Emily is a highly unintimidating little thing. She stands a whopping 5’2” and is thin as a rail. Her complexion is fair and delicate and, even if she doesn’t have any curves yet to speak of and doesn’t touch make up beyond lip gloss, she usually comes across as, as feminine as a daughter of Venus, if not nearly as pretty as one of them. She dresses mostly in dark colors, usually shades of blue (in remembrance of her father, more on that later) and black. She stands out in a crowd, even for her shortness, a lot because of her hair. It reaches handbreadth below her shoulders in fluffy curls. That are deep blue. This is part of her upbringing. She was essentially a lab rat from the day she was picked out of the orphanage at age six, and some of these experiments have altered her appearance. Where her eyes used to be her father’s deep green, they are now warm brown. Her once brunette hair is now distinctly navy. This part is actually slightly different though, as it was bleached by the experiments and this genius little ten year old, sad of being made fun of for being the world’s youngest person with grey hair, she stole what she thought was more her original hair color, but alas, it would appear her reading skills were not that fine-tuned. At least she got the B right. Brown? Blue? What’s the big difference? Well, she accidentally dyed her grey locks blue and ended up falling in love with them and now does her best to keep it that way.
Personality ;;
Emily puts a great deal of emphasis on things being fair, thanks to her mother. This is also somehow flying in the face of her government upbringing usually, which means she’s not the favored child. Well, she knows better than to speak adversely in front of the higher ups. To her peers, she will put her foot down and tell them off. Those in betweens, like Audrey, well… she speaks with caution. She likes to see people get their just ends, with an even mix of good and bad. She takes pity on those who do not earn their punishment, that come upon it wrongly, but she is surrounded by people who dish out these ill punishments, and it troubles her below the surface. She regularly gives people, Mel especially, a hard time for their plots, thinking them too harsh. Though being surrounded by evil, well, some days she feels she much be that last drop of good. Other days… she gives in to it and makes up excuses as to why these actions don’t upset the balance of good and evil.
She hates her life though. She loves her family, yes, because they brought her up. Her only friends. She has no choice in the matter. It’s her late, real father she still looks to most. He was noble and fair and kind and in the eyes of his little girl, probably secretly royalty since in all the stories, the most wonderful people usually ended up royalty in the end. Audrey, she feels, is the only one who understands her. Audrey is only mean because she must be, so M sees it. She is truly a good person when allowed. Emily has this ambition of being just like Audrey. (for more, see History)
Powers ;;
FAIRNESS – Emily has a very in-tuned sense of fairness, which might seem too normal, but hers is… Well, to her best friend, Mel, probably annoying. She is all about fair game, even after her years in the government facility. She inherited this sense and no matter what she does (or what her testers do), she always thinks about justice. An eye for an eye. Though this has a flip side. Where she can believe in great vengeance, she also believes in mercy where it is called for. For instance, when she finds the one who ordered the ever-lasting punishment of Audrey, she will fillet them. If she runs across an innocent in the path, she will spare them.
Family ;;
Nemesis - mother
Hadrian Boerd - father (deceased)
Audrey Watkins - older sister figure
History ;;
Hadrian Boerd was a great a great lawyer in Chicago, IL when he met Nemesis. She hired him for a particularly tricky case that ended up not going to court in the end, but they still talked for a long time after and ended up dating too. One night and everything change. She disappeared and he moved on for nine months before she showed up again. Only this time she was toting a baby. She stayed only long enough to explain who she really was. He was dumbfounded, but it at least registered to him that he now had a daughter that he had to raise alone. Which was okay with him because he fell in love with the little squirmy thing immediately. She had his eyes, but her mother’s facial features, and, eventually, his natural brunette curls (though he kept his short to keep from curling). He loved her dearly and the feeling was mutual. He wanted to teach her to be fair to all, but come to find, she seemed to already have a knack for it. She shared her toys with the few friends she had, but wasn’t above yelling non-words at those who stole them. That was, only after her father had stopped her from punching them. They lived a good life together. Until…
When she was merely 6, some less than happy people dealing with his work abducted him and drove off in a stolen van. He was never seen again. Emily was put in a foster home as they searched, where she did little more than cry and hug the teddy bear she had brought from home. A year later, they found the maimed body two states away in a ditch and DNA proved it was him. He was sent home for a funeral. His now 7 year old daughter dressed in all black with blue ribbons in her curly hair and a blue ribbon tied on her teddy bear for the occasion. She sat in the front row where family went… alone. Her grandparents hated him for having a child out of wedlock, so they didn’t even bother coming, though to settle her heart, they told little Emily they lived very far and could not make it. Emily didn’t listen to anything the adults said. It didn’t make sense anyway. So she stared at the display in front of her. A framed photo of her father wearing a sharp navy suit, surrounded in ornate blue blooms, which had been his favorite color anyway. That image was in her head forever. As she sat there, she clutched the locket necklace he’d given her before he vanished. A picture of them both in a locket the shape of a heart. She loved it dearly and never went anywhere without it.
Unfortunately, her foster parents did not take her in fully after that, but they did happily give the usually-upset little thing to an agency that promised to give her a good home. Little did they know, by “good home”, they meant “government lab”. For four long years, she grew up in a cell in pain and unhappiness, being tested on a daily basis. She wears long sleeves most of the time to cover the light scars on her body from those years, which thankfully only really showed up all that well when she was suntanned, which was never, but she was self-conscious.
Then a new woman took over the testing procedures, going by the name Audrey Watkins. At first, 11-year-old Emily was terrified of her. Especially when she pulled out that big needle and aimed it at her shoulder. But then the strangest thing happened. The woman offered her a bandaid with a childhood favorite on it: Mickey Mouse. Emily was stunned as the woman carefully put the bandaid on her shoulder. Usually they just let them go and if it got an infection, then wear it off or get another shot. Little Emily immediately took to the new woman. It came to where when Audrey came to get her from her cell, Emily would actually come to the bars to greet her instead of hiding. Sure, the tests were bad, but Audrey usually saved a secret smile for her that made it that much better. Audrey was the big sister she’d never realized she’d wanted. It was also about then that she was introduced to the other three kids. Now she had a big family, and she was actually kind of happy. It distracted from the less fun things at least.
Then the base was invaded. Well, that’s how she saw it. She hadn’t known there were prisoners, so she saw it only as a vicious attack on her home. It wasn’t until later that she learned there were prisoners at all. But that didn’t do much, seeing as they’d taken Audrey. Because of this, the usually not-too-violent Emily took up the war cry to go to this camp and get her free and get her revenge. Mostly to get her free though. Her instincts told her this was right. They imprisoned her best [older] friend and she would get her back. Which brings her to where she is now, lying in wait in the belly of the whale. That is to say, New Rome, with the other teens that were with her at the base. Time is coming to act.
