Romans couldn't fight on an empty stomach! So, before the call for training, one could find Kate with everyone else in the Mess Hall, munching on a sandwich with a side of grapes and cheese. The latter two were more just finger foods than her actual meal. Perhaps she should make some food later to bring to her father in New Rome... she hadn't visited in a while. Actually, the last time she went to visit, he wasn't even there. Bad timing, maybe. Half the time she didn't even know what to say to him. He missed her birthday a couple of times. Although it was both happy and sad for both of them; one twin would age and the other... well, the other never would. Kate often wondered if her mother and brother were waiting for her. Hopefully they had just moved on; playing the waiting game for too long could get dangerous. She knew that from watching her father. She wondered what her mother would have said. Probably something to the effect of "Roman up and move forward", but that was easier said than done. Her mother and father had been happy. There had been peace. There was no way that their children could get involved in an actual war or suffer. And yet...
While eating, the young woman started spinning one of her knives while looking at a map of Camp and New Rome. It was like spin the bottle, only with a knife. Wherever it landed was where she would start measuring. She had memorized distances so long ago through sheer will power and a lot of all nighters before the war. She needed to know how far she could go from any point. It could have been a matter of life and death. One time, it almost was. The war... so long ago. A distant memory. Never fading, but not so scary or nerve wracking anymore. Still, if someone told her that another one was coming, she'd have to prepare herself. The call to battle was not something just accustomed themselves to. Luckily, she had been improving her powers since then. They may have been in a time of peace, but her time at the Legion had taught her that they were never truly safe. A paranoid mindset to have, but better to be prepared for the worst. She could now teleport 1.2 miles. 1.35 if she really wanted to push it. Now, she needed to re-access all the different points she could take off from and end up. So, with a pen in one hand and her half eaten sandwich in another, the legacy started making measurements.
