Appearance ;; Edmund stands approximately 5'8" and at 148 pounds. He has a good, healthy build, although he is a bit on the skinnier side. Ed's developed good, overall strength mostly from strenuous first cohort drills, sword fighting, forging, and natural strength given to the children of Vulcan; he has also remained quick on his feet from his fights at school. He has dark brown (close to black) hair and dark brown eyes. He always has an emotionless look on his face (it matches the tone of voice he always uses) and the chances of seeing him smile are about as slim as the 2012 apocalypse. When he’s in a mood, he usually looks near to unapproachable. He had a few scars coming into camp: one on his left arm from continually pulling out an IV and then "accidentally" (?) opening the wound; he also has burn scars (skin grafts) on both of his lower legs; he wears long pants, year round to cover them. From camp, he has some scars from sword training on his sword (right) arm; he also has SPQR, along with Vulcan's symbol (he hates it), and seven bars.
Personality ;; Upon first glance and to a stranger, Edmund is a serious son of Vulcan with a fiery personality to match. It is so much so, that, sometimes, he can be almost confused with a child of Mars or Pluto. He is rough, rude and can be rather sarcastic and mean; he can also be cunning, malicious and resourceful, although that's usually reserved for when he's really angry. Ed is short tempered, temperamental, cold, angry, and snappy with most (if not all) people. He is quick to judge, pessimistic, cynical, negatively blunt, and closed minded, but he usually accepts people for who they are without trying to change them. He is reckless most of the time and never thinks anything through. He just acts impulsively, irrationally, jumping head first into any situation.
99% of the time, Edmund comes off as emotionless (or as Charlie calls it "emotionally constipated"). His face is usually blank and his tone of voice flat; if he does let himself feel anything, it comes out as anger or coldness. Along with being snappy and curt most of the time, Edmund isn't that great with showing his positive emotions. He’s more the "tough love" to no love at all type. On the whole, he hates mushy, affection giving moments and is quick shy away from a hug or gentleness. As a matter of fact, besides physical contact from fighting, Edmund does not like anyone touching him (it will result in a knife or punch getting thrown at the offender). He fully acknowledges (and knows) that he can be (and is) a complete and utter jerk. This being the case, he is usually the first to correct someone if they say otherwise. If he is thanked or complemented, he just brushes it off with a wary stare and a cynical, short response. Going along with that, his speech pattern usually consists of direct, short, curt, to the point, no sugar coated, no beating around the bush answers. He doesn't waste his breath on something he thinks unnecessary. Overall, he prefers silence over talking.
Edmund is also very antisocial and suspicious of everyone. In a sense, some could call him paranoid. He's an introvert and forge recluse. He'd prefer to stay in quiet solitude rather than be among talking people. While he has near zero patience for other human beings, he has near infinite patience for any/all forge projects (basically all inanimate objects). He absolutely detests attention and will start fidgeting if more than one person is present with him. Since he hates being around from other people, he's also taken into slipping away to isolated places if a crowd comes; he can do so now rather easily. From all the years of being "fine", he has also become a fluent lier and would rather pent up all his emotions rather than talk. All set backs aside, Edmund is brave, bold and isn't afraid to voice is opinion or stick up for the underdog. He has a passion for using his godly powers (even though he denies relationship to the one who gave him them); crafting is one of the few things that can make him "happy". It is VERY rare (if not impossible) for him to trust others and let them "in". Although he pushes people who even remotely like him away, if they can forgive him, have A LOT patience and overlook his flaws, they have a shot at having him show his kinder nature.
Lastly, Ed's near to unyieldingly stubborn. Once a thought is planted in his head or a judgment made, he's not budging on it. He doesn't care if other people agree or disagree with him, if he's the popular or (more times than not) the unpopular opinion, he will take it to the grave. Another thing that he will take to hell and back with him are grudges; if anyone majorly ticks him off or just rubs him the wrong way (by either doing or saying something he doesn't like), he makes it his business to make the offender's life as miserable as possible. Edmund also blatantly detests all authoritative figures and can get rather rebellious when it comes to rules and regulations. He prefers taking the more belligerent route, believing that people should get what they deserve.
Powers ;; Edmund is the average forge monkey: an expert smith, forger, craftsman, and mechanic by genericshe doesn't claim to have Vulcan generics, but that's besides the point. He is also very strong (from generics, forging, and just the Legion in general). Related to his work in the forge, he has the ability to sense machines, mechanics, metal, and faults in metal ores. Knowledge of a machine, how to work it, and its uses are at his fingertips (quite literally, since all he has to do is touch it to get the information). Edmund also has the ability to sense and locate traps in the ground. Lastly, he possesses technokinesis, which allows him to telepathically "communicate" with/manipulate machines and technology. He can also "call" any technology based invention to him. From the Discordia side, Ed can only perform a dimmed version of being able to cause strife. However, he can only do it between himself and another person, and, well... isn't that his personality already? At home, his mother could help him control that power. Hence, when he was little, he was much nicer. After she died, and Ed got stuck with Em, all control went out the window. The inability to control the strife has probably contributed significantly to his personality.

History ;; THEN - Alexis Smith met Vulcan while working for a non-profit, old fashioned weaponry club. It was one of the only organizations that would make their weapons from scratch, and then actually use them, and teach with them. It was almost like a little medieval club, and Alexis loved it. After Vulcan came to a meeting or two, she finally noticed that he was looking at her. As in looking. She finally plucked up her nerve, gave herself twenty seconds of insane courage, and said hi. One thing led to another, and, three months later, Alexis got the news she was pregnant. Vulcan left soon after that, not even telling her that he was a god. Alexis of course, was distraught, but was able to pick up the pieces. Six months later, on March 25, Edmund was born, kicking and screaming, into the world. Alexis was over joyed, and finally realized that she couldn't just work for a non-profit group if she was to support both herself, and her son. That being said, she took up a job in computer programming, where she met her husband, James Simons. It was easy for her to fall truly in love again: James was charming, smart, and technologically brilliant. It was all a whirlwind, really. Within a year, she got married, and fell pregnant again. As a belated 2nd birthday present, Edmund got a little sister, Meghan, on April 5.
Edmund's childhood was like any demigod child's. Moving from school to school. He was never able to stay in one place for long since he'd either break rules or the teachers would get too frustrated with his combined ADHD and dyslexia. By the time he was 8, nearly every school in the surrounding knew about him: a troubled child who couldn't sit still for five seconds and had horrible reading skills. As he grew older, he increasingly became the easy target for bullies. He was that new kid who had been to multiple schools, who had a hard time reading, who needed an attitude adjustment. Whereas some people would of become shy and down hearted, Edmund got tired of the abuse. He started to lash out and retaliate: standing up for himself, and putting up a "I don't give a crap" attitude. Some of the reasons he got kicked out of school wasn't really his fault: like that time he was in Kindergarden and whacked a chair over a fellow student's head because he said that it was a really scary fairy with pointy teeth, or when he was in 3rd grade and accidentally caused a fire.
At home, he couldn't have been a more different person. Edmund had a great home life. He was an absolute mush around Meghan and loved his parents with all his heart. He'd play with his younger sister whenever she wanted, looked after her, and was a very protective big brother. He loved her all the more since she was someone who wouldn't judge him. Of course, his parents were always confused about his little...incidents, but loved him all the same. It did cause some frustration and stress, moving from school to school, but they always hoped that they could finally find a permanent one. While he was growing up, Alexis, and James always noticed there was something... different about their son. The way he would off handedly make things that looked like it was made like a professional; how he could easily fix a computer: take it apart, and then put it back together; how intense he looked whenever they used the fireplace. They didn't exactly think of them as problems though, more like gifts. The two gifts they did not like were the two kids that followed him home (on different occasions: once when he was in 5, again when he was 7) and ended up getting pummeled because they were "monsters".
Then there was that one night that changed everything. On March 25, the day he turned nine, Edmund had a nightmare, and an electrical fire was sparked in the basement. Ed seemed to have sensed it before everyone else and woke up before the fire alarm went off. By the time everyone was up and running downstairs, the fire had already gotten into the living room and had blocked off the doors. One of the flames ended up jumping and burning the ceiling. Their grandfather clock chimed 3 AM before falling over. To this day, all Edmund remembers is the clock falling, the ceiling caving in, and everything around him crashing. Firefighters got there five minutes later, as telephoned by some neighbors. They found Edmund hiding yards away, with serious third degree burns along his legs and minor burns on his feet, arms, and hands. Everyone else in what remained of the house was rushed to the hospital; none of them made it through the night. The firefighters found Meghan trapped in a pile of debris with her right wrist out; her entire arm was burned, except for an imprint of a hand around her wrist. It was matched to Edmund.
From that day forward, Edmund became mostly how he is today. Via will, he got sent to an aunt that he had only seen on holidays; who frowned upon his track record with school and who didn't particularly like him; to further help things, he didn't particularly like her himself. His angrier/defensive nature took over, with no Meghan, mother, or father to calm him down. Edmund spent a little over a month in the hospital getting treated for the third degree burns he got (his lower legs got totally destroyed and had to get skin grafts); he was also diagnosed with PTSD and started feeling the effects of survivors guilt, both of which he still has to this day. Ever since the skin graft surgery, he has taken to wearing long pants, year round. Edmund didn't take to his extended hospital stay well at all. He ended up hating doctors and medical personnel. He would repeatedly pull out his IV (one time he pulled it the wrong way and it left a long, skinny scar). He also needed to be sedated often (mostly because of flash back episodes and him needing to stay still). After the month long hospital visit, he was able to go to Em's house and was ordered to stay home to recuperate and continue therapy. A few days after his release, the Simons' wake/funeral took place. Edmund didn't go, and to this day, has never gone to their gravesite.
As opposed to staying in the house all day with Em (and against doctors' orders), he went back to school. Of course, he nearly flunked right out, and had to go to summer school again. The cycle started all over again. Even though he was in a new town, it was the same situation. New kid who couldn't sit still, who couldn't read, who couldn't get above a D in any given class. To make matters worse, he was also the kid who would limp/stagger with every step he took since his legs were no where near healed properly; he had refused to use a wheelchair or crutches and he didn't exactly stay on track with this pain medication or therapy. It certainly made him an easier target: people could literally push him around now. He also got another infamous title as the inside child who would wear long pants even though it was ninety degrees. Edmund couldn't take the teasing, and began snapping all over the place. It became overly frustrating for him since he couldn't physically fight back because of all the pain from his burns. At home, he would recede into his room for hours at a time, just being in solitude; he only showed up for meals and became a near mute. Several times, Em tried to get Edmund to do therapy with a shrink; all times, it failed, and she eventually gave up.
About midway though the school year, the already strained Em/Ed relationship took a turn for the worse. Em found Edmund asleep; his previously healed IV scar open and bleeding rather badly. The nine year old woke up back in the hospital, strapped to a bed, with a police man watching him. Em wanted to know what happened, but Ed repeatedly refused to tell her, claiming that he didn't know what had happened himself. The already sour relationship continued in the ever downward direction as Em experienced a monster attack on Edmund. She watched him relentlessly beat up a physical therapist. After witnessing Ed being a "hallucinatory" and "highly dangerous" child, she started doing research on mental institutions for children; a few days later though, she got a better idea. On Ed's 10th birthday, Em ordered him to pack his bags. She said that she "found" (dreamed about) a Camp that was a special "boarding school" for children who had ADHD, dyslexia, and various other problems. At that point, he didn't care, so he gave in. He knew that she hated him, that they didn't want to be around eachother, and that she was bent on sending him away to a loony bin (he had broken into her computer). The ten year old stalked upstairs and packed his bags. Hours later, he was dumped at the gates of Camp Jupiter, near the Wolf House. He never saw Em again. She never writes and has (in all reality) disowned him as any part of her family; she has completely forgotten about him and is rather happy to have him out of her life.
Upon Camp entrance, he was inspected, and after passing Lupa's judgement, was placed into the first cohort. After a few days, he realized that this wasn't a mental ward: everyone here was just as sane as he was. They all saw monsters, they all had ADHD, they all had dyslexia. Em just wanted an excuse to get rid of him. Or maybe he was just too crazy to know he was crazy and everyone else here was the same way. It took him a while to finally believe all the supposed crap they were telling him. Gods, and powers, and a world he never knew about it. Finally, after a few weeks, he had to accept that it was all true. He stayed far, far away from the infirmary, forges, and fire. Instead, he did the next best thing and took to tending/organizing the armory. When he turned thirteen, the floating symbol of Vulcan appeared over his head and claimed him. Even after Vulcan claimed him, Edmund has never identified himself as his son, and (since day one of being at the Legion) has had a hostile feeling towards all the gods. Similarly, he doesn't hold any true feelings of allegiance towards camp or to his cohort (he still questions why he was let into both). It's safe to say that he has made no friends. After his claiming, Edmund forced himself to start working in the forge, trying to fight through his fear of fire. Since then, he has become more comfortable around the fire, but there are times that the fear comes back...
Throughout the seven years of his stay, thanks to Charlie Mack-Jolly (he got sorted into the first cohort) and her training schedule/drills, he has become a well rounded solider. Not only can he hand to hand better than he could ever do at school, but now he is also rather deadly and accurate with blades in his hands. He has found a love of fighting nearly as much as his love for craftsmanship. During the Battle of Orthys, Edmund participated as much as he could. He was one of the more fortunate demigods that didn't get too badly wounded and stayed upright and fighting to the bitter end.

Sample RP ;;Edmund wasn't exactly sure what it was with him, houses, grandfather clocks, and fire. Actually, he was sure, but he didn't know exactly why he did what he did. Edmund actually hadn't been sure about it since he had started to do it. Which was after he got to Camp and actually had a gigantic fire at his fingertips. He'd find himself making a small scale of his old house, and small scale grandfather clock... and then pitching them straight into the fire when no one was around. If anything, it helped his craftsmanship, fed the forge fire, and improved his throwing aim. The things he would throw into the fire where probably the most detailed things he made, besides Meghan's annual plane. Which reminded him... he still needed to work on that. It still looked like half a regular wood block with incisions and chunks missing. Nothing like a plane yet.
Meghan had loved planes. He thought, with her being a girl and all, that she would of preferred Barbies or whatever girly stuff was out there, but no, she would play with all the different transportation systems that Edmund made. It had cost the Simons a few dining room tables, and after loosing the TV cabinet, they had decided just to get him blocks of wood by the dozen. The basement became his workshop so to speak. With all the small scale trains, planes, bicycles, cars, buildings, and people Ed made, he created a small sized town in their basement as Meg's seventh birthday present. A year later, it all got wiped out. Fuel to the fire. Like this unfortunate, completed, grandfather clock was about to become.
Bullseye. The small clock was in the pit no more than a second before it got engulfed in flames. Ed just stood there, watching the fire turn the intricate designs brown, black, and then disintegrated the wood. With all this aim practice, Edmund was thinking about going into target practice with a different weapon. It'd be a nice change in routine, besides offering himself as camp's personal trinket/weapon maker/fixer. He still wasn't sure why he did that. Perhaps camp was becoming a bit too monotonous for him after five years. Even though the routine had been good for him for the first few years, and he was used to it, it had become a bit dry. Follow the camp schedule, sword fight, train, lurk around camp, be the creepy/observant seen but not heard kid, pick strawberries, go back to the forges, make things, sleep, eat, repeat.
Forging/crafting/smithing, along with fighting/sparring/training are the only things that were keeping him from going insane around here. Using his godly powers and fighting. The only two things that actually make him happy. Anything else was already dead. The people around him were probably enough to drive even the most saint like, patient person crazy. It didn't help that Edmund was not patient with people to begin with. For inanimate objects, he had infinite patience. For people? Near zero. He sighed, taking out his exacto knife, and starting to work on the half block of wood that semi resembled a plane. By April 5th, it would look like a plane. A biplane, to be exact, and he'd have around seven more different types.
