Felicity shivered. It wasn't from the cold, it was a nice easy fifty-five degrees outside. The shiver was because of where she was standing. The Fields of Mars, Camp Jupiters own little war field. Last summer Felicity and a few other campers had had a real tough day, all were insanely tired. Yet they showed no weakness. They were Romans. For Felicity it had already been a stressful day enough after receiving a letter complaining from her mom complaining about how Felicity didn't write her little siblings birthday cards. That day Felicity was weak emotionally and physically. That is when the familiar pull in the gut started. The next thing she knew an army of dead ancient Greek soldier were birthed from the ground and attacked her fellow campers. She yelled at the soldier to stop but by the time she had finally banished them all back to the Underworld there was far too many causalities.
Felicity took a deep breath then felt a cold breeze next to her. She smiled. "Salve Remus!" Felicity exclaimed. Next to her stood a man around his late twenties, early thirties. He had olive mediteranian skin. Black curly hair and a fire in his eyes similar to that which the child of Mars have. He looked almost normal, minus the robes he wore and the faint transparency around him. "Felicity, salve." Remus said softly. "Why come back to a place that brings you sorrow?" He asked in Latin. His voice was gruff.
Felicity sighed and looked at her friend. "The same reason you keep appearing in New Rome. To remember and see the change. I regret what I did here. Do you regret what your brother did to you?" Felicity replied solemnly. She could still hear the screams of her comrades, feel the life force being torn from them in battle. She swore to herself it would never happen again. She looked at Remus as he pondered her question.
"No. It was my destiny to die so that my brother may build the eternal city. Granted he had to be conceited and name it after himself." Remus added with a chuckle. Felicity couldn't help but smirk. Her old friend still confused her. How could one who had died from his brothers hand still not feel hatred. He had been unaccepted. Remus looked at Felicity as if he could read her thoughts. "We had many disagreements on how we wanted to rule, hence why he made the line between our cities. I was foolish to believe he wouldn't keep his word. We were brothers after all. Once I was greeted in the Underworld I was distraught with anger. After the many centuries I know look back at the work he had down in my passing but I can't help but feel it was right what happened to me." Remus said.
Felicity knitted her eyebrows like she often did when she was confused. Something about his story just seemed off. However, in the past seven year since being in New Rome Remus has never once tried to cause it harm. Still she couldn't help feeling weary. "I guess that makes sense. Let's change the subject to something lighter though. All this talk of death just makes me depressed." Felicity said with a laugh. Remus chuckled too. Being the daughter of Pluto you couldn't help but being around death all the time. Eventually the depression goes away and death is suddenly a common every day thing.
