Chariot races used to be something that would get the legacy of Venus' heart pumping, usually with great concern for those participating, but now it was just another cover. A way to hide behind a smile, to pretend to be happy and normal. What else could she do? How many times had people told her to smile, that if you smiled you'd feel better. To be honest every time she forced her well rehearsed smile she felt worse. Her heart fell so far that she felt very little, if any, remorse for her choice on New Years eve. Tessa just felt the need to be close to someone, without actually being close to them. Something easily replaceable, because the people she loved needed to be pushed away. Acquaintances grew in number, people she'd spend time with but invest no emotion or love. It seemed that everyone she cared about either left her, or fell to an early grave. Even Lilith was dying, her heart was too weak. Perhaps if Tessa stayed away, perhaps she should move away, then Lilith might live longer. Better.
It was dangerous to live outside of New Rome, she had encountered a monster or two just on her way to and from college. It would be better though, or so she told herself. It was painful, it tore at her heart in strange new way, when she called her mother. Asking to have the money she had made from her career as a child in Hollywood. She had managed to get a scholarship for school, but if she wanted to live outside of New Rome she would need American currency. Walking around trying to find a home was increasingly difficult, and increasingly expensive. Apartments, condos, lofts, houses. She was looking through them all, trying to find something decent for rent. She didn't plan to live there forever, perhaps another twenty years? After that, she was certain she could find a discrete way to disappear.
Tessa saw her way towards the concessions, she should eat something. She had skipped the last two meals, filling the void with water and tea. The beautiful girl sighed, looking over the sign of deep fried and covered foods that she hardly considered edible.
