James came back to New Rome after some months of being out in the open sea in his ship the Jolly Monster. He loved to be out there more than anything in the world… well almost anything. He had a very strong reason to come back. He knew that Rome was in peace those days, but he had heard in those journeys of his that there was something dark and evil coming to New Rome. Even when most of the times were just dark whispers from mermaids and spirits, but some few times they were real. He wanted to check on Camp Jupiter, on New Rome.

So he walked down the tunnel and showed the guards that he got nothing wrong on his sailor’s bag. Then he continued his path. Before leaving his bag in the small apartment that he owned in the City, he went to look around, check if everything was as expected in a military camp in times of peace. He went to the fields of Mars, as always the cohorts training there, Charlie Mack was there… He sighed and shook his head. He knew that he didn’t have a chance, the moment he left Camp months ago, he knew it, he heart wasn’t hers anymore, but the one she loved. He would let her be with the one she had chosen.

He then decided to leave his bag in his apartment and go to the little tiber after that. He got to his apartment and opened the door, it was a very small one, like the small apartments in Japan, one room, and a complete bathroom, kitchenette in the same main room. Well for a single guy that loved the sea, wasn’t a problem. He threw the bag on a side and then went out again. He walked down the streets and decided to go and buy some flowers for his mother, maybe he would throw some to the river and left others in her temple.

He bought the flowers with in the flower shop of that woman that was considered a traitor, Evelyn. He didn’t care if she was or not, she had paid for her crimes and was living in a peaceful way. Then he walked to the River and stood there looking at it. He started throwing petal by petal of a lily to the river, praying so the currents take them to his mother, but he knew that probably they wouldn’t, reason why he would go to the temples later.

Orwell had been in new Rome the whole day, she had the day off so it hadn't been to bad. She had walked among the streets of new Rome, just feeling the walls and trying to find her way around. Like she did in her flat, she could walk around in her own flat without bumping into anything at all. The streets was worse though, but she liked to familiar herself with them. Even now three years later she still wasn't able to go out on the streets without her blind walking stick that if she pushed the right button became a sword. They had made it special for her so she still would be able to fight and not have to look for a weapon if she had to fight.

Somehow after making her way around new Rome she had ended up by the lake. Moving off her shoes and socks and sitting down by the water putting her legs in the water, she was soon just laying there feeling the water on her legs.

She had almost fallen a sleep when she feels something tickle her legs. Orwell sat up and brought a hand down in the water, she moves her hand up and felt the lily Pental in her hand and a gush of wind blew the smell of Sea and boat to her nose. That only meant one thing, James was back.

A big smile came to her face as she grabbed a hold of her white Cain and shoes. She didn't even bother to put them on before she walked over to where she though he was. She then stops and listens to try and find out where in the world he was hiding.

She then rolled her mist green eyes, and says. "You know... If I didn't know any better. Then I would think you didn't want to say hello to me." She says it in a soft voice with a big smile on her face, she knew that James had been trough a lot. Orwell hadn't want to intervene after whatever happen with him and Charie, Orwell has after all had a crush on James for years. Not that she dared to tell him that though, but still. She really didn't want to be a rebound.

She then took a step forward. And some how tripped over her own feet and straight into James, a fainted blush covered her cheeks and she whispers. "Am so sorry.." And at the same time tries to steady her feet on the ground. Curse her clumsiness. And God he smells good.

The sound of the river brought James some of the peace that usually he didn’t have on firm land. For him it was very difficult to find peace anywhere, even in the sea. His mother was Keto, goddess of the sea of monsters, therefore when he was out of that place he never felt right, he was always looking over his shoulder, he hardly ever slept well, but by the river that had currents from the seas, he could feel a little bit that his mother was close to him. Maybe he would sleep there that night instead of his apartment that wasn’t that close to the river… maybe not.


Suddenly a voice brought him back to reality from his mind’s secret world. He didn’t have to look at the person that was talking to him, he knew her well. Orwell was the name of the girl, well woman, talking to him in that moment. She was a very brave woman, fine warrior and incredible listener, at least with him. “Orwell…” He smiled and looked at her. “It wasn’t my intention, my mind was far away from here.” He said explaining her why he hadn’t had spoken to her before that moment.


Suddenly she tripped onto him and he moved just in time to hold her so she didn’t fall that hard. “Hey, Hey, Love… I know I’m irresistible, but you don’t have to literally fall for me, you know?” He chuckled hoping she knew it was a joke… well, most of it was a joke. He ususally did that kind of joke with women, and usually they blushed and giggled, he had that kind of charm, but with Orwell... well she knew him before her injury, and that is why he joked with her still when she couldn't see him anymore.

Orwell's laughter filled the wind as he said that it hadn't been his intention. Of course it hadn't, and she knew this so she didn't really think much of it. After all she had known him long enough, and knew he sometimes drifted off into his own head not really seeing much else then the things that was going on in there. "I know you James. So it's okay." She then answer him with a hint of amusement in her voice.

Orwell simply shakes her head making her red curls fall around her face as she laughs. "Darling, you are really to much." She then says as she steady herself on her feet holding onto his bisep as she tries to not blush as he shows his charming side. "I've fallen for you to many times to count dear James. So I guess my question to you is... when will you trip and fall for me huh?" She then asks as she could feel his eyes on her, and that wonderful smell of the ocean that he always seem to have around himself seems to take her over.

She then bites her lip for a moment before she lift her head as she speaks the next few words.

"How long are you staying this time?" She liked to know when and if he was coming back she enjoyed talking to him after all. She stepped a little closer to him and then wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him close. "I've missed you." She then adds and just holds onto him for a moment.

She then steps back, and a smile forms on her lips. "Maybe... if you know.. that your not that busy then maybe you would join me in drinking tea at my house..." she then stepped out of the hug and waits for him to say something.

James chuckled when she asked when would he fall for her. Well, that is something that he could easily be answered, he had fallen for her a long time ago. But he knew he wasn’t a good man, he wasn’t the right one for her! She needed a man who would stay with her, who would always be there for her, not someone that was always leaving the safety of Camp to find any kind of adventure or simply to go and visit a goddess that wasn’t the best friend of the God of the seas. He knew that he wasn’t an option at all, of course he hadn’t thought about asking her, because… what scared him was that she actually said yes… what if she gotten even more injured, because of him?

He didn’t answer to her question he just kissed the top of her head and held her tighter, he wanted his body to express what his lips couldn’t, he wanted her to know she was important, very important to him, but for the same reason he couldn’t dare hurting her. Then after her next questions she sighed and replied to her. “Well, I’ll stay for a couple of months, maybe by May or June I’ll leave again.” He said and then let her move as she pulled back. He smiled looking at her, she was so strong, yet so delicate. “Why Love?” He asked with a slight hint of hope that she wanted to spend some time with her.

He listened to her invitation and nodded, he knew she wouldn’t see the nod, it was more to him. He agreed to it, He wanted to feel what it was to be a land man for at least the moments he spent with her. “Tea… I’d be honored to share a cup of tea with the most beautiful girl of Camp.” He smiled and took her hand and kissed it, he did it in the most gentle way, then he looked back at her and chuckled, Maybe she was one of the only women not only in Camp, but in the world, that he talked to in such way.

Orwell tries to not react as James don't answer her right away, she wonder if he is thinking about it or something and if he don't answer she can pretend that it was only a joke since she had said it in such casual way. A smile then form on her lips when he said that he would stay untill maybe may or June, she step back and move her hand up to his cheek from his chest and up to his cheek. She moves her tumb over his cheek softly and move her head up so that she could smile to him.

His stubble was against her tumb. She kind of enjoyed the feel of stubble against her skin. "Why I have missed you?" She then asks with a laugh, "gosh, I though you were smart darling. You are one of my oldest and best friends. Of course I miss you when you are gone. I enjoy our time together way to much." She then told him and move her hand away from his cheek, she wanted to say more but didn't say anything. After all she was unsure if he would even ever date her, she was the blind best friend that had always been there but nothing had happen.

He then calls her beautiful and she just stands there in shock, "w...what?" She then asks and moved a bit closer to him and then hug him again before she step back and take his hand in hers. "Come on, time for tea..." She then said as she try to brush of the feeling that he had called her beautiful for a reason.

"So uhm.... Jem.... what kind of tea would you like?" She then asks with a small pink blush on her cheeks.

James looked at her and smiled, he knew she couldn-t see his smile, but long ago he was told that when one spoke to someone that could only listen to your voice, it was very important to smile. when one smiled as talking, that smile was also reflected on the voice, by some reason. He was told that when Orwell recently lost her sight, he was lost and didn-t know how to help her, how to be there for her!! it was a nightmare not knowig, but there was a cute blondie medic, she told him so and he had done it since that moment. Always smiling at Orwell when he spoke to her, so she could also listen to a nice smile in his voice.

"Well, I know I am. But it is always nice to be reminded of that, you know?" he said and then he simply chuckled, she was doubting of his words! How could she think that she wasn't the most beautiful girl he knew? well, maybe he was the one to blame there? he had never told her so before, he had always dated other girls, other women... others. But what if he tried to stay now in camp for her? what if he really wanted to try something different with her? maybe she would think he was crazy, but maybe... well He would pray to Venus for that.

"Yes lady, you are beautiful and about that tea..." He thought for a moment and then sighed, he had neve been a man of tea. He liked always some... stronger drinks, but well, why not to try some good english or asian tea? "maybe... well you show me the one you like the most" He smiled and lopped her arm in his so they could walk away.

She heard his small chuckle when she stutter at him and then a nice red blush covered the girl’s cheeks. She was indeed not used to him flirting with her, sure he talked in the most beautiful way but he never flirted with her or called her beautiful so she tried to calm her nerves and takes a breath. She gasps once more when he called her beautiful again. “I..uhu no...I’m normal...” she then say and can feel herself blushing, she goes warm all over and is sure she looks like a tomato or something similar like that.

She moves her head up when he said the last part however, she could hear the hesitation in his voice and got unsure if he wanted tea or not. She could feel his muscles trough his jacket and moves her head up and offer him a smile when he holds onto her arm and they started to make their way towards her home. “Well.. we could always go to my place, I mean instead of going out, I have all the tea’s you can think of…. I kind of enjoy them all” she then said fast and gulps as they walk down the street, she then stop and holds onto his arm for a moment as she let down her shoes so she can up them on, all along holding onto James arm to keep herself from falling over.


She then stands up ad throw some of her long red curly hair away from her shoulder and then moves closer to James and moves a hand up to his cheek again and lets her thumb go over his cheek, and she then smiles again. “I don’t know exacly how you look now.. but I remember how you looked before, and I’m guessing you are even more handsome now dear….so thanks for calling me beautiful but you really don’t have to take a pity in me dear Jem.” She then said before she moves her hand slowly away from his cheek to move it around him to give him a hug.

James chuckled and shook his head, he knew what he was looking at, he wasn't blind, and he didn't want to bother or hurt Orwell with his words, but he wasn't blind, he knew she was beautiful, maybe more beautiful than anyone he had seem before, in camp or his travels. But she didn't believe him that she was beautiful!! How bad should be the image she had of herself that she didn't remember how beautiful she was and had always been. He didn't like that she couldn't even know how much more beautiful she was!!

He smiled when she paassed her thumb over his face. "I'm older, that's all, but yeah I'm still handsome and all." He laughed, because he was cocky, but never about his looks. He was laughing when she said that he didn't have to speak with pity to make her feel a beautiful woman, because she is! He grunted and then shook his head. "I wish you had my eyes, so you could look yourself in a mirror and see what I see." He said and shook his head again, this time rolled his eyes at her words and then not speaking for some minutes.

"Orwell, love. you are beautiful, inside and outside, I would never disrespect you by tellng you lies." He said and rubbed her cheek with his thumb. "I see only perfection." He said as they walked and smiled. "Come on, a tea would be good, or a good whiskey, but I better have the whiskey than the tea." chuckled and then kwpt walking.

Orwell smiles as she heard James chuckle, she bites her lip for a moment and moves her head down, it was like she was fearing that he was staring at her, she had never really felt beautiful before and she did not feel beautiful noe, but under his gaze she did feel something. 

She move her thumb over his face softly, feeling how his face felt under her thumb. A big smile form on her lips when she felt the beard underneath her hand, She moves her fingers softly over his chin and then laugh when he said that he was handsome. "I believe you dear Jem." She then said to him and moved her hand away from his face, fearing that she had gone to far, she did however have a pretty good idea about how he looked now. And in her mind he was beautiful.

A sad smile form on her lips when he told her that he wished that she had his eyes so she could see how beautiful she was. "If I had your eyes... then I would want to see the sky again on a sunny day... or see the ocean again... the beautiful ocean." She then whisper softly, then move her hand up to his cheek again.

She let's out a small breath when she felt him moving his tumb to her cheek. She gives him a sad smile when he said he only saw perfection. "No one is perfect my dear Jem... no one can live up to that."  She then whispred softly then wraps one of her arms around him and leaned against his shoulder as they started to make their way towards her house.

She gives out a soft laugh. "Oh, you know I have whisky. I always keep a bottle hidden for you." She then said with a small laugh.

They walk for about 30 minutes until they need up outside of her dark blue door.

"So ready to get drunk and pass out on my clutch like the old days?" She then asks and grin up to him.
