Days had passed since Saturn got to Camp Jupiter to attack them, 8 days passed since Remus Stone ordered the Legion to defend Rome and destroy the enemy's army. Many had already fallen in the name of Rome and the gods, but this time those gods weren't away, those gods weren't just a name to pray to in the time of need, Gods in that moment were present figures, they were in that moment their parents, not some long lost gods. Thing that Christopher Ashby thanked completely, for the first time he really felt proud of being son of the all mighty god of gods.
"Move! Johnson!! Watch out for those draconas!!" Chris yelled to one of the members of the first cohort, he was a good centurion, he was taking care of his cohort as he pushed them to give more of themselves in battle. They were the first cohort and he wasn't going to let the enemy defeat them. He looked around for Charlie, he had seen her crashing some shields and skulls like... well he wasn't sure anymore about the time, but not so long. "Julia! check the left flank! take Morrison with you!" He yelled at the girl and then he saw some monsters almost getting to the place of some young demigods.
"Not this time..." He breathed deeply and the sky crumbled, He lifted his arm with his long sword and then lowered it in a swing of strike, then a set of two lightnings hit the line of monsters and they vanished in seconds. Chris smirked at the sight and then looked around again, he slashed the throat of a traitor and then continued fighting.

Charlie was on the brink of exhaustion, but otherwise, she was unharmed. Well figuratively speaking. She had gotten rid of her helmet ages ago, some demi-god had thought to bash her brains out with a mace, leaving it crumpled and useless. It was a pity, it had been a well made helmet. She had grown accustomed to its worn leather straps and its beautiful and ornate designs. Charlie would just have to get another one made. But with that dented helmet came the gash that crossed her face. It reached from her hairline, down across her nose and over her cheek. Three scratches across her face like that and they were deep. They would scar to say the least. Her cohort was doing as expected, amazing. The training and time and effort that she and Chris had put in, well now it was all worth it. Charlie reached out with her shield, claws meeting metal as the harpies circling over head like buzzards. She snagged the shirt of one of her cohort members, a son of Mercury. “Hernandez, I want you to get Caulder and Addams here, we need melee archers or else those damned harpies are going to pick us off one by one!” She barked as she pushed him back, watching him quickly dash out of sight.
Charlie spun on her heel, slamming her shield into a traitors face. She knew this one, a boy from forth cohort. He was young, to say the least. He was out cold, but now wasn't the time to worry about morals. Well a good soldier always knew when to take a life. If it wasn't needed, the life would be spared. The bulkhead of thunder clouds gathered and Charlie couldn't help but smile. It looked like Chris was about to have some fun. Charlie charged towards the striking lightening to check in with her co-centurion. But when she saw a Drakon swoop down and start to attack Chris, Charlie wasn't thinking. She leapt as hard as she could towards the creatures back, slamming her sword against the sturdy hide till blood started to flow like a river. The beast gave quite a monstrous roar as it tried its hardest to shake her from its back. With a swing of her sword, Charlie severed the head before leaping down and landing at Chris's back. “On your six Ashby. I got your back.” She said with a grin.
Legionaries, traitors, civilians... the battle field was covered with their bodies and the scent of their blood, it was something that no one would have liked to see or smell. Thankfully they picked up the bodies each evening and they buried their bodies wihtout forgetting to place two coins over the eyes of the fallen ones. No matter what they had done, friend or foe, they deserved the chance to be judged and go on with it. Chris hated the idea of those who had no coins to pay the boat man... that would really be a tragedy, to stay in there for all eternity waiting for the money to pay, money that would never come.
After the crumble and the lightnings, Chris always got a second out of focus, it was a disadvantage that his power had, so in that second he was completely vulnerable. Thank the gods that kid from second Cohort., Nova, had made those shields for Centurions and Praetors. Chris was holding his shield up, covering his front, but his back was wide open and anyone could have taken his life in a wink. He hadn't seen the monster about to sent him to meet his anscestors, but another blessing was Charlie-Mack Jolly...
The moment he heard her voice, he got back to focus and smirked feeling her vital energy, the electricity running through her nerves, something his father taught him to do, he had said that everything had electricity in it, and he had been right. "Thank you Jolly! I hadn't seen that one!" Jolly already knew about his weak point at the moment of throwing lightnings, so he wasn't going to explain himself in the middle of the battle.
"How are things on the other side of the battle field?" He asked as he used the electricity in the air to cover his sword with it and then the strike with it would be higher. He moved and covered Charlie's back too, then slashed the head of another drakona, which rolled over the field several metters away from them. He could see O'Brian, the adult medic from second, picking up the body of a young kid who was part of the third cohort. Then the man vanished into a shadow.

Notes: YAY!!! finally they are together in the battlefield!
Charlie had nothing but respect for the son of Jupiter. Chris was a good soldier and an amazing leader. He was strong and a very capable warrior. His sword play was commendable and his spear work was truly something to marvel at. She felt comfortable around Chris. He was someone that she trusted and there was nothing like having someone you could trust unconditionally. Other then Remus and Josh, well there weren't many people she felt she could put her trust in. Felicity had been her best friend once, but the friendship gave way when she started dating Mors. She had thrown a fit, a temper tantrum really, but she wasn't about to give up happiness with Mors. The girl had gone crazy. It hurt her to know that someone who was her friend would flip out like someone who needed to be committed. It worried her. There was little that Charlie could do to help her but now, she had lost many friends over Saturn. She was quite tired of it. But Chris, well Charlie figured that eventually he'd be turned into a god and he'd live forever. It seemed that someone like Chris would make a good god. Not that their prior relationships had taken any part in the bias. But she felt it was true.
Charlie parried a blow to Chris's side, spinning around to put her back to his. "No problemo Ashby. I'm sure you'd do the same for me." Charlie shouted over the clanging of battle. The din was something that she had become accustomed to. Even in training, there was no sweeter sound then metal on shield. Some people liked to listen to rain, others liked the sound of the ocean, but for Charlie, comfort came from the sound of people bashing each others faces in. "Flank's being overtaken by harpies. Hernandez is getting Addams and Caulder to take care of them. They're the best Melee archers we've got in the cohort." Charlie shouted as she swung her arm overhead, cutting through a defense of a traitorous demi-god, turning her blade to knock the shield away. She gave a short stab into the boy's shoulder. She planted her foot into his chest as she pushed him away, allowing the grove of her sword to do the rest of the work, pulling the blade from his shoulder. HE wouldn't be able to use that shoulder for a good bit if he got it tended to in a timely manner.
"Hell hounds coming from my front, what have you got?" Charlie shouted. "And what's your count? Don't think I'm gonna let your score win!" Charlie had always made a mental game of how many kills and injuries she could get in a battle. Or a practice. She kept an on going score from past battles in her book in her office barracks. It had been a present from her father, a copy of "The Art of War" by Zun Tzu. Her daily total was 19 dead monsters and 10 injured demi-gods and three dead. Her arms were aching from swinging her sword, but she wasn't ready to relinquish the battle this year.
Having Charlie next to him at the very moment of need in the battle was, in Chris' eyes, a huge blessing from the gods. His father was granting him with a cloudy sky so full of electricity to charge him a life time! Which maybe in that war would be all of it. He looked at charlie and smiled at her. He still remembered the time he met the daughter of Mars, they had been kids back then. He used to be a very awful kid back then, always thinking that the world owed him something, and it had been Charlie who showed him different and taught him how to be humble... not a lot of it, but some of it at least.
After he realized how things should go, at least in the first cohort, he started working as a leader of the team, but her always looked for her advice or opinion, he highly trusted the daughter of Mars. soon he felt for her more than just a competitive frienship. something that he thought he would never feel, or better said he thought that feeling wasn't for him at all. So after some months they started dating. but it didn't last long, why? well they were more like siblings than lovers, and Chris thought it was the best. He could trust much more on himself in a battle if they were just best friends and allies.
Years had passed and still he believed so, he still trusted his life on her hands and he had never regreted that desision. she was right thinking that he would do the same for her, he totally would do the same for her, so he smirked at her with his usual confident smirk and then nodded at her as he slashed the back of a drakona that just missed a blow against him. then she informed him about Hernandez, Addams and Caulder's moves, he nodded knowing she was right. "That's good, I'm sure they'll finish them soon. I sent Seneca and Johnson to the left flank, they will try to stop the harpies there."
maybe it was crazy, but Julia Seneca, daughter of Discordia, could use her powers to make those creatures fight between each other and stop attacking the camp's forces. then she asked about his numbers and that made him laugh. "Well only with my sowrd? or do you want me to count also the ones I killed with the lightning?" He asked as he moved and stabbed a demigod on the thigh and the pushed him back. He was sure he hadn't cut the femoral artery, so he would live. He remembered and his numbers were, 10 dead monsters, 20 injured demigods and 2 dead ones, with his sowrd, But with his thunder, it had been other 12 dead monsters, 5 injured demigods and 1 dead one. "Come on, we can still push them back a bit more..." he smiled at her.
