Noah was pretending to study, but that was not what he was doing. He was brainstorming. He had a great opportunity coming up and he didn’t want to mess it up. He had flipped to the back of his notebook, a page already spotted with doodles here and there. One of them was even of his lovely wife. He didn’t claim to be good, but he tried.

He moved to an empty spot on the sheet and got to work. Famous couples. But in a good way. That was what he was after. He even added Bonnie and Clyde just because they were kind of cool in their own way. Some historic, some not so much. He tried to take Jill’s likes into account. Daughter of Victoria who worked a very important job here in town. He could go with that ever-loved Romeo-Juliet-esque story of the gladiator and the senator’s daughter who fell in love. There were several movies with that sort of theme. Arthur and Guinevere, ignoring the whole Lancelot thing. That sort of duos. He tapped his pen to his chin as he reviewed it. He couldn’t wait for her to get home and give her thoughts!

She was getting home soon, the thought snapped to the forefront. He closed his notebook in a hurry and ran to the kitchen. That’s right, he was going to have dinner ready for her! Foolish Noah, getting wound up in the future and forgetting about the now! He got the beef out of the fridge and got to cutting it into ribbons and putting it in the pan before the pan even had a chance to get warm. He washed his hands and wiped the water on his jeans before going back to the fridge to get the veggies. Hurry, man!

It had been a really hard day at work, Jillian had to scold a pair of teens that were playing around while driving a circus cart, well that was stupid. She knew it and they for sure know it now. She had to scold them and punish them, the one hundred push ups, one mile run and 30 minutes holding themselves from a bar without touching the ground would be a fine warning for them for the next time they would want to play in a circus cart. But who knew, some teens were rather eager to prove themselves, prove that they were worthy enough. In her mind, now that she was older, was a stupid thought.

She walked to the showers and got rid of the muddy clothes, then got a nice, hot shower. She then dressed up with clean, fresh clothes and grabbed her muddy clothes, she put them inside her gym bag and then grabbed it to leave. She was hungry and the idea of her husband’s delicious food was what kept her going in a moment where she was demolished, like that one. As she walked out she saw the two teens walking into the dressing rooms and she smiled shaking her head. She found it funny the way they were walking into the rooms, as if a Chimera had ran over them. They looked at her and one glared furiously, the other just smiled at her. She nodded at them and left.

She walked down the road from the colloseum to the place where the building where she lived with Noah was. She opened the door and walked in, she went to the stairs and then she went up to their apartment. She looked for her keys as she was running upstairs, when she got to the door, she opened the door and walked in. “Love I’m home!” She said as she left her gymbag next to the door and then closed it with a lock. Then walked in and looked around for him, she saw his books and notebooks on the table, she smiled at the fact that he was studying very hard.

Noah was rushing about the kitchen as fast as he could. Thank goodness he was finally greeted by the smell of cooking meat, which could only mean that pan had finally gotten hot! He chopped veggies more and more, then put the knife down and scooted to the pan and stirred and flipped the meat slices. They would need white wine. He went to the fridge and peeked inside. There was a bottle of white zinfandel there, about half finished. It would do. He’d keep it in there to stay chilled.

Back to the veggies. Cutting cabbage into inch squares at the moment. Little this, little that. He ate a piece for good measure as he usually did when he was cooking. Stir the meat, cut the cabbage, add some sauce to the meat… he had a rhythm here. He was too late though.

He looked up from the cutting board. “Dear, in here!” No! He had started too late! He mentally scolded himself. He had so wanted it ready and served when she got home. It would be at least another five minutes! Perhaps she got home earlier, he tried to console himself, but there was no use. Well, at least they could have a nice talk while he finished, maybe? He dumped the cut cabbage in the pan and went on a cray stirring spree. The whole kitchen smelled of stir-fry, and he had a feeling it was leaking out into the hall. Surely he couldn’t hide this one, so might as well invite her in to his cooking hidey hole.

The stirring got a little tedious and he grumbled in annoyance at the familiar feeling. “Second thought… I might need your help with something really quick…” His tone of voice was as ashamed as his expression. It was something she could probably figure out from the few embarrassing times it had happened, just from seeing like this. He could tell his metal arm would not keep functioning properly stirring like this for even another five minutes if he did not get some lubricant in it. Annoying facts of being part machine.
