Appearance ;; There’s something awfully charming about a devious smile, and of course this is the most usual expression of Zidane. Of course when the devious charm is attached to a lean, buff body, blonde hair, and soulfully grey eyes, you get the very dynamic looker that is this boy. Sure he isn’t quite as handsome as some of the male Venus kids and legacies, but he certainly keeps himself generating hotness. He is around 5’ 8” which might be kind of short for a guy, but what he lacks in height he makes up for in confidence, litheness, and incredibly agility. His left tanned bicep is where the standard tattoo is located. He sports a caduceus for his father, then SPQR and 8 bars. You know the drill.
In order to maximize his look, Zidane tends to dress in guys tank-tops and cargo pants or jeans for an everyday look, sometimes with a vest thrown on. Occasionally he’ll wear the camp shirt, but only when he’s been too lazy to do his laundry. He’s been known to occasionally dress up for special occasions as well, especially if he thinks it might impress some of the ladies. He also constantly keeps his two short swords, which he named "Alexandros" and "Garnet", on his person because he follows the style of the ancient dimachaeru gladiators, so his outfits almost always include a sword-belt.
Personality ;; You might expect someone who is an expert at thieving to be quiet, behind the scenes, and anti-social, but all of these assumptions completely fail to describe Zidane. He rather requires adjectives such as gregarious, womanizing, nonchalant, debonair, sarcastic, and somewhat licentious. He is more or less known as the camp flirt and has gotten beaten up many, many times for hitting on the wrong girl. He generally doesn’t seem to care about much and will claim to do many things out of boredom. He is very social with people who don’t already hate him (he had made a number of enemies for obvious reasons) and can come off as charming if he puts in an effort. It would be a mistake to forget that he is a son of Mercury, however, because he is incredibly talented at stealing. He doesn’t steal indiscriminately, but if someone legitimately wrongs him or a friend, he won’t hesitate to take things from them as “punishment.” He is banned from several areas of New Rome for taking trinkets and food from random shops, but he generally tries to be a good citizen… when he has the money to be.
Underneath every façade is a network of weaknesses and hidden aspects of a character and Zidane is certainly not an exception. What he won’t tell anyone is that underneath his laid-back demeanor, he actually cares a great deal about what people think of him and is very prone to loneliness. He champions the underdogs and he likes to help people just because he can… Even though he might break a rule or two to do it. He won’t hesitate to defend people he likes in an argument or a fight, even if it ends up getting him beaten up (he’s used to that anyway) or occasionally seriously injured. He is also exceptionally observant as every thief has to be, so sometimes he will give advice to others if he thinks it will help them or piss them off.
Powers ;;
- Fleet-footed: Zidane has agility and speed that can definitely be considered super-natural. This ability allows him to move almost at the blink of an eye in a fight and allows him to perform difficult maneuvers with incredible ease.
- Stealth: While Zidane can't become invisible, he may as well be able to. He has the thieves' gift of knowing where to be to not be seen, and when he focuses, he can make little to no sound when he moves, which contributed a great deal to his old pranks and tomfoolery.
- Teleportation: Under duress, and even at will, Zidane has the ability to teleport. Short distances are no problem, but anything more than about 11 miles has been known to affect his coordination and leave him with a bad spell of vertigo for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
Family ;; Mercury (Father)
Gina Quinn (mother)
Daniel Baku (adoptive-father figure)
Zack Remington (adopted brother)
History ;; It’s hard to know what exactly attracts Mercury to a particular conquest. Is it just being pretty? Is it someone who is incredibly fast on their feet? Or is it the world’s best female thieves? One way or the other, it came to pass that the god of thieves, mail, and taking people to their afterlife took a liking to Gina Quinn, an infamous participant in the unsavory society of Reno, Nevada. It was there that she was involved in group that was known for committing auto-theft and selling the vehicles on the black market for cash. She’d been involved in the “business” since she was fifteen because she’d run away from a very bad home life back in Elko, NV and had nowhere to go. She hitchhiked all the way to Reno and would have continued west, except that she was unexpectedly befriended by a girl who said she wanted to help. Indeed help had come in an unexpected package, but it was also how she’d gotten caught up in the car theft business.
Although she was always on the run from police, life for her was going pretty well. When she turned twenty, she was on her way to do a job when she accidentally ran into Mercury, who was looking to make a delivery to one of the local minor gods. She had initially been angry at his having thrown her off her game, then confused as to why a mail man was walking around in the middle of the night. Mercury liked her spunk and beauty so he humored her for a time and they talked. She’d run off in a hurry afterward when she realized she was going to be late to the rendezvous point so she started to leave when Mercury had wished her luck and given her a knowing look, which startled her.
It wasn’t more than a couple of days later that Mercury returned to see her and she found herself highly infatuated with him. They went to a bar and after a couple of drinks on her side she’d lost her inhibitions and they had a very long night back at her apartment. The next day she’d woken up and he was gone. She was a little hurt but remembered she had to get back to her usual life. It didn’t take long for her to realize that the night had disastrous results, however. She was pregnant and terrified. So, over the course of the nine months she planned, trying to figure out what to do with the child when it was born because she thought she’d be a horrible mother. Finally the moment of truth had come and on September 8, 1996 Zidane came into her world. But so did the police. Someone in the crew had made a careless mistake and gotten her involved and now she was a woman on the run. She agonized over what to do with her new baby boy, knowing that she couldn’t run with him and take care of him like he’d need, so several days later in the dead of night she made a house call to a man named Daniel Baku, one of the very people who had helped her when she first joined the crew. She begged him to take the boy from her and take care of him, then disappeared into the night, never to be seen again in Reno.
Zidane grew under Baku’s tutelage and it didn’t take long to figure out that Zidane had the makings of a master thief. He was adept at taking what he wanted at home, such as from Baku’s hidden candy stash and he was extremely fast as well. Needless to say, Zidane was a handful and half, as most Demi-god kids are. He also hung around one of the other orphans that lived with the group whose name was Zack Remington. He adopted Zidane as a little brother and took him under his wing even though he was seven years older than him. Zidane learned many things from him, including the best ways to hit on a girl. Zack was a shameless flirt and taught little Zidane to become a skirt-chaser, but he also imparted him with a sense of justice and a willingness to defend those who couldn’t defend themselves. It was that very thing that nearly got Zack killed.
A little after Zidane’s eighth birthday, Zidane and Zack were on a secret mission to steal the most beautiful flowers in Reno to give to Zack’s latest female conquest when a Laistrygonian intercepted them on the way. Sensing that Zidane had demi-god heritage, the giant tried to kill him so it could eat him. Zack couldn’t see through the mist so all he saw was a big thug trying to kill his little brother so he pulled his knife and tried to take the attention off of Zidane and yelled for him to run. Zidane panicked at the time and it resulted in Zack getting pummeled to the ground and badly injured. Angry, Zidane had thrown rocks at the giant and led him away from Zack on a goose chase, then lost him. He managed to get Zack home where Baku tended his injuries.
That night, Zidane received a dream from his father. The giant was looking all over the town for the demi-god who got away and was trying to get his buddies in on it. He was in grave danger. Mercury told him that the best way for him to survive and protect the people he lived with was to flee to the Wolf House and Camp Jupiter. He’d handed him a piece of paper in the dream but before Zidane could look, he’d woken up… to find he was still clutching the paper. It turned out to be a map to the wolf-house. He knew he had to leave as soon as possible, so he packed a bag of his belongings, pilfered some cash from Baku’s stash (which he felt bad about), wrote a long note to explain what had happened and a promise that he’d come back if it wasn’t too dangerous, then sadly called for a taxi. He shut the door behind him as he left, saying a silent goodbye to the only family he’d ever known.
It was an eventful ride to say the least, but the cab driver didn’t ask many questions and even discounted the fare for him when he left him near the wolf-house. Zidane sort of suspected his dad had something to do with it, but he didn’t take too much time to ponder that. Instead, he plucked up his courage and faced Lupa within. He stay for two months learning how to properly fight and use his speed and agility to his advantage and soon he made his journey to the camp, where he learned that most roman girls did not respond half as well to being flirtatious as the girls Zack chased, but it didn’t deter him, which probably earned him a number of enemies around camp. He also made his share of friends, too, though.
Memories of the war two years ago still affected him. He had been fourteen at the time, but he certainly wasn’t the youngest kid to take part. He spent most of his time zipping around and putting his prized imperial gold short-swords through monsters, but several times he tried to protect people from ambushes and had gotten scars from those injuries. After the last set of people he’d tried to saved, he’d been injured so badly that he had to be carried from the fighting area and tended by healers. That one wasn’t a memory he much liked to relive, but it was one that had improved his image at camp somewhat. Still, he had probably worn that part out when he recounted his bravery to any girl that would listen. Some things never change.[/blockquote]
