Clare sighed at her image in the mirror. Felicity, her maid of honor and best friend, and Mika, her dear little sister, were out of the room getting the last touches for her dress, leaving her alone to her thoughts.
Today was the day. Today she would say I do in front of a good amount of the camp and become Mrs. Clare Ann Kyoto. Her reflection grinned giddily at her. She’d been waiting for this day… well, since she met him. Since that time he’d asked her to go out with him. What? So she was a dreamer. She believed in those fairy tale endings that were in all the movies and books she loved. Today was the day. Her fairy tale ending- no, beginning. Yes, this was going to be the beginning of something wonderful. Her whole life was ahead of her, with Jason. Not as friends (though friends they were), not as a dating couple, not as engaged, but as a married couple. A married couple. Mr. and Mrs. Kyoto. And the huge honeymoon he was planning: two weeks away from camp on a cruise to New Zealand. It was funny really, because that wasn’t even what she was most looking forward to, even though it did sound wonderful. Just being the two of them for two weeks with no training or paperwork. She hoped Mattie would be okay holding down the fort. Yeah, she would be. She was tough. Oh, and Remus being the only praetor for two weeks. Ah well. He’d be fine.
Mrs. Clare Kyoto. She couldn’t stop saying that in her head, over and over. Soon. She only had about thirty minutes tops left to be a Fontaine. Then she’d be with Jason. His wife. And they would serve the rest of their terms, then get a place together, maybe think about raising a family. All starting today. The anniversary of him asking her to date him. She remembered back to her first sight of him that night, Valentine’s Day. He was so handsome. Well, he was always. And he’s somehow known her favorite candy and got her some of that, and flowers too. He really was the sweetest. And now she was his. Or, you know, would be soon.
She took a deep breath and wiped at her eyes. Yes, it was good she had opted not to wear eye makeup. So far it was looking like this was going to be damp-eye occasion for her. That was okay though, right? It was only because she was happy. No, not happy. Ecstatic. In heaven. Living a dream. Today was the beginning of something beautiful.
