Appearance ;;
Unlike the majority of the Roman boys around Camp, Nate has a noticeably smaller figure. He has enough strength in him that he can fight decently, but he just looks, well, scrawny. He doesn't appear to have much muscle on him, aside from his arms which are noticeably strong as a result of extensive archery practice. However while strength typically isn't on his side, Nate uses his quick speed and his nimble flexibility to his advantage. He also has a relatively tall height, standing at a height of six foot.
His hair, undoubtedly is an uncombed mess. He doesn't bother with styling it, or sometimes even brushing it, so it tends to stick out in any direction, looking whatever way it feels like for that day. It is cut at a short length, and it's a natural deep brown color. The color actually matchs quite nicely with his brown eyes which some people have claimed remind them of a cute little puppy dog. His smile is slightly crooked and boyish, however, he believes the boyishness gives him somewhat of an adorable appeal.
As for apparel, Nate isn't really specific as to what he wears. No doubt he prefers jeans, but in terms of a shirt, he varies between typical t-shirts and nicer, long-sleeved shirts. Despite the fact that the Camp's purple shirts are considered uniforms, Nate generally avoids wearing them because he hates the idea of uniforms in general. And usually he can get away with not wearing it by either distracting people who catch him not wearing it, or by playing his Augur card and claiming 'the Augur does what the Augur wants'. In terms of shoes, sneakers are always good. Or barefeet, that was always fine with him too.
Personality ;;
goofy&&humorous
If it isn't enough being scrawny and being the Augur that make him different, Nate also has a side of his personality which sticks out amongst the Romans. He's a very silly guy, who just loves to mess around, whether it's entertaining to other people or not. Which, in Camp Jupiter, where there are plenty of grumps, most don't appreciate his humor. That still doesn't stop him from goofing around and cracking jokes. Admittedly he even makes some jokes in regards to prophecies, though never the serious ones. Simply a comment every once in a while to a younger camper warning them of imminent danger, which he then lets stew for a day. Don't worry though, he doesn't leave them hanging too long before he lets them in on the joke. Abusing his Augur powers, maybe. But the end result is damn funny.
witty&&sarcastic
Despite the fact that he has the humor of a goofball sometimes, he has another side to him which is also very sarcastic and snarky. He makes plenty of biting comments, that, depending on who they're directed at, can be either teasing or meant to be offensive. His remarks are always rather witty and clever as well. It's a skill-or so he says-that he has mastered. Seeing as he wasn't as much of a physically confrontational guy, he was always more capable of fighting with his words, by simply making his opponent sound like a complete idiot.
friendly
From the previous descriptions of Nate's personality, one may or may not find this surprising. Yes he can be a little snarky and he plays some rude jokes, but in actuality he really is a genuinely good guy. He is a good friend to have around, because he can be really sweet and easy to get along with. Well depending on if you're willing to try and get along with him. He's a nice, sociable guy, if people can appreciate his humor and the fact that he's not a stereotypical Roman.

History ;;
Born in Seattle, Washington, Nathan James Holloway was the twin of Jensen Holloway and the offspring of the god Apollo and the young mortal Doctor Selena Holloway. Admittedly his parents' relationship was brief-as are most relationships that involve the god of the sun-but it was still a significant relationship. It was Selena's medical degree that caught Apollo's eye, and frankly it was nothing else. She was a friendly enough woman, but she wasn't overly affectionate and her days were swamped with back-to-back surgeries. When she first learned of the pregnancy, she did lean heavily towards the idea of abortion. Apollo had already disappeared back into thin air, and she was an ambitious career woman, so she really didn't want to have to deal with the burden-as she called it-of having children. However, as a doctor she was committed to saving lives and this would be ending two before they even began. So she grudgingly decided to keep the twins.
When the two were born, no one could be quite certain what thoughts were running through Selena's head. She had picked out names for the both of them, and admittedly after carrying them for nine months she was a little more attached. Originally she had intended to adopt them both out, but something was changed in her mind. So as she was released from the hospital, and after two weeks of recovery time, Selena went on a road trip down to Salem, Oregon where her younger, slightly troubled brother Dexter lived. There, she had a very private conversation with him during which he agreed to take one of her boys. So with her only explanation for keeping one as the lazy 'two was too much work', she left, leaving Nathan behind with his unstable uncle.
For the first five years of his young life, things were only ever okay with Nate and Dexter. While Dexter was capable of providing Nate with all of the essentials and any toy he desired, he wasn't exactly capable of providing a caring environment. The most love Nate really received was from their one-year old malamute, and from any friends that he tried to make when he was first sent to school. But once the five year mark hit and Dexter's temper started to flair as a result of a demotion at work and also of various psychological problems, Nate would have been ecstatic to take back those five years of neglect. Because the problem became that he was now getting attention, but not the good kind. Rather the uncle's-boot-to-the-ribs kind.
At age seven Nate nearly did mention the abuse to one of his teachers, but he chickened out because at the time he believed that somehow this must have been his fault. He must have done something to deserve it. At age nine, however, his salvation was presented. His uncle, on a good night for him, revealed that he would be sending him to see 'Lupa' ("so that i wouldn't have to deal with the little brat anymore"-were basically his words). Nate had grown up knowing that his father was Apollo so to be honest, he was rather excited about it. He displayed exceptional talents in the art of archery and music (though that was hardly relevant to Lupa), and it couldn't be denied that there was something special about the little boy. Something unusual even for a child of a god. Based upon that, Nate was allowed into Camp Jupiter where he began intense training with the Romans as a member of the second cohort. And while he did involve himself in training, he also branched out trying some of the more entertaining activities and he incorporated a lot of socializing into his life there. He was a popular boy with the more friendly, or at least less aggressive campers, and especially with another camper, Maddison Petroski. The two were an unusual pair but they bonded through their unfortunate lives.
During his time there, however, people started to notice how strange he could be. He would mumble on about something or another that would then happen later, and he would mutter words that would sometimes almost sound like prophecies. At age fourteen, the camp was certain that he fit into the role of the Camp's Augur. Not one to argue, especially since Nate felt that it was right and it was his place and his place alone, Nate took to the usual Augur habits...You know, slashing teddy bears open.
The next three years passed with little incident, though anyone who knew the boy well enough could tell that something was picking at his mind. He spent a lot of time skipping Camp activities to go into town to research something special to him at the library. Nathan had never known his mother, and his uncle had always refused to talk of her. After all, they didn't do much talking in the first place. Nathan made up all sorts of scenarios as to why she wasn't with him as a child, and all of them were based around the idea that it couldn't have been her fault.
So after one lucky break in his research of his mother, Nathan found her address and managed to make his way up to Seattle by taking bus after bus. When he arrived at her doorstep, it was clear that she was surprised and caught off-guard. The two talked for an extended time, during which he learned that no, she hadn't been forced to give him up. She had chosen to give him up. That realization was only made worse by the fact that she had given him up and not his twin brother. It got him to wondering if that meant that maybe he would just never be good enough. Disgruntled, and admittedly hurt and tearful, Nate left as quickly as he could manage. He ran into his supposed brother while taking his leave, but when asked who he was, he simply replied 'no one important'.
The only beneficial thing to come out of that visit was the trust fund which Selena set up for Nathan. And while it would allow the boy to buy any material things, it was only bribery. An attempt at an apology that would never be good enough.
Nate was noticeably different after his return to Camp, though he did try and keep up with his old personality. It took him nearly three weeks before he actually started acting normal again without faking it.
Yet another two years after that incident, the Battle of Orythus occured. Nate had of course seen a storm on the horizon, being the one who had delivered the prophecy regarding it obviously. He did fight in the war, acting as both an archer and a healer for the injured. Recently he hasn't discovered any big new prophecies, but admittedly he does have a bad feeling about that.
