It had been a long day, though to say that it was long was an understatement. Charlie had just been up to the principia, mostly it was to turn in her resignation. She was resigning as the centurion of first cohort. If you had told her that she would be resiging, she probably would have hit you around the head and told you were a moron. She thought that her life would be the legion. She would always be in the legion, she was a daughter of war. But she had been looking at some classes at the university, but the biggest reason, well it was growing inside her at the moment. It had been quite a long road and it had it's ups and downs, but she and Mors were quite happy together. She wrapped her hands around her midsection as if she was protecting it. Charlie really never thought that this day would come. But it had, she sat there on the deeply green grass. She had many other things to think about right now and the biggest and smallest thing ended with her. She knew there had been others that had become parents, like Clare. She had the cutest little girl in the world. What kind of mother would she be? The thought totally scared her.
It was cold, well, cool-ish. She had remembered times like this when it was in North Carolina, it was much colder most of the time. But even though the water was cool and it was warmer, she still stuck her toes in the water. Her jeans rolled up around her ankles and her boots and socks sitting to the side as she had felt the cold water as she leaned back. But she had a home in New Rome to go back to. It was such a strange thing, going to a home, her home. The home that belonged to her and Mors. Well at least it would be his home as long as he wanted it to. It was odd for her, that she had been in a barracks for so long, around so many people, and now the house was quiet. It wouldn't be that way for long, that was for sure. She took in a deep breath, she had to get some books. She loved books. There were a thousand and one things that she needed to know, that she wanted to know. She didn't want to be that crazy mom who couldn't cook. Or the one that ordered take away ever night.
Take away. That sounded good. What kind of take away was the real question. There were so many shops and resturants that had popped up in New Rome and she hadn't even had a chance to figure out which one was her favorite. She did like that shop that the boy from fifth cohort was working, the little coffee shop and bakery. They had the best pasteries. Maybe she'd go there and get a box of something and bring it back. Not to mention that the house was still a bit barren. Not that she didn't have the ability, but it was just her. There were like four boxes of cereal and two gallons of milk. It wasn't exactly a balanced diet, but she was just one person, it seemed that having a full pantry or fridge was a waste of money. That's why Take away was such a god send.
