Appearance ;;Skylar was a born beauty. Adorable as a child, and with looks to make a grown man run into a telephone pole as an adult. Rich dark red hair rolls past her shoulders, outlining the delicate curve of her neck as it tumbles part way down her back. She'll wear her hair straight, or curly with little to no preference to either. Smooth pale skin, with a hint of warmth from the summer sun, is blemished only with the scars of fighting. Under well arched eyebrows lay cloudy sea green eyes, with a hint of intensity that lays unlocked. Her lithe, shapely figure doesn't do her fighting skills justice. Well used muscles lie under the fat that lines her body, hiding years worth of special training with feminine curves. Thighs that could snap your neck, a small arm to wrap around your neck, tough elbows that strike with percussion. This Rose has her thorns.Personality ;;Perhaps you think you know what it's like to speak to a wall, someone without emotions. You haven't spoken to Skylar. She remembers what it's like to feel emotions, but now she doesn't deal with anything but their shadows. For the most part she is cool and calm to the point of aggravation. She has no emotion, no feeling about anything that you do, or anything that she does. This has been used to the advantage of many people. No guilt, no sadness, no joy.Powers ;;
In her mind there is a time that she had emotion, and if she wasn't completely lacking in the ability to feel, she would be sad at it's loss. She witnesses people with joy, sadness, pain, and love. This has made her wish to have the ability to feel. Wanting to feel again she goes after things that have a high possibility of causing a slight stir of her heart. Not for money. Not for justice. She will work for the ability to feel something.
When alone Skylar will practice fighting, sneaking, she'll sometimes startle people in her work building with a ruler across their throat. If someone sneaks up on her, she'll thank them for revealing faults in her abilities. Though she is hardly thankful, given she has little to no feelings.
After years of being around people she has grown a small amount of fondness for people. Minuscule to most but valuable to her. She's only more recently found that she had these tiny pin points of feelings though, because of something she had to do for one of her employers.Internal Heater : : As a relative of the sun Skylar never feels too hot or too cold. Though fire can burn her, she does not feel ill effects from natural elements. To include freezing waters, and the desert sun. Through touch she is able to partially affect someone else, in the same way you can give and receive warmth through hugs.
Dehydration : : Through the use of her ancestors power, Skylar is able to remove the water content in the form of dehydration and evaporation. This can cause an area to become less humid, the removal of some water from a lake, the withering of plants, or the immediate onset of Heat Stroke in a single living creature.
Blindness : : As Sol is the god of sight, Skylar is able to temporarily give and take it away for a single target. Living or inanimate eg. cat or camera.
Dissipate Storms : : Calling upon the sun, which is now driven by her relative Apollo, Skylar can dissipate clouds and small thunder storms.
Speed and Strength : : Though not on par with a relative of Mars or Mercury(at all), her strength and speed tends to out match those of normal humans and many godly decedents.
Family ;;Mother : : Titania Shaw Van Denend
Father : : Victor Hiro Van Denend
Great Grandfather (Mother's side) : : Sol
Adoptive Sister : : Evelyn “Nimbus” McCloud
History ;;Before the god of the sun faded he had his own children, demigods that lived along side Apollo's children in Camp Jupiter and new Rome. His presence wavered, and finally he disappeared completely. The powers of his children did not leave with him. He was the Titan god of the sun, and his mantel was passed on to Apollo. His children and unclaimed legacies still felt his power in their veins, though they were not taken to the Wolf House. Instead they fought on their own. Skylar is one such decedent. Her mother had no power of Sol, it seemed to have skipped a generation. Her grandfather died, unable to give her any advice on the ADHD and dyslexia that plagued her. Growing up she played game, and spoke of monsters. The mailman, a small yappy dog. Things her mother and father would simply laugh at and say how creative her imagination was.
She was attacked even before she hit puberty, a creature she didn't know as an Espousa. Disguised as a highschool girl, she was set to baby sit the young Skylar. Her parents were exasperated with her claims, convinced it was just her pleas to try and get them to not leave. “Just for a few hours sweet heart” they said. They pushed the eleven year old away. No one ever believed her. Not the yappy Pomeranian people say her kill. Not the boy she beat in the head with a rock. Monsters she tried to tell them. No one cared. No one believed. She always got in trouble. Had to go to a psychiatrist multiple times. One more mess up, her parents said, and they would wash their hands of her. Send her to an institute.
The creature watched with a wicked smirk as she ran up to her room and locked the door. Barred it shut with the books she couldn't read. Her ADHD never let her read more than a few pages before getting distracted, if she could push through the headache her dyslexia gave her. A crash of her window sent glass shards flying into her skin. She screamed, and the Espousa laughed. They fought, tearing her room apart. In the battle the creature screamed and thrashed as water evaporated from it's skin. The bookshelf fell on both of them, pushing Skylar forward into the sharp claws of her attacker. A sharp pain in her head, and darkness. When she woke up she heard the beeping of a machine. She was in the hospital. She was alive. Though it was the strangest feeling, the lack of feeling. No happiness, no angry, no fear. A nurse came in, so excited to see her awake. She was given a long claw, not broken but whole as if the creature was never attached in the first place. They asked where she got it. Why it was in her head. She told them the babysitter gave it to her. She never lied in her life, she always felt too bad, too guilty. Now? She felt nothing when she lied. She told it perfectly.
Everyone believed her now. She didn't give outrageous stories. She told them what they wanted to hear so they would leave her alone. Still her parents sent her to a psychologist. They said her lack of emotion was disturbing. They said they couldn't live with her anymore. By the time she was thirteen she was sent away to a military school for delinquent children.
It was little more than a prison for children. Some of the teachers tried to help, but others didn't seem to care. A school full of kids who'd do time in jail if they were older, funny enough there was a kind of hierarchy. New kid on bottom. She didn't start out a good fighter, she was beaten by the older students. Her things torn, thrown in the mud. Money was taken, food. They had fighting classes though, and she picked up fast. She didn't have all the bad habits other kids had from learning how to fight on their own, and she grew into her strength. Her speed. She found she was stronger than kids her own age, and faster than anyone. It took only a year before she was able to beat anyone who came looking for a fight. She wasn't at the top of the hierarchy, but with a bit more training and some ambition she could be.
Before the even graduated she enlisted in the military. She was able to get into the Marines as an E-3 because of her schooling. Of course she had to get her parents consent, which they hadn't visited her in the four years she was in that school so there was no reason for them to want anything to do with her now. She entered the service at seventeen.
For two years she was trained to be more deadly than before. She went to a special training school, learning everything faster than anyone before her. Some of the older people said she must be blessed by Mars, some claimed Athena. She knew them, her classes went over ancient history of Rome at least. They said it was necessary to know anything about the Middle Ages. Knights and Medieval customs where based heavily in what the Roman Empire had brought with them. That even today they felt the influence of that great nation.
At nineteen she met with a very special superior officer, at least someone who would become her superior officer. He seemed to have researched her background, and helped to inform her of her godly linage. He told her about the different types of monsters, and all the things she should have learned by going to camp. How to fight like a Roman, the real stories behind the myths, and everything else she had never thought about before. Not to this depth and extent at any rate. It was only two years later, before she was even fully trained as the Roman Soldier he wanted her to be, that a little girl came onto the scene. She was sweet and kind. Skylar tried to help teach her along with Avetis, though she knew nothing of Camp Jupiter she helped the girl in ways Avetis couldn't. She was a female, and there were simply things he couldn't teach her. She taught her all the fighting forms she learned in the Marines, more advanced than any training the Air Force gave, or as her old squad like to call it the Chair Force. The Marines had the longest Basic Training, and harshest minimums allowed in any of the physical fitness tests, while the Air Force only trained half as long. She never mentioned that difference to Avetis, he was a lot more hardened than most of the comfy chair bound airmen she'd met before.
Skylar learned to use not only the traditional gladius and shield, along with all the holes that could be exploited, but with every item Avetis had at his disposal. That was a long list. She trained with the small child, helping her train as well. Bandaging her up, and being a bit of the softer one when her adoptive father was harsh in his training. Though she had no emotions she didn't believe a child should be trained with weapons so soon. Perhaps gun safety, and blade safety, but not too much more. Though she had heard they put ten year olds into the Roman Legion, which she'd be appalled at if she had those emotions.
Time came to send the girl to the Camp, considering how Avetis painted it she hardly thought that was a good idea. Though it did seem the most strategic way. She only hoped a child would be able to keep their organization a secret. She was not the only one wondering that, and the government standing behind them order her to bring them Eve. She took the girl to a room provided, and used a certain set of skills to alter the girls mind. Make her physically hurt whenever she tried to betray them. The girl was only thirteen when she had to suffer though Skylar's reprogramming. The emotional pain struck a deep rift between them. One that actually made Skylar regret. Some times the look the girl would give her pained her heart. She was able to feel something, thanks to this organization. Thanks to Avetis. Though she never told him, and she had gotten Eve to never tell him as well. Evelyn couldn't tell anyone.
For the next six years she trained, and did some of the dirty jobs the government didn't want to do themselves. She'd even take vacation days from Avetis, since many of the jobs he didn't know about. She wasn't exactly a double agent, and would lie to them repeatedly about him if she felt she needed to.
