"Mommy, how come no one wants to be my friend?" A four year old Felicity asked as she sat in the seat of a shopping cart at Wal-Mart. Her mom knit her eyebrows in thought, a trait that Felicity picked up well. "Well, you are different from most boys and girls." Her mom said as she grabbed a box of Macaroni and cheese. Felicity tilted her head, making her toddler curls bounce. "Is that bad then. To be different?" Felicity asked. Her mom read the box, trying to think of an answer. "Well, well, if it isn't Ms. Weingarten, and Felicity!" Said the approaching male, Felicitys soccer coach. Soon her mom and coach were engrossed in conversation, no one answered Felicitys question. The toddler stood up in the cart and yelled, no one noticed. So she jumped.
Suddenly she was at camp. Training, learning, having fun. Then Greeks appeared. Hundreds of them, killing campers. After the horror everyone looked at Felicity with hate, even the summoned Greeks and dead comrades. She ran. She found herself shadow-traveling. Going everywhere she had dreamed about. London, Paris, Rome. It was amazing, and no one knew about her, she was able to create a new identity, but monsters attacked. A huge black shadow crept over her, whether it was a monster she didn't know. Thunder sounded and she was struck with an object.
Felicity was screaming. She jerked herself awake and shut up. She was going to end up waking the entire camp. What was wrong with her? She was used to having nightmares, she had had them ever since coming to the legion. Yet, this one just reminded her of all the bad she had experienced. It also reminded her that no matter how hard she tried she wouldn't be able to escape it. She hated that aspect of being a demigod. Exploring the world basically became less of a dream and more of a wish. She wished she was normal and could experience high school and traveling. Oh, the places she would go.
She got out of her bed and felt underneath. She smiled as her hands touched the familiar cardboard of the shoe box. She pulled it out and opened it. Littered inside were pictures of every place you could thing of, as well as any newspaper article about them. Sure, it seemed like a pointless thing, but it kept her anchored, this collection. It was what she wanted to do most in the world, travel. Plus it reminded her that there was more then the Legion out there in the world, even if she was a bit restricted to it. She dumped the contents of the shoe box out and newspaper clippings and picture fell to the floor.
The collection seemed small to most people, but Felicity was only allowed to take what she was able to find, and what no one would miss. Besides, she loved it so what mattered? Felicity scanned the barrack, she had slept in while her cohort went on to a training session, as far as she knew she was alone and no one had passed by to her the scream which awoke her. She turned back towards her collection and gingerly picked up a newspaper article about the recent Olympic Games in London.
