Kit had been quite angry. Six months ago! Now she was a strong, independent woman who didn’t need jack squat. So here she was in a little garden she’d made herself at the edge of the forest. She had her hands dug deep in the dirt in front of where she sat, urging the ground to yield one more harvest. So far, so good. Green vines were curling up from the ground with big, broad leaves popping out as if in a time lapse. Flowers bloomed here and there, enjoying the spot of sunshine she’d picked just for them. A light breeze blew. She wished her mom were here. That would be fun. A lot of the gods had started visiting their kids after the lift of the ban. Ceres, however, apparently didn’t give a crap.
Who cared though. Kit didn’t need her mom. She didn’t need Kenshin if he was just going to-… to-… to do whatever the heck he’d been doing all summer. She didn’t need Hydee either. None of them! The plant twitched as her anger swelled, the flowers starting to droop as her power poured into it. She wasn’t alarmed, though. They were supposed to droop. The blooms fell off onto the ground in withered heaps like silk. Then the tiniest balls started growing where they’d been. Bright green, darkening, darkening as they grew. At this point there were about the size of a tennis ball. She kept urging them on. The sunlight gleamed on the November harvest coming to life right here.
They didn’t look a thing like it, but they would. For she was going to make the freshest pumpkin pie ever known to man. And most likely it would just be for her. So be it.
