At heart, as with most gods, Vulcan is selfish. The difference is that he knows how self-centered and demanding he can be. There are things that he wants to do, and things he wants to make, and he will drop anyone and everyone to start on these projects. Sometimes it’s an actual project, sometimes it’s something else, or someone else. Gods ask him for great items every so often, but he does not always finish them in the time he should be able to. With a kind of procrastination complex, he’ll simply put it off. As with anything else he does, it’s in favor of whatever else he wants to make or do.
This knowledge only adds to his self-esteem issues, having been cast aside and told time and again he is worthless. He has made active attempts to change himself, which often causes him great anxiety and results in his reclusive nature becoming for front again. Though he shows a tough hide, and a straight face to every insult and slur directed at him, his mind reserves every word for later. Ammunition for it to use against himself.
When dealing with people his attitude becomes increasingly bad. Though he attempts to not insult people, he’s bad with words and the way he phrases things. As the situation gets worse, he will start to panic a little internally and his words may come out increasingly harsh. Certain words he will avoid using against anyone, because he feels there’s not a person in the world that deserves to be called that. Generally he tries to keep to the thought that if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all. Certain people, namely Mars and Juno, get on his bad side and he doesn’t always abide by his own rule.
As for his attitude towards women, he simply can't say no to one. Those big pretty eyes get him every time, though sometimes it might not always come off that way. He'll be quite, and possibly wander off instead of replying and sometimes they may think he doesn't meant to do anything for them at all. He will though. Let girls braid and put flowers in his hair, or beard. Paint on his fingernails. Sit and have a tea party. Make a new diamond necklace. Just don't ask him to have a casual conversation with you, that's something he doesn't know how to do.

Jupiter had chosen for the lovely Venus to be wed to him, which was not entirely ideal. She was beautiful and loving, but that made him nervous beyond all belief. He wasn't sure how to handle a goddess so perfect as Venus, and attempted to work on gifts for her to win some sort of approval. Working on things he found to be interesting little machines, and sometimes on a passing word from her on something she thought worthy of praise. In the end he spent too much time working on projects, and she found other ways to amuse herself. He'd never been in such a serious kind of relationship before, didn't know what he was supposed to do. To this day he's not entirely sure what to do to gain attention from her.
