Appearance ;;
Sam stands an unimposing 5’8” and weighs in at around two feathers. She’s a skinny little thing even given her time training in Camp Jupiter. She’d not horribly muscular, but thanks to her mother, is fast and sneaky when need arises. And thanks to her training, is decently strong. She tends to hide her figure, though, under more functional rather than flattering clothes and, despite her less than honorable leaving of the hunters, she still likes to wear some silver, if just a necklace, as homage to the years spent under Diana’s service. Other than that, she tends to prefer jeans and a t-shirt and either sandals or sneakers.
She had deep brown eyes that can either show every emotion in her mind or hide them all depending what she wants and what the situation calls for. Most of the time they’re nice enough, as she doesn’t usually seek out trouble, but there are times her heritage shows up. Her features are slightly on the young side for her age, but she’s perfectly fine with that. Whether this is an effect of being frozen in time so to speak or not, she’s not sure. Her golden hair falls in waves to just below her shoulders, and she usually doesn’t bother much with styling. In her book, running a brush through it is style enough.
Personality ;;
Sam is an interesting mix of all of the cultures and ages she has lived through. At first, it took her a long time to get used to cultural changes, but she is getting better at it. Though she still believes in the ideas of chivalry and great respect for authority, she has understandably changed her original ideas about things such as women’s place in society and also technology. She can be very stubborn about things and does have a bit of a streak of pride in her, most likely from staying with the hunters for so long. Also a treasure from her hunter days, she tends to actually think that women should be entrusted with more than men should in some instances, but these feelings have subsided a little since she has been living at Camp Jupiter.
One thing she fears greatly though, is being alone. She had lived a very long life and has always had a tight knit group that she has been a part of, be it her family or the hunters, and now that she is on her own more, she can sometimes depend on her friends to fill the void that her family and the hunters once held. At the same time, she is cautious to let people in because of how badly it hurts to let them go. But she is working on this. Another oddity about Samantha is that she does steal, but she tries to keep it to a minimum. As when she was with the hunters, she only steals when it is necessary. Or when the mood hits at times. Sometimes she will steal something of someone’s when she feels they deserve it, or when she simply needs the item. It is like second nature to her, but she is never intentionally harmful about it.
Powers ;;
As a child of Laverna, goddess of thieves, cheats, and all sorts of pleasant things like that, Sam is very good at being sneaky. Her current streak is 62 years without being caught, and that is something she is rather proud of. Albeit she doesn’t use her gift an awful lot, but still, that many years is nothing to sneeze at. Another gift from her mother is speed. While she is not as quick as Mercury’s descendants, she is fairly quick on her feet. The major thing that sets her apart from Mercury kids is her inability to teleport, which is standard for Laverna’s children. However, she does have a sharp eye and quick reflexes both from her mother and the camp training to make up for that. Also, from being a part of the Hunters for so long, she had developed excellent archery and close range fighting skills and has the accuracy of most Apollo kids.
Family ;;
Cornelius – father
Laverna – mother, minor goddess
Aria – step-mother
Lucius – step-brother
History ;;
Cornelius was a governor in the Roman Empire living in Athens, married to Aria for several years, who was however, not able to have children. They prayed day and night and sacrificed to the gods until one night, Laverna answered. Under the guise of his wife, she tricked Cornelius and slept with him. Nine months and many prayers later, a baby girl was delivered with a scroll announcing her true heritage. Cornelius and Aria were thrilled at being so blessed by the gods to be given a child, and the girl was named after her father as was family tradition. Other gods were less than pleased at Laverna of all the goddesses to be suddenly receiving extra prayers, so they allowed for Aria to become pregnant herself to take the attention away from the minor goddess and her offspring. All it really did was intensify the whole family’s commitment to the gods, so all in all, it worked to a degree. Cornelia was still hailed a hero and told almost daily she was destined for great things, and Lucius, her brother, was regarded as a gift from the gods as well with equal promise.
Influenced by her aunt, a Vestal Virgin, Cornelia was planning on using her life as a tribute to the gods, when Diana came along. She offered the then 11 year old girl immortality if she joined her hunters. Though it was hard to leave her family and her old life, she agreed and from that day forward never aged a day while the world grew and changed around her. The hunters became her family and she was more than happy to hunt with them for over a thousand years, without much a care in the world. The hunters taught her how to best use her talents from her mother for the betterment of the group and she became somewhat in charge of supplies such as stealing medical things where needed, or the odd treat for the group (she was especially fond of stealing little candies for her hunter family).
Then he came along. The hunters ran into a demigod quest and were forced to work together to defeat a monster, though most of the hunters would insist they could have handled it on their own. But that night, Cornelia was put on watch as they camped near the little group of demigods. And she talked some with one of them, a boy named William, despite the rules against doing so. Without expecting to, she developed an innocent crush on him as she got to know him that night. However, the camp was charged by hellhounds before the sun rose and while the battle was quick, it took its toll. William was killed. And Cornelia was the only hunter to shed a tear. Spotting it and guessing it for what it was, Diana came down hard on the girl and promptly took her immortality and send her away, doomed to never be a part of the hunters again. She changed her name to Samantha to fit in better and tried to get along on her own as best she could.
It was shortly after that that she met her mother. And that was only long enough to be told of a camp she should go to and general directions on how to get to the wolf house. So, dejected but determined, she set off for the wolf house on her own, stealing where needed to stay alive. Her time at the wolf house was short, thankfully, and she got to the camp a little older than most, but already well trained by the hunters and thankfully, already fluent in Latin (and ancient Greek for that matter, as the two were her native tongues). She spent her required ten years in service with little to nothing out of the ordinary until after she retired. Her last few years in the service, she also went to classes at the academia to get a teaching license, so that when she retired, she went right into teaching the children of New Rome Latin and history. That was, until the Titan War came. She returned to service along with several other retired soldiers for the Battle of Orthys when she was 24, helping out with the archers given her centuries of experience. She also helped to bring in the wounded and steal supplies to help recover from the war’s damages. The battle finished, she returned to her teaching job, where she still is today.
