Kit walked with a bounce in her step. She’d started her day with tough training. Then a leisurely soak in the heated baths. The weather was just fine, but she was wearing one of her favorite scarves because why not? It was a fashion statement. The only fashion she could actually agree with. Her red hair blew in the light breeze, clashing horribly with her red light sweater. She had a tangerine in her hands as she peeled the skin off, tossing the pieces into the field beside the via. Tangerine peels were compostable, they’d be fine. Add nutrients to the soil. She popped the first slice in her mouth and chewed as the juice burst out and brought a smile to her face.
She vaguely wondered where Kenshin might be at this moment. Probably training. He was a really good fighter. Very skilled. And looked really good in a kimono, as she’d discovered on Valentine’s Day. And he was very romantic! She smiled to herself as she remembered their wonderful day together, then popped another piece of tangerine in her mouth. He was a good guy. In fact, he taught her that there were heroes in the world. Sure, you heard about them in the ancient stories, but those stories came from so long ago. Ken, though, he was a hero. Forget suits of armor and white horses. Apparently real heroes wore kimonos and lived in Roman camps.
Completely lost in thought, her ungraceful self tripped on a big rock and she made a fool of keeping herself from falling. She turned and glared at the rock as though it had insulted her. Then let out a short breath and kept walking, this time keeping her mind out of the clouds. Gods, she hoped no one had seen that.
