Appearance ;;
Sophia was always picked on when she was little about being short (her growth spurt came late) so once she learned to alter her appearance, she keeps up an altered appearance regularly. If one saw her elementary school yearbook photos, they might recognize her, but it's doubtful. First of all, she was born with brown eyes. Not chocolate brown, as her father tried to call them. Mud brown. So, now they are hazel. She was born blonde, but by second grade, it was turning darker. So she made it real blond. Though when she got to camp, she made it red. Her hair is naturally straight as a board. So she curls it. Her skin she kept the same though, a creamy Caucasian look. Though she did add a beauty mark. She also tried to age herself up a bit as teenage years are nothing fun to her. She is actually 16, but has the appearance of mid twenties because she thinks that makes her look sophisticated. In her time, teens were supposed to be mini adults, so she's just taking it to the next level because she can. (More in History.)
Also, for those inquiring minds, THIS is what she actually looks like without any alterations.
Personality ;;
Sophia is an odd one. First of all, her appearance, as you read above, is a sticking point. She grew up with her father complaining about how gangly she was and how come she couldn’t be as pretty as her mother. Well, one could imagine how that was on a little girl, especially one who wasn’t entirely sure her mother existed as there was no (to a child) proof. She was angry at him for being mean, but at the same time, didn’t think herself worthy of being nice to. Because of this, Sophia struggles with image and believes if she can just be pretty enough, she can get by. She grew up incredibly shy around boys, though, so it was an odd mix. Given the circumstances of her childhood, only her father put emphasis on appearance, something neither of them could afford, but he wasn’t going to admit that. They lived on a little farm they shared with the rest of the family in Oklahoma. Sophia was surrounded by dirt and tornados and cows. She didn’t have a lot to look pretty for, but she still hated it thanks to her dad.
Well, that legacy stayed with her as she went through all kinds of crazy things and eventually made it to camp very late. She was sixteen when she arrived and – thanks to her father – very appearance obsessed. She had to be skinny, but not scrawny. She had to be tall, but not daunting. She had to have that pale skin so the rage when she was younger. But she had to look older, since no one wanted to be a teenager. Even if she was surrounded by teenagers.
Back on track, due to her time as a child on the farm, she is actually incredibly good with odd weapons such as pitchforks and hammers. Give her a kitchen knife and she can gut anything – or anyone. She looks pretty, but she can be dangerous. It was honestly the only way she got past Lupa. She doesn’t like to fight though.
Powers ;;
APPEARANCE SHIFT – As a child of Venus, Sophia can alter her appearance. As described in her appearance section, she does this radically on a 24/7 sort of timeframe. She is horribly insecure, so she hides in plain sight. She only sleeps in pitch dark because she cannot keep it up in her sleep and it is draining to do, so she drinks caffeine (mostly caffeinated tea) to make up for lost energy to appearance shifting.
CHARM SPEAK – A rare talent to persuade people to her side or any side she tells them to… just by talking. For her, it is difficult though and she must feel strongly about what she is persuading in order for it to work. For instance, if she casually wants someone to buy her a latte but isn’t really desperately thirsty, they will probably just look at her funny. If she is persuading a stunned child to get out of the way of a charging horse, though, her words could persuade a stone wall to move.
THRIFT CHICHE – Semi power, semi upbringing. Sophia has the ability – with a sewing machine and grit – to make something old and ratty into something glamorous and flattering. She does not buy new clothing. She buys cheap fabric and scrap and makes her clothing.

History ;;
Henry Vacker was a looker. He had it in him to be a model if he weren’t a homely little farm boy. He knew it too. This is what attracted Venus. They met on mutual ground of gorgeousness. To the point where Venus was willing to make love in a barn to this modern day Adonis. Then she left. He forgot her, unhappy, sure, but he had work to do and his little sister was getting married. They lived in Tornado Alley, aka Oklahoma. The cows needed to be seen to. The chickens too. And the pigs. And the grain. They were a booming farm. A young family as Hilda was marrying and the husband and his parents would be joining the team. Then the baby arrived. Henry’s parents were aghast. Henry was ashamed. He welcomed her though and raised her like his own, since apparently she was. Then disaster struck, not just the family, but the nation. The date was October 24, just 159 days after her birth, the world Sophia came into crashed. More to the point, the US Stock Market crashed. He gave her a hard time and all the grunt work. Meanwhile, Sophia became a cousin. Five times. Lots of farm help. Times were hard though. The Dust Bowl was in full swing. Nothing grew. Everything was consumed by dust. Tornados all the time. Soon the family gave up and boarded their wagon and left for the East and hope. There was not much hope.
The world dissolved into war when she turned ten. Germany invaded Poland. The Third Reich was in full power. Big names like Hitler and Mussolini threatened. At twelve, the US got involved due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, HI. Sophia could still remember scuttling under the town square fir tree decorated for Christmas with a dozen other, trying to find scraps that had fallen as those few children lucky enough to be employeed as newsboys shouted the fearful news that Hawaii was under attack by the Japanese. The Vacker and Hathaw families stayed together as best they could and rummaged and slept in alleys, but there wasn’t room for them in the cities. Her three male cousins got jobs and Sophia managed to get a seamstress job. This is where she learned how to repurpose things, even if they really were worn material into military parachutes. In the future, she would learn the reverse. Sophia had a friend at her work who was a second generation Japanese girl, a year younger than her. She didn’t come to work one day, so Sophia went looking only to find a lot of stern looks and the whispers of a work camp up north. Due to the association, her father, for once in his life, feared for her. He put her cousin in her job and took her out of the city as far as he could in an almost smuggling operation. The city of Las Vegas was barely cared about these days. People couldn’t afford it. Only the famous 1% populated it. He gave her a wad of cash and told her to go start advertising herself to earn the family some money. He knew she had no respect before society after her friendship with the Japanese girl. Might as well destroy it totally. She was 16. Prime time. He left her there. She almost killed herself in dismay before attempting a meal out of a dumpster. An attendant of the hotel whose dumpster it was, welcomed her in. Into the trap known as the Lotus Hotel and Casino. They knew her heritage easy. They had people adept at sniffing it out. Well, using the term people loosely. She flourished there. She had a solid meal every day. Heavens only knew how long until someone who looked an awful lot like her aunt came and hauled her out and told her to go to the Wolf House. Little did she know, it was 2016, and this was her mother, not her aunt. Her whole family was totally gone.
She went to the Wolf House and passed with sheer determination and a few tricks. The trip to camp was terrifying. Cars moved a lot faster, for one. A lot. And they came in strange colors too, not the standard black. A few were black, but they looked like they had a sheen of pig fat. This was how she felt as she stared at the entrance to camp from across the highway. Adrenaline was the only thing that got her to that gate. Then a thorough bath in the Tiber as she attempted to cross it. Then again, she’d saved a calf from an oncoming twister. A little turbulence meant little. Then the real challenge began. Finding her place in a camp that reminded her way too much of the war she used to read about in the papers. She tried to act cool and nonchalant. Which is probably how she met a certain Adam Jackson, whom she ended up rather fancying. Turns out it was mutual. So mutual he took her to meet his mother, who was nothing like any person Sophia had ever met before. No one she’d known growing up could afford hobbies. This woman made a living out of art. Her son used it as his hobby. Oh yeah, and he could fly with more ease than a P-51 Mustang.
