* - - julia. ophelia. porter. - - *
Name ;; Julia Ophelia Porter
Nickname(s) ;; Hippie, lots of stupid ones involving her middle name and rivers
Age ;; 18
Birthday ;; November 14
Gender ;; Female
Species ;; Demi-god
Immortal Parent ;; Venus
Years at Camp ;; 8
Celebrity Claim ;; Dianna Agron
Appearance ;; Just as any child of Venus, Julia is a very good-looking young woman. She tends to stay on the lighter side of makeup, never really feeling the need to cake it on to feel pretty. She uses just enough to frame her face and highlight her eyes, but never so much as to make it look like she actually has to try. Even without the makeup her looks have been enough to turn heads for years. Having lived in California her entire life, Julia has a sun-kissed glow about her.
Julia took gymnastics up until the time she was sent to the Wolf House, and had been involved in pee-wee cheerleading for a bit before being called away, leaving her with a gymnast's build. She continued with gymnastics training and pushed to teach herself more cheerleading moves as she grew older to maintain herself and give herself an edge in combat. She stands at about 5’6”, but often wears heels when she can to make up for her height. Julia isn’t afraid to get a little dirty, though she does have her limits.
When it comes to maintaining her appearance, Julia spares no expense. Her naturally straight hair is pampered by the best organic products money can buy, though the style varies quite a bit. The best skin moisturizers and lotions keep her skin soft, despite any damage possibly caused by her training. She has been getting manicures since her nails were long enough, and keeps up the tradition at the Legion by giving them to herself. Her choice of clothing follows in stride, tending to focus on what one would call preppy. Cardigans and khakis, skirts and dresses, whatever Julia decides to wear is sure to be immaculately clean.
Personality ;;
When the power of love overcomes the love of power…
Julia is a firm believer in love, no questions asked. Makes sense for a daughter of Venus. Unlike some of her siblings, and most of the Legion, Julia believes far more in love than she does in things like fighting. She’ll fight if she has to, but given the choice she would rather settle things peacefully. It’s something that nine years at the Legion hasn’t been able to stamp out of her. To her, its not all about being the strongest and most powerful around. There are far more important things than that.
Don't go wasting your emotions
Julia is a very emotional person. She throws her whole self into anything that sets off her emotions, which considering she also has the ability to Charmspeak can have dire consequences. She easily throws the charm on and wins people over to her side in an argument most of the time, or just gets people to do what she wants. She tries to not abuse the power, but often her emotions get the best of her.
I’m gonna harden my heart
Because Julia has such a firm belief in love, if you ever cross her be warned. She isn’t one to take a broken heart lightly; partly because of her belief in love and partly because she really hasn’t experienced being on the receiving end too often. She is the one to break things off, which she has done more than a few times. Despite the complete trust in true love, Julia is a heartbreaker and is not opposed to straight out use a guy to get what she wants, whether that is a physical object or to make someone jealous or just to have someone to be with for a while. Don’t get her wrong; she’s a hopeless romantic at heart, she just doesn’t see anything wrong with a few side journeys on the road to finding true love.
And as a sister and a friend
To Julia, love isn’t always romantic. It’s also the love that exists between family members and friends. That being said, she’s a fiercely loyal friend and cares for each of her siblings even if they don’t get along all of the time. She would do anything and everything for them. So if you mess with any of them, you’re messing with her. She believes there is good in everyone’s heart, because love is universal to her, so it’s easy to get close to her.
Powers ;; Well, all children of Venus are fluent in French, considering it is the language of love. With her mother being the goddess of love and beauty she also has an affinity for matchmaking and she is a natural expert with makeup and jewelry, fashion and the like. She also has a certain skill in love magic, or amokinesis, which is intensified by her next ability. Julia was born with the power of Charmspeak. Considering she is a very emotional person this can have some powerful consequences, as the strength of the charm depends in part on the speaker's emotional connection. She easily throws the charm on and wins people over to her side in an argument most of the time, or just gets people to do what she wants. She tries to not abuse the power, but often her emotions get the best of her. Of course, with years of practice she has gotten better at getting the best of people rather than her powers getting the best of her.
Family ;;
James Porter :: 40 :: Father :: Mortal
Nicole Porter :: 30 :: Step-Mother :: Mortal
Venus :: Mother :: Immortal Goddess
History ;; James Porter’s family has been a big name in the real estate market for generations, a family corporation based out of sunny California. James had just taken over the reigns from his father and was on a little vacation to the Caribbean when he had an… encounter with a beautiful young woman. She happened onto his yacht at a party he was throwing, and though he didn’t remember inviting her he certainly wasn’t going to ask her to leave. She was a very convincing romantic and the two shared a few nights, just enough to apparently conceive a child.
It came as a surprise to James when he found a child waiting for him in a crib nine months after the trip. A note explained everything, and he was overjoyed. He raised the child by himself for much of her life, giving her everything she wanted. She showed an interest in gymnastics at an early age and was enrolled in classes to see if it could help her work off some of the excess energy she had. Finally, just after Julia turned 7, James found love again in a young woman named Nicole. The two were married and Nicole joined the very happy family.
But things weren’t always sunshine and rainbows for the family. Weird things started happening to Julia. For one, on vacation to France she suddenly began speaking the language perfectly. She had been too young to be taking it at school, so her ability to have a perfect conversation with a native threw everyone for a loop. People started giving her gifts or doing things for her just because she made an offhanded comment that she liked something. As she approached her 10th birthday, monster appearances started getting more and more frequent. James knew he couldn’t keep his daughter safe by himself that she needed to go to the Wolf House that Venus had described to him in her letter.
Things looked quite bleak for Julia at the Wolf House. She wasn’t a fighter. Her father just hadn’t raised her like that. But they just kept pushing her. And pushing her. And finally Julia just couldn’t take it anymore. She fought back, her weapon of choice a dagger because it was small enough for her to be able to carry it and use her talents from gymnastics classes to throw opponents off. Not to mention that she often talked down opponents she knew she couldn’t beat by charming them into lowering their weapons. Once she was accepted into the Legion Julia made the journey to camp.
The militaristic view of the camp has never sat well with Julia, and she doesn’t think things will ever change with respect to that. That made it a little difficult to make friends at first, but Julia managed. She trained when she needed to, getting quite good with the dagger if things came down to it. She would still rather charm someone into giving up but understands that she has to do her duty to the Legion. And that was exactly what she did during the war. As much as she hated to fight, especially when she had to face some of her friends who had decided to fight for the other side, Julia did what she had to.
After the war Julia wished she could just give up fighting forever. Seeing all of that just reinforced her hippie attitude, even if it did break her heart. Watching people who were supposed to be friends and family attacking each other… She just couldn’t understand it. Two years later, Julia is still trying to show the world that love exists and can be more productive than a drive for power.
