Marie sat up late at night thinking. Tomorrow they would "die". Tomorrow they became gods. Not just any gods, but the king and queen and Aiden, the prince. Then an idea struck! She got carefully out of bed with a smile at her husband, left their bedroom, peaked into sleeping Aiden's room, then headed for her office. There she grabbed a piece of parchment paper and a pen and got to work. She wrote a nice, long letter for her dear husband, the last thread of a mortal life. She sealed it and wrote "Christopher Ashby" and drew an elegant heart on the envelope. Then below she wrote the date, one year from tomorrow. She didn't know how she would keep the letter in tomorrow's transition, but she would find a way. She smiled and set it on her desk, then went back to bed, cuddling up next to Chris and closing her eyes. She listened to his breathing until she fell asleep again.

THE LETTER:

My dearest Chris,

It’s our anniversary!I’m writing this the day before our immortalization, if that’s what it’s called. Special treat from the past for you to look at when the time comes again in a year. I wonder how things are going when you read this. I hope we are good royalty. I bet you are a good king. You have that manner about you that would make you really good at it. I just hope I’m a good queen. I’ve never ruled more than the dinner table! Though as long as you are there, I know I’ll do fine. I love you so much. And Aiden will be with us, so how can we go wrong! I’m nervous of tomorrow though. I know by the time you read this, that will all be a funny memory, but when it’s a scary future? Not as fun. It’s been hard to say goodbye without actually being able to say goodbye. I like how you talk of how we will have a new, bigger family. What a thing to count the gods as family! Does being queen mean I’m the mother-figure of all of them!? Oh wow! Not sure I’m ready for that! I hope by the time you are reading this, we have both settled into our roles and are all three very happy. That is my wish for this family, as it always has been and always will be.
