HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
But let's get more specific. Our site members are diverse. Let's learn from each other! Here's the challenge:
Tell us where you live What your area's background is What you celebrate How you celebrate it
I'll go first!
Hi, I am AB. I born and raised and still kickin here in Cincinnati, OH, USA We were explored and settled by Germans and Irish. We celebrate nondenominational Protestant Christmas! In my home, we bring the fake tree in and decorate it. Lots of lights, electric and candle. Fun little Santa on the table to lighten the mood, but nothing compaires to the delicately carved Nativity on the ledge looking down over the room we all gather to talk and relax together. Oh, and endless supplies of peppermint
You're turn!

Hello! I'm Dennie, from central Texas. I'm right outside of Austin, but 2 years of mandatory Texas history class has only taught me that I still need to use wikipedia to find out about my city's history. Remember the alamo mon amis.
I guess the closest thing to what we celebrate would be Christmas. I've probably got the least interesting holiday traditions here because I don't really live in too much of a holiday house so Christmas morning usually starts with me throwing a pillow at my brother for thinking it was a good idea to wake me up at 7 in the morning on a break. Other than that I'm usually watching some sort of Christmas movie from the 90's or eating HEB Candy Cane icecream and relishing in the fact I have to do absolutely nothing for two weeks but play Guild Wars and eat food. Our family isn't too big on Christmas so we've never had a Christmas dinner before, haha. I always buy gifts for everyone though. That part of the holiday seasons I love c:
Aaaand this turned out to be longer than I thought o-o" Sorry.
Heya, I'm charlie from North Carolina, I live in Fayetteville, which is in it's own little slice of hell. It's pretty diverse as the population goes, seeing as we're right next to a military base, so we have a long and rich history dating back to Marquis de LaFayette in the revolutionary war! We were mostly settled by Scottish and German immagrants, though we also have a larger Native American population. Our Sister city is in France!
As far as personal holiday traditions, for me, it actually begins in November with a trip to the Holly Day fair which is a huge crafts fair where it's the only place I can get Moravian Baked goods. Then after Thanksgiving (literally the day after) we do the Dicken's holiday down town where it's been transformed into a Victorian Christmas, there are carolers, we have the ghosts of christmas past, present and future following around Ebeneezer Scrooge. On the first day of Advent, usually the first weekend in December, we go to the Moravian Love Feast, which I have been going to for 27 years. We used to set out our shoes on the 20th for Pere Noel, Father Christmas, and get treats. Then of course the usual waking up early for christmas to open presents. Now that I'm a mom of two brilliant children, I get to play Santa. Since the town is so rich in culture and diversity, we used to learn about holiday traditions from all over the world. My grandparents on my moms side, it was their favorite time of the year, so Christmas day, they would have all of us over to make Chicken Paprikash and open presents. Now that my grandparents have passed, I spend most of Christmas eve with my husbands parents and Christmas day with my family. There are plenty of silly reindeer games to play and fun to be had. It's always a big time of the year for my family as "most" of the time it's the one time of the year we actually get along XD
