Appearance ;; Helena has the general attributes of all Hunters; the silvery aura about her, the magical bow, arrows, and hunting knives that just seem to appear when she has need of them, the athletic figure that comes from years of traveling with Lady Diana and the Hunters. Not all Hunters are identical, naturally, and that’s where some personal things come in. Helena was a deal older than most of the hunters when she took her oath, just about to turn 18, so in that aspect she’s certainly different than her sisters at arms. She has a tattoo, but unlike the markings on Demi-Gods at Camp Jupiter hers has nothing to do with parentage; quite the opposite really, considering she got it in defiance of her parents. The abstract markings start on her left collarbone and reach onto a bit of her neck.
While the Hunters usually dress alike, there are times when personal style can shine through. When she isn’t dressed like the rest of her group, Helena prefers simple jeans and a t-shirt or tank top, always something she could fight in. For shoes she tends to stick to some sort of trainers or boots, function over fashion. Even when she isn’t using her bow she usually has a shooting glove on the first three fingers of her right hand.
As a Hunter there is obviously no need for makeup, and her hair is usually just thrown into whatever style fits what she has to do for the day. Normally it’s just hanging down, occasionally with some wave to it, but at times she’ll put it up to keep it out of her way.
Personality ;; Helena has never been the girly-girl her family wanted her to be. When she was supposed to be inside learning to play piano or how to be a proper hostess she would look out the window, wishing she could be outside with her brothers. Running around in the woods, getting dirty, it all seemed so fun. She’s a rough-and-tumble type, she loves the thrill of hunting with Artemis and the rest of the Hunters. She’s grown fiercely loyal to them over the past ten years, though there wasn’t much of a choice in that. They’re her sisters, and she would do anything to help them and protect them. Given that, she’s also competitive with her fellow Hunters. It’s fun to spice things up every once in a while; things would get boring otherwise.
She holds a firm belief that women can do anything that men can do, and probably even more. While she doesn’t exactly enjoy the company of males she isn’t completely against it if it is absolutely necessary. Say, if life and death depended on it.
While she was growing up her family taught her to be polite, and that definitely remains. That being said, she’s always been headstrong. She’s not afraid to voice her opinion, but she also listens to Lady Diana and others in the Hunters who know more about the situation at hand or who may rank higher than her.
Family ;; The only family she recognizes are the Hunters, who she sees as sisters.
History ;; Helena comes from a well-off and traditional family, and that’s where most of her troubles started from an early age. Gender roles were very well defined, with women expected to be almost decorative; a girl’s time was best spent learning to play the piano or learning to sew, and above all else she was to be seen and not heard. Helena was always jealous of her brothers for getting to run about and have what she considered to be true fun.
When it came time to go to school, Helena was sent to an all-girls boarding school and she hoped things would be different there. Surely there would be some time for an elementary school girl to play in the dirt. Of course not. But there was certainly time to learn how to be a proper young lady when there wasn’t enough schoolwork to be done. How to stand up straight, how to curtsy properly. It was enough to drive her crazy. Things only continued like this through the years, though she did move to a different boarding school when it came time for high school. Lessons about learning how to stand up straight changed into lessons on how to be a good hostess, how to conduct oneself in society, basically how to be a good housewife and keep your mouth shut once you married a man your family deemed suitable, probably someone you went to university to meet. It was something from generations ago that Helena would have expected to be gone from the world if she hadn’t known better, and it was enough to make her sick.
Between the constant reminder of what sort of life she would end up living if she kept on like this, school and home reminded her plenty, Helena decided she’d had enough. It was during a break from school and her family had just hosted a party and introduced her to the son of a family friend who would be attending the same university as her the next year. She waited until everyone else had gone to bed, packed what clothes she could carry in a backpack, grabbed some leftover food and made a run for it. She didn’t know where she was going, and frankly she didn’t care. Making her way from her family’s home to London, Helena did whatever odd jobs she could and slept under whatever shelter she could find. It certainly wasn’t what she was used to, but the young woman found a certain thrill in the new lifestyle. Until she got to London.
She had been there before, but always with her family and always well funded. They had stayed at luxurious hotels. Now she was sleeping in whatever alleyway best held off the wind, hiding from police and above all else making sure that she didn’t run into anyone she knew or who would recognize her face. Her family had, assuming the worst, offered a substantial reward for her safe return. Just before her eighteenth birthday she had made her way to Hastings Country Park and was sleeping there. Just before dusk she stumbled upon a rather peculiar young woman, dressed as though she was ready to go hunting in the forest. Helena certainly wasn’t one to judge and wasn’t about to pass up some friendly conversation. As they talked, her backstory came up and she explained what was waiting for her if her family ever found her. What happened next was something she never would have imagined.
The young woman wasn’t young at all, in fact she was ancient. She revealed herself as Diana, or Artemis, goddess of the hunt; and she gave Helena a way out. The price? To turn her back on the company of men; something Helena was more than happy to do. She has traveled with Artemis for ten years since then. She helped bring down the Manticore and take the Di Angelo children to Camp Half-Blood, though she despises the place. During the battle of Manhattan she proudly followed Thalia into the fray, fighting beside her fellow Hunters and bringing down monsters with her bow and hunting knife.
Since then she has been continuing to travel with the group, more than happy to go wherever Lady Diana leads them. She’s well aware of the Greek and Roman camps, but knows that she can’t reveal anything about one to the other. [/blockquote]
