’t notice. “Oh my gods, I knew you looked similar, but… whoa.” She ran her hand through her hair distractedly. She seemed sold on the impossible idea. I mean, how else could this girl look so similar and be the same age? They had to be twins!

It was great that she caught her daughter out here singing, she had a wonderful voice and she was so pleased to hear it. Once Lucy accepted the offer of chocolate she smiled and broke off a piece and handed it over. “Trust me, it’s the best chocolate around.” She only went after the best because well she wanted the best. Seriously if people left this on her alter as an offering she’d accept it every time. She had a bit of a sweet tooth and it led her to favoring people who offered her sweets. “I did hear, you have a beautiful voice. I’m so glad you’re going to be in the play.” She was going to come see the play now and watch her sing and do well. “You’re welcome, I would love to hear more if you’d let me.”

Now this was good to see, her daughter had worked up the nerve to ask if they had met before. She wasn’t going to play around much with this, just guide her to the correct answer. When she hinted they’d met in November she could see Lucy’s mind start working things out. She needed to think on how she was going to….wait did she say twin. A small laugh left her lips and she looked up to her daughter. Oh this was, no. If only Lucy had been a twin. Watching her iPod dangle and then clatter to the ground she flinched. Oh no! If it broke she was going to get her a new one.

“We do look very similar, Lucy.” She brushed some of her own hair behind her ear. She moved a little closer and then shook her head. “But you weren’t born a twin.” Her eyes looked into Lucy’s and she allowed a little bit of her power to touch Lucy. “Can you guess yet?” She broke off another piece of chocolate and popped it into her mouth. She was so close; she knew Lucy would come to the conclusion.

Lucy curiously took the chocolate and sniffed it and was overwhelmed by the aroma of the best chocolatiness ever to be experienced. Not to appear too eager, she bit off a small corner and let it melt in her mouth. Needless, though, as the other girl pronounced it the best ever. One more nibble because she couldn’t resist. “Where did you get it? It’s delicious!” Then the topic switched to her singing. Her cheeks flushed and she shook her head. “I don’t have the part. Not yet. Auditions are net week. I’m just practicing.” Then the idea that she should intentionally sing more for a stranger – even a stranger who gave her chocolate – was a little unusual. She was self-conscious at having been discovered as it was. “Perhaps…” She didn’t want to betray her nerves or stamp the other girl’s hope, but she was also extremely embarrassed.

But she was also curious as to why this young woman seemed familiar. So, why not ask? Once upon a November? Which meant Lucy’s birth month. Perhaps a party when she was younger. But no, they simply looked too similar, which is what made her spurt out her surprise to find she may have a twin.

The young woman seemed to find this at least a little funny, which confused Lucy. She was entirely lost, too stuck in the mortal world to realize. Then it washed over as the woman stepped closer. It was like full-body chill that starts at your core and spreads head to toe. Except it was warm and like the soft brushing of feathers. She stopped short, shock and awe dawning on her face. Then she bowed deeply, holding her arms out as if to do a proper curtsey had she been wearing the proper attire for a curtsey. “Lady Pax, you honor me with your presence,” she said without lifting out of the curtsey, eyes down to acknowledge the superiority of the one she was addressing. In manner and, sometimes, mannerisms, she was rather best to be a Victorian lady than a 21st century demigod.

She watched as her daughter at the chocolate and smiled, it was amazing! She was so glad that Lucy was enjoying the chocolate that she’d given her. Taking another piece she noms on it and then smiles. “Well I got it from my own private collection. Where it actually came from is a secret that I will share with you later.” Once she would get her to actually guess where she was from then she’d tell her all about the chocolate. There was nothing better than chocolate and sharing it with someone special. She really did enjoy hearing Lucy singing the song, it was amazing! “Well I am sure you will beat out every Venus daughter and get the part. You have a wonderful singing voice.” Venus was probably going to argue that with her later.

It was surprising with how much Lucy looked like her, they could almost be twins. Her daughter seemed to be genetic perfection. Not only was she sweet, kind, loving, and caring she seemed to possess everything that Pax cared about. Peace. That was the number one thing she loved. It was another reason Mars annoyed her when he kept starting wars.

Hearing Lucy think she had a twin really did make her giggle but kind of sad that Lucy wasn’t a twin. This much amazingness in one person, just imagine if it was two! At least she got to see her daughter and interact with her. As she stepped closer and allowed some of her aura to wash over her she suppressed it right after. There was no need for it in this town. Then again with so many Roman Demigods in one place it could be a good thing. As Lucy bowed and addressed her she smiled. She really did love her little one so much. She took her hand and lifted her back up to look into her eyes. “I’m glad you’re honored but you won’t need to do that every time love.” She gives her a devious wink and leans in to give her a hug. “I am your mum after all. Now she was able to look her over fully without seeming like a creeper. She offered her some more chocolate and laughs. “Now you know why the chocolate is so good. So tell me, how have you been?”

Lucy looked at her funny when she said the chocolate came from a secret place. She looked down at the slight amount of chocolate on her fingers. For some reason, her mind jumped right to the idea that there might be bugs in it. Which was obviously a horrifying idea. Thank the gods she spoke again and pulled Lucy out of it. She blushed when she said she had a good singing voice. “I was that loud?” How incredibly embarrassing. She focused hard and forced herself to calm down. Actually something she was quite good at considering her heritage.

Then the bomb dropped. This was Lady Pax. She bowed low. Then she found herself being made to look up. She straightened. Then a hug. This was getting weird. She was being hugged by an immortal. Sure, it was her mom, but it was still an immortal. After a half second, she hugged her back, a little cautiously. Was it okay to hug a goddess? Then again, Pax seemed the kind who didn’t care. After all, she had initiated it. Wow, she was over examining this, wasn’t she? She smiled at her. “Yes, I suppose you are. This is… amazing. I’m really honored.”

Then she mentioned the chocolate again and Lucy laughed, her fear of eating bugs gone. This was Olympian chocolate. It probably had ambrosia in it for all she knew. “Thank you,” she said, still in that surreal state trying to come to terms with the fact this was her mom. “I’m… good. Except the fighting part. That I’m not good at!” She had a feeling this would not be news to her mother. After all, it was kind of hereditary. Peace at war? Yeah right. “So… what brings you to New Rome?” She was curious. She periodically heard of gods at camp. She never thought she’d meet her mother though. It just kind of… never occurred to her. She didn’t know why it didn’t. It just… didn’t. It was nothing against her mother, of course. It just seemed the gods she heard about coming here wanted to cause trouble. So she never pegged her mother as wanting to visit. Peace didn’t cause trouble. Apparently she offered good chocolate though.

Being here with Lucy was a good thing; she hadn’t been able to actually just be around one of her children in a really long time. Now that the ban was lifted she would be able to spend time with her daughter and grandson. She wanted to see Lucy succeed in life and this play she was going to be in would be good for her! She wanted her daughter to outshine one of Venus’s daughters. When she asked if she was singing that loud she laughs shaking her head. “Nope, I just have some really good hearing. Some of the best hearing in camp actually.” Which that wasn’t a lie! Divine hearing after all, she could hear a lot going on around here but she pegged out Lucy’s voice over everyone.

The one thing she didn’t want happening was her daughter bowing to her, she was her daughter after all! She could save the bowing stuff for the other gods and goddesses. In this moment she was a mother and not a goddess. She grins as Lucy finally speaks; she reaches up and gently strokes her cheek. “I think it should be I who is honored Lucy. The fact we’ve never been able to interact with our children until now. It really hurts to have to watch from far away.” She wanted to be around more and now she would be! She was going to see her family!

“You’re welcome, which in fact I’d love for you to have what’s left.” There was still a lot left and she held out the chocolate bar without a second thought. There were more at home so this one wouldn’t be missed. Anyone that knew her well knew that chocolate was the best way to get her attention when at her alters. That and anything dealing with peace of course. When she said that she wasn’t good at the fighting part she smiled. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, neither am I. But when I have to I do have armor and a sword for fighting when we go to war. Like with the war against the Titans, one of the few times I actually fought. There’s no shame in not fighting though, you’re a child of peace and this is your time to shine.” Sometimes to get peace though you had to go to war.

What brought her to New Rome? Well that was an easy answer. She was here for Lucy and Ken. She wanted to spend some time with them! “Well sometimes we need breaks from Olympus, that and with the fact we can see our kids again. Sooo, I might have bought an apartment here so I can spend time in camp. Besides everything’s better when peace is around seeing as you’re not in a state of war, I figured it would be nice to be here.” She wanted to just be here and see other people, interact with them. When you only had the same people to talk to for thousands of years it did get kind of boring.
