this'll be a night you won't remember so make it one you won't forget
for the past seven days, ryan had been working, non stop. being a field medic combined fighting with healing, but ryan didn't mind. as long as he was helping people, he was content. tessa had prepared him well. hard work? yes. worth it? even more so. non weapon combat, combined with using plants as defensive weapons worked well in combination. no fighting, just defending until he could get himself and the patient away safely. his job was simple-ish enough. take injured, fallen soldiers, stabilize them, and then move them to the back lines where, hopefully, they'd receive prompt, proper treatment. he felt as if he had made the right choice. he'd be of more use healing people than being the one fighting saturn's forces. his remedies were strapped onto his belt. bandages, salves, and bits of ambrosia. anything needed to get the person somewhat stable.
the number of the people on the battlefield had been dwindling ever since day one. he started to see less and less people fighting. more and more people dragging themselves, stubbornly carrying on. they still had wounds, but, like the romans they were, they fought through the pain and continued on, fighting for their home. the more people he could save, the better. THe more people he could help... maybe it would make up for his inability to fight directly. he had just finished moving someone to the back lines. she'd be okay. blood loss and a bit of scarring from where the blade had pierced her arm, but that was it. people were mostly dropping from over exhaustion now. ryan was pretty sure he wasn't too far behind.
he made his way towards the front of the lines again, keeping an eye out for badly injured soldiers and/or collapsed ones. additionally, he was looking for someone specific: his sister, alexia. he hadn't remembered seeing her since the battle started. he held out hope that she was alive. maybe he had glanced her in passing, but everything was just going so fast... no. she was still out there. she was still alive. if she wasn't, he'd know. he would know...

A week... some people in other cases would think that a week is nothing, only seven days and that was it. for others seven days could be a lifetime. Well in the case of the roman demigods who lived in New Rome and Camp Jupiter they had been like a life time, it was something that it would be difficult to explain and to register on the history books of their University. It will be very difficult for people to organize all the events in their heads and hearts, on white cold paper would be easy, only statistics and names, but for the people... it would be another deep gash in their souls.
While those seven years, Alexandra Rosethorn had been fighting restlessly, although the correct definition would be she had been defending camp, because she wasn't fighting, she was only keeping all those attacking camp unable to attack them. Those who she had killed had been... accidently, and only when they had touched her skin when fighting. She had helped so many and from time to time she asked here or there to any medic she could if they had seen her brother, Ryan. He was her family and she only hoped he was fine.
He deserved to be in a peaceful place, taking care of his trees, not in a war, so maybe that was why she was there too and not in a neutral position as she thought she would be at the beginning. She was there to be sure that her brother would have a good place to live after that war. Suddenly she looked around and some vains grabbed the body of a traitor that was about to kill Ryan. "Ryan!! careful!!"
OOC: ryan no ;_; why do you have to be such an optimist?

does it almost feel like nothing's changed at all?
to have another war in their history books just three years after a second one was kinda depressing. Heck, ryan would vouch that camp was still in recovering mode from the last fight. he knew he still was, for a fact. then again, what child ever got over being in the middle of a war? it took years to rebuild and never to forget. a lot of the campers had even been here for both, fourth years of service and up. it must've been horrible. "welcome to the legion kids, you're just in time to witness a roman war", after that, ryan had truly realized his place in the infirmary. he was of much better use soothing, healing, and comforting, than fighting, and he knew that. however, that didn't mean that he didn't work just as hard as all the other legionaries during training.
ryan was still looking around for fallen campers when he heard his sister's voice. he automatically ducked and went to blast whatever was behind him with a vine, but he heard a thud. lexi had probably taken care of it. "lexi!" he said with a smile, after turning around to make sure there was nothing else. seeing nothing, he let relief flood through him. she was there and in the flesh. breathing got easier, despite the fact he had almost been killed, but hey, point was he hadn't been! plus, he found his sister! "good to see you. And thank you." defending each other's lives, typical roman siblings. seeing no one in need of assistance, ryan melded into the defend camp mode, making his way over to his sister. they were back together for now. every thing was going to be okay.
The war has been bloody and violent, no matter how many wars you live through, no matter how many times you had jumped in front of the eyes of death in a war... it always was, bloody and violent. for a roman, war was something normal, they were trained in life for that, but... not all Romans were the same even less for a roman that was daughter of Ceres, and granddaughter of Trivia. For Lexi, war was only another moment to ask once more... WHY?
"WHY?"... she thought as she was running over bodies and corpses of those who used to be her fellow campers, even those who were traitors. "Why do we have to fight?... why do we have to kill?!"... It was horrible for her to hurt others, it had always been the worst part of being roman, she hated to hurt others, it was... something that she always wanted to avoid. Then, why was she there in the middle of all that carnage?!...
"Ryan!! are you ok?" her brother, the reason was her brother and those who in little or much showed her love and friendship, for those she was there and would kill if it was unavoidable, only to keep them all safe. She smiled at her brother and sighed when she saw his sweet smile. "remember you must be more careful, a medic is always one of the first targets in a war." She kissed his cheek and smiled again.
"now... let's try to..." she was going to suggest to take ryan to his infirmary, where he would be safe, but then, the sound of screams filled the place. Lexi looked around and saw that a group of drakonas and hellhounds were attacking a group of very young campers. "They are going to kill them..." she wanted to help them, but... ryan wasn't a fighter, but was a very good defender. "we should help them, don't you think?" she smiled confidently, two children of Ceres would be capable to save the lives of those kids, right?
How many more lives? how many more letters? how many more people in the infirmary? how long before people finally understood that fighting wouldn't solve anything? it only caused more heart ache. people over on saturn's side? they had family, just like everyone in the legion. people. sure, the legion fought scores of monsters form saturn's side, but they also fought against other demigods. they could've been in the same cohort, like him and nick. they could've been friends once. friends, family, all torn apart by war and conflict. that was why ryan had decided to become a medic. he'd save anyone: regardless of their side. a person was a person. saving as many people as he possibly could was his ultimate goal. he sure as heck couldn't do it though fighting. so, instead, he chose his peaceful, helpful path. helpful in the way he could be useful: comforting and healing.
"'m fine.... jus' a bit tired... but, y'know. Cat naps here n'there. Miyuki's been a great help," he said, giving a smile at the thought of his cooking friend. they had loads of fun together. pacifists, bakers, cooks, "let's give people food and have them talk rather than fight". when all this was over, he'd have to find her so they could do something fun. maybe ddr, or they could cook things for the infirmary patients whenever ryan wasn't on call. or they could just sleep. ryan'd probably take 48 hours after this was over. "you doing alright?"
"I should probably get back to-" then his head turned. there were monsters attacking children. children. they should've have even been anywhere around here! ryan felt like he was responsible for preserving some innocent light in their eyes. he wanted to keep them smiling and laughing. with that thought in mind, he had made it his business to learn names, parentage (if they liked it), cohort (if they were in one), and what they liked. he carved out time to visit them if they landed in the infirmary. he just wanted them to know that someone was on their side. he just wanted to give them a friend. they didn't sign up for this life. they didn't sign up to die in a war. "yes! of course!" he nodded. "let's go!" he started over and a fast walk. they had plenty of other field medics. they should be able to handle the situation for a couple of minutes.
((So, since Lilith and I agreed to drop Lexi and Ryan, we decided to ICC out their deaths. LET THE FEELS ENSUE))

Like We're Gonna D I E Young
Ryan: *runs over towards where the kids are being attacked*
Lexi: *halts when she sees the number of monsters, then looked back at Ryan and the kids* Ryan!! keep them save! I'll try to delay the monsters! *she kind of planted her feet into the ground and vines started growing as a wall*
Ryan: But-- *looks as she takes on the monsters, but looks back over to the kids and knocks one of the hell hounds away from one of the kids*
Lexi: *sweat ran down her temples as the wall of vines with thorns got thicker and higher. Then she started moving her arms and hands as if she was hitting invisible things, but you could listen the growls behind the wall, her vines were attacking the monsters too* how are they?
Ryan: *has made a smaller wall and keeping the kids behind him; tending to one of the children who's been losing a lot of blood* Doing okay! You alright?
Lexi: been better... but I can handle this... *a side of her wall fell but some vines replaced the lost ones* do you think, they can run away? the kids I mean?
Ryan: Yes! *looks at one of them* Help her to the infirmary. *looks at the rest of them* Look, I know as a Roman they've told you to keep fighting. But sometimes it's better to run until your older. So run. *smiles at them* You'll be okay. *continues growing his wall between himself and the kids, watching as they all scamper*
Lexi: *smiles at how her brother acts to the kids, but got distracted for a second, a hole in the wall was opened and three thorns got her body, one on her left thigh, other in her stomach and the other on her right shoulder* AGHHH...
Ryan: *turns around* LEXI. *grows a vine outside the wall to try and close the hole and hit some of the hell hounds away*
Lexi: *smiled weakly at Ryan.* I'm fine... don't worry... *looks at the blood knowing she wasn't* Ryan, go with the kids... keep them... s-safe, I think I can... k-kill some of those monsters before they reach your w-wall.
Ryan: No you're not *goes to get some things from his medic pouch; looks at where the thorns got her, and knowing she'll probably pass out from blood loss before he can patch them up; smiles even though he's a few seconds from crying* Nope, I'm staying with you. *makes his vine start shooting thorns at the hounds*
Lexi: *smiles at him and then shook her head slowly* No... Ryan... please... one of us must check on those kids... you must...ch-check on your trees... watch over... y-your friends... just GO!! *she pushed him aside and let her blood soaked the ground, then vines grew and got some hounds and other monsters, some of them vanished due the venom, others due the injuries.*
Ryan: Lexi.... *and tears, hits the ground and watches the blood take over the ground; nope nope nope, too much blood loss* Lex... No... *stands up semi slowly and then looks at Lexi before starting to back up*
Lexi: *she was pale and slowly started to kneel on the ground as she culdn't keep her body up. vines tried to keep her standing, but it was almost her time* you all will die with me... I won't let you hurt them... no more...
Ryan: *my sister is dying and I'm going into shock, semi frozen there and then hears a sword from behind him and sees a mix of traitor demigods and harpies*
Lexi: Ryan... *looks at him and breathed deeply...* no... No…
Ryan: *turns around and smiles even though he's full on crying by now* Hi... hi guys. *he continues to try building up his wall and simultaneously trying to block their attack with his own vines*
Lexi: Ryan... Run... *she tries to get up but she's too weak to move*
Ryan: *his wall semi gets wrecked; starts having his vines spread poison ivy*
Lexi: *some of her vines start growing near him to protect him.*
Ryan: *someone throws a spear; Ryan tries to get a vine to knock it out of the way but the timing is slightly off since he's also trying to dodge someone's sword; it lodges into his stomach*
Lexi: Ryan... *tears rolling down her cheeks. Her vines grab Ryan's body to pull it closer to her*
Ryan: *as a medic: no don't take that spear out; as a regular person: crap get this out of me ow ow ow ow; body semi curls around his stomach and he starts coughing up blood; vines still semi under his control continue to hit at the harpies but starting to miss since his consciousness is going*
Lexi: Ryan... *breathes deeply and tries to reach his hand* Ryan... Brother... Would you... M-mind... Dying... With me? *has a plan to kill those harpies and demigods*
Ryan: *tries to take a deep breath* (quietly) No.... *tries to make his eyes open and weakly latches onto Lexi's hand*
Lexi: then... Let's make... Mom... Really... P...proud. I love you b...baby...brother. *smiles at him and as her heart stopped, the vines grew around them and like a gigantic hand made of vines, it closed its weird wooden fingers around harpies, demigods and the siblings. Smashing, stabbing, poisoning and vanishing the enemy.*
Ryan: *eyes flutter shut again* Love you too.... *his stomach wound and Lexi's poison make his heart stop; he gets encased in the vines and his spirit goes down into the underworld*
Lexi: *goes to the underworld holding her brother's hand*
